Try buying a Hasselblad camera, then realising you need to buy a lens.

Must. Resist.

That's a hell of a lot of speaker for the money!
Are these magnetically shielded or doesn't it matter anymore with led TV's
Too big for my living room sadly

Still need a new sub for my av unit if anyone has spotted a decently priced one?

Manual says they're not shielded, but a quick Google reveals it does not affect LCD screens anyway.

From what I understood pre-flat screen tellies i.e. Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT) needed shielded speakers because the speaker magnets had an effect on the path of the electrons which then caused the distortion at the edges of the screen. The electron path was guided by electromagnets in the telly itself so the speaker magnets would then interfere with them. That was why 5.1 setup centre-speakers were always shielded because they were always placed directly below the screen so as to place the voice channel in the optimum position. Since flat screens don't employ magnetically guided electron beams this is no longer an issue.

You can buy speakers with built-in amplifiers. These are relatively cheap for what you get. DAC/Amplifiers are generally a personal preference type thing in which qualities you like. It's a downward slope wallet ride from here onwards.

Denon's website says the M40 outputs 30w per channel. Recommended amplifier in the manual says 25w to 150w.

Yes the whole front panel is a plain glossy black. The cabinets themselves have a wood effect.

These are designed for people who already have that kit
How would these pair with Denon AVRX540BT amp?
Edited by: "mdentz" 24th Mar
Are these really what they r cracked up to be
Would they be an improvement on monitor audio 280 stand mounts
Matching bookshelves are also only £99 richersounds.com/wha…ry2

just a shame the matching 220c Centre isn't available at a decent price anywhere. I can't find it for less than £240
Very tempted to replace by old Tannoy Mercury custom set but need a good centre to go with them.

I don't know, but they were happy enough to reserve a pair and demo them on a choice of amp for me before buying. Last speakers I bought were Mission m71i stand mount about 10 years ago which I paid £60 for and I've now demoted to rears, so I'm definitely no AV junkie.

They won’t demo them for me but they waived the restocking refund charge

No proper HiFi speakers have amplifiers built in. This price is bargain basement for a pair of floorstanders. To drop your toes into serious HiFi, you're looking at about 5K in the least, split equally between the speakers, amp, CD player and interconnects.

Here are some decent HiFi speakers which will blow these out of the water. But then they're 11k.

If you think that's expensive, have a look at this rarefied list which starts at 300k. Some folks wouldn't bat an eyelid at throwing 18k on a pair of 1m interconnects.

Having said that, these Diamonds are not bad for the price.

Heated.

I have a pair of these which I can plug my phone in and they sound proper Hi-fi to my ears. Interesting there are no towers with built in amplifiers. What goes into all the space inside?

Damping material mainly. Nothing at all wrong with active speakers.

Good speaker for anyone wanting to enter the HiFi world.
Personally, never liked to brand or the sound from them but that's because I've spoilt listening to other setups & owning.

Of course you do get active speakers, yours are a pretty good compromise but amplifier design is an art and not many audiophiles will give up their dedicated amp + speaker combo for a pair of actives.
There's a high degree of flexibility in having the separate components, you can mix and match your speakers carefully to the amp and of course, for high end audio there are few premium active speaker solutions north of £1k.

It's a peculiar thing when you think about it (I'm not disagreeing, by the way), but studio monitors tend to be active, presumably to avoid the discrepancies that mixing and matching speakers and amps can create. Logically then, one would think that the best thing to listen to music on is the same monitors it was mastered on in the first place, as that is how the music was intended to sound, but it's probably very seldom if ever that this is the case.

Except the price. These are exactly the same speakers as the Dali 5 which sell at around 400 while these are 800.
So u r paying an extra 400 for the amp for exactly the same speaker, in fact the amp is only in the left speaker and the right speaker that u get is the zensor 5 which is a 400 quid speaker.
The 400 difference will buy u a very decent amp. It will also allow u the choice of amp warm vs bright sound and so on and u can upgrade the amp in future or the speaker much cheaper as u can do one or the other rather than having to get rid of 800 speaker just to upgrade the amp for example and finally just like washer dryers a separate washing machine and separate tumble dryer is always better
