Anyone got one of these?
Does the DVD load in the side of the main screen and the other screen is a slave?
Seems like a good deal to me for 8" screens. Just resevrved one at my local argos.

Welcome to HUKD ]thetonester.

Love the deal.....hate the new look site

Do you have to mount these in a car or can they stand alone?

Good price for two portable 8" screens!

is the picture quality any good?
i know that the venturer ones are :!:

These look like a really good price. I cant find much info on them, it sounds like the dvd player might be built into one of the screens then you link that screen to the other one ?

If nothing else these screens would be really cheap to adapt for a kitchen bathroom etc...

I dont know why they have messed with the site. Its a backwards step from the old design plus it keeps falling over now and when it does workj its running really slow. Not a good idea

As there is no info on the WWW I rang the number below - support for wharfedale products. - I was told it does not play rewritable DVDs nor any Xvid, Divx, Camcorder video (I assume AVI etc) - I hope that helps

I ordered this 7" one
unbeatablegadgets.co.uk/sho…185
via a thread on here a couple of weeks ago (it has yet to arrive).
Any ideas how they compare, as I don't know whether to try to cancel my order and get the Argos one instead for £8 more. Any advice appreciated

good find, I just ordered different DVD set last night - so I thought I missed a great deal - however these do not play DVIX movies... so I'm still happy with my other purchase.
Just to note - Homebase & Argos are the same company so the deal will be the same at each... just that Homebase often have 10% off weekend deals, so if there is one of those coming up... you can grab a better bargin.
Oh, hate the new site.... the navigation is cleaver but the site is unsightly, maybe the CSS are not working in my browser.. and it seems very slow.....

have got one of these and its perfectly fine in the car - picture quality is ok colour not brilliant but then what do you expect!

only the main unit (the fornt of which flips down to load dvd) can stand on its own (built in stand thing at bottom) and also has a battery with it that clips to the back of it so can run without mains.

sound isnt loud unless you use both screens ( also argos were selling a wharfedale 7" additional screen in the cleatrance bit which i also got so now i have three screens all connected!) and also you cant control volume via remote. Other than that spot on for this klind of money.

@Noel20vt - Is it fussy about DVD-R's? (movie backups)

...not voting hot/cold etc nor adding rep...this is a good deal...however...most companies are reducing these types of unit as it's been proven these are very unsafe in a collision...obvious really...as not 'hard-mounted' become 'missiles' effectively...the consequences don't bear thinking about whatever the price...personally...i'd steer well clear and get the kids to play i-spy / spotting number plate etc etc etc type games...and save the dvd's till reach home etc...if u really must have in-car dvds to keep up with the joneses etc...save up...wait...opt for an in dash motorised screen version or get these professionally headrest inbuit or roof mounted etc instead

That's an interesting comment, and gives a different slant on them - I was about to get this, but will think twice now.

As a side issue, dash-mounted ones don't work when the cars' moving as a rule.

If it doesn't play dvdr movies I don't want it - no way I'd take my originals and leave in the car - same as my cd's leave the original at home just in case somebody tries to nick stuff from the car.

nice item

Dash mount ones work perfectly when he cars moving, admittedly some dont but thats because they are wired into the handbrake, easy solution is not to connect to handbrake, they only do it so the drivers not watching it (which is a v good reason) :santa:

I can appreciate that (especially if not fitted properly) that these could be just as dangerous as any other loose item in the cabin of a vehicle in an accident - however certainly with these players they have a dual sysytem - one is a toggle tie (bit like on the bottom of an outdoors jacket for instance) that is permanantly fixed - the other is a velcro system that goes round the back of the headrest - the latter i could imagine coming off in an accident but i think it extremely unlikely that the toggle tie would snap (which is what it would have to do in order for the screen to come loose). plus the units themselves are actually very light.

for those still unsure i know maplins do a hard fixing kit for screens and am sure there are others available. obvisouly not as good as the other permanent fixing options, but then they arent anywhere near as expensive!

hope that helps people make an informed decision, of course they should satisfy themsleves that they are 100% secure! i know I have.

So is it worth the purchase???????????

Its an interesting point on the safety issue.

Picked one up yesterday.

Seems to be okay. Useful inclusion is the battery so that you can use it away from car/mains. Plays DVD-R though at a noiser level than a DVD (seems to have a bit of trouble tracking). Bag is useful and you can get all the extras into it (2 screens, 2 headphones, remote, battery, composite cable, mains and car adaptor, two mounting straps).

Can be made multiregion by:
Powering up
Open the tray
Using the remote press 3,5,9,7
A menu appears.
You should already be on 'regions' so use the right arrow to move into the column of region values and use the down arrow to change it to 9
then press enter/ok
Press menu to exit

Worthwhile purchase at 75.

This seems a fantastic deal to me but I would only buy one that supports DIVX. Are there any of those about?

Bought these yesterday, deffo good value....would give rep if I could !!

Price gone up to £139.99 now :-(

shame it doesnt play DivX, otherwise great

fantastic

bought one today, sounds quite loud and screen good for what you pay. Box says it play Cd-r too.
