Quality upgrade for a tired mini hifi - just remember garbage in garbage out - even the best speakers in the world won't do much for your teknika micro ipod dock.
Heat added. Don't know why the Denon's have got any heat, must just be people who see the brand and think they must be good.

Very true, take a look at their clearance micro systems and you could have an Onkyo micro with these speakers which would sounds as good as any out of the box system this side of £500 notes

Noooooo. Don't say the O word.
I was always under the assumption that Wharfedale was an Argos-exclusive brand?
These have been this price (or less) for weeks if not months and were £10 cheaper last week ,great speakers at a great price but not a deal as widely avalible at this price
These have been £49.99 for a long long time....no not a deal
Anyway I have a set (I bought them last year for the £49.99) as my rear surrounds in 7.1 and they're decent

I nearly bought a pair of these when they were £39 last week. They are very good speakers for the money.
I bought some 2nd hand Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s for my setup and I must say the sound is fantastic and about as good as it gets for a budget to mid speaker. Little bit of chatter over on WhatHifi suggesting that its worth paying abit more for the 9.1 if you can budget it. Never the less, at £50 your not gonna far wrong with these!

The name was bought a while ago and some cheap crap has been going around carrying the wharfedale name. I fell for it and bought a cheap TV. Went back the following day as it was awful. The speakers are still wharfedale of old I think and are a quality product.

Unknown Brand? They have been highly rated for years and also have won many of the what hifi awards for AV receivers over the last 10 years.

Exactly.
Decent price for speakers that are what... 30 years old and still a decent bit of kit. Personally though I would go for the 9.1's for about £50 more over on Superfi but still heat added for the price, even though they've been this price for a while

I ended up buying the 9.1's for £86 instead of the 9.0's also added a SW150 sub woofer.

I have them ebayed years ago around £90 they have very very tasty sound. says shelf speakers but can handle havey movies audio easily.
This is a price increase! They were £39.95 for a good while....not voted.

There lies the problem with selling the brand name..it confuses the speaker manufacturer with cheap chinese OEM goods that Argos have slapped their brand names on....think of it like Sports Direct and their Karrimor Shoes not being the same quality as the true Karrimor Shoes sold from proper outdoor leisure places, although thankfully Argos do not sell cheap speakers that are "Wharfedale" branded thankfully.

The brand name has been licensed to Argos for the manufacture of electronics products. All Wharfedale-branded speakers are still made by the original firm. (As cut and pasted from wikipedia)

Yeah, along with Sony, Dyson and Apple. ;-)
Sorry to pee on the parade but these were £39.99 last weekend I'm pretty sure (I was trying to convince someone to buy them for his side speakers instead of spending some insane amount on a new surround system)

What a load of sh1te, do you really believe there are 2 types of Karrimor shoes, 1 type made for Sports Direct and another for 'proper outdoor leisure places'? Do you believe that the Wharfedale speakers sold by argos are from a different factory than the ones sold by hi-fi dealers ? Do you believe in Father Christmas?
PS I sill have these speakers from a micro system I bought many moons ago and I'm sure they cost over £100 at the time. And yes they were and still are pretty good (I'm sure they were What Hi Fi recommended too)
Wharfedales will be the same everywhere if they are the same model. However they deffo are not an Argos own brand make!

Why is this hot? the £39 offer from last week was a deal, this one is just normal price. This site makes no sense
I would go for some Microlab "solo" series instead for a little more

Actually, yes. Shows how little you know....Sports Direct have always sold inferior Karrimor branded OEM shoes, Wharfedale have always had British designed speakers and have sold their name to be used by Argos for OEM Chinese goods....if you don't believe me do google search.

Show me a link of any Wharfedale speakers that are sold at Argos that are for sale from Hi-Fi Dealers!

Beats me, a price increase and it gets lightning hot.
suppose it depends on the people on this site , may be not savvi in the world of home cinema and hifi , they see a few reviews and assume a bargain has been found....

Yes it's strange, this deal is hotter than when they were at £39

check you facts before ploughing in, there are two seperate karrimor brands, one lot make crap for chav direct, one lot maintains the original companies quality.
Wharfedale make quality speakers themselves, and allow some third rate hi fi manufacturer to stick the badge where 'Matsui' & other 'store exclusive' junk names go.

argos don't sell wharfedale speakers, they sell the wharfedale badged generic radios/tv's/etc

Very true. I had the CR505 (again What Hi Fi recommended) - not perfect but even at ~ £250 inc Wharfdale 9's they still were a decent deal. At £150 a CR525 at 9.0s would be amazing value
