Excellent adaptation of Raymond Briggs book with an equally excellent sountrack from artists including David Bowie and Roger Waters.

Synopsis:
Jim and Hilda Bloggs are the typical, retired couple in rural England. They drink endless cups of tea and have an unwavering faith in the wisdom of their government. They understand that a Third World War is imminent between the US and the Soviets. However, they fail to grasp the concept that war will be fought by nuclear means, and what consequences this will have. With the help of government issued pamphlets Jim builds a shelter to protect the couple, and although they survive a nuclear blast they are completely ignorant to the fact that the radiation from the fall out is killing them. All the time they believe in their government and that, sooner rather than later, everything will be back to the way it was...

Not heard of that one but will look out for it, thanks for the tip! The 80's 'nuke film' that had the biggest impact on me was Threads - haven't seen it since it was aired on national TV in the 80's but I remember it having a big impact on me.

Disturbed the poop outta me as a kid this depressing film did, voted hot.

I saw this as a youngster in the 80's. It changed my view on nuclear weapons, which i still retain today. Great for 10+ id say, but may scare younger kids.

10p cheaper @ sendit but whos quibbling over 10p, heat added.

nothing better then wacking me earphones in & just losing myself in his music, the first time i heard Waters on his own it was just WOW !!!! ive never had the chance to see him live, but he's in my top ten of things to do/see before i die ! so one day perhaps.

You can watch this free on youtube - youtube.com/wat…oQo (but well worth buying!)

This scared the hell out of me when I was a kid :w00t:

My first thought was that this was Andy Wilman's (Ricky Gervais in "Extras") sitcom released on its own spin-off dvd. It isn't.

too many pills perhaps?

People who appreciated this might also like, if that's the right word, Grave of the Fireflies (a Japanese anime). Both deal with similar themes and are real emotional tear jerkers.

Seems weird that When the Wind Blows was made when we all genuinely feared nuclear holocaust in the 80's and this was an animation of a children's book.

Take into account the RAC 5% blag and the quidco payment, then actually I think you will find its cheaper then at Play.

Also factor in that there are plenty of deals listed on here that have similar price points elsewhere, that get voted hot, mainly because someone lists a good dvd or cd that others may have forgotten about, or its just a good buying suggestion.

This post on this sparked off a forgotten memory of it for me.

Watched this a million times and never get fed up of it...

Last time I watched it back to back with Threads... Oh how we laughed!

Even with the 5% RAC discount, it only brings the price you pay at point of purchase to £4.74. Then after a couple of months you might get a further 19p cashback, bringing the overall cost to £4.55. That's only 34p cheaper than at Sendit - hardly a scorching hot deal, is it?
I'm not saying this film isn't worth paying £4.99 for, far from it, but I will only vote hot on a deal that is significantly cheaper than elsewhere. IMO that's the whole point of this site - finding really good deals for prices you can't get close to elsewhere. This isn't one of those deals.

As for voting hot because it's a film you may have forgotten about or because it "sparks off a forgotten memory" - don't make me laugh. What have your memories got to do with whether a deal is hot?? Would people still vote hot if it was £100, just because it brought back memories??

Plenty of OTHER deals on this site that are only marginally cheaper elsewhere, why are you choosing this particular one to pick on..in your opinion then I guess with the heat that this deal and other deals on CDs that are only marginally cheaper elsewhere are irrelevant does not really stick. If you only vote hot on a deal that has significant saving, why make such a statement on this one by voting in cold, why bother at all?

As far as making you laugh you pompous person you, I feel you miss the point, that this and other "deals" of marginal savings differences give present ideas etc, or buying ideas you may have forgotten about.

*EDIT*

Further food for thought for your brain, deals of this nature can be temporary price points, the original price of this is 19.99 making this a 75% saving, admittedly there are several retailers that have the price at around 75% off, however some of those retailers are all part of The Hut group, and you also find that as one retailer drops the price, others do in competition.

So because several retailers (some part of the same group) have a 75% saving on this you feel its not a deal?

You can watch this in its entirety on Youtube, albeit in lower than dvd quality.. if you want to try before you buy.

You should do your research properly before making such sweeping statements. 'Marginally cheaper than elsewhere' - what, like HMV where it is on for £16.99?

75 % off the RRP at The Hut retail group OR Play.com is a great deal if you ask me. Were you not the one that came in here trying to force your superiority by voting it cold, and not being able to see the sense in the deal?

75% is three quarters of its retail price in savings, what makes a deal to you?

The fact you make such a statement out of voting it cold for no valid reason whatsoever, what planet are you on..try reading AGAIN. Do you only read into things what you want to?

For your benefit again, and why this deal is hot :

As I stated earlier :

And yet you state "Cheaper elsewhere and only slightly more expensive everywhere else - hardly a hot deal. Voted cold" It is a deal at one of several places (and some of those being part of the same retail group) other than that its 11-17 and an RRP of 19.99, then you fail to acknowledge this, however, change your tune and state the deal is "warm"......and you ask what planet I am on?

I voted cold and gave a reason why. In your opinion, it wasn't a valid reason. Fair enough - we disagree, but that's hardly me trying to "force my superiority" - what a stupid comment.

HMV have it close at 16.99..hell what do I expect from a person when you read into their past deals has such tripe as Michael Jackson CDs marginally cheaper than the competition :whistling: You were the one calling others superior for disagreeing with your ridiculous cold justifications, in turn trying to make yourself out to be superior!

Now you've resorted to spouting nonsense that isn't even true! Are you that desperate? I posted that deal months ago, and it was MUCH cheaper than any of the competition at the time. Any more stuff you wanna make up? All this from a Curve fan. Jeez....

Much cheaper? Your deal was 3 quid cheaper than the competition, this deal at several retailers (part of the hut chain I repeat again) is 6 quid cheaper than the nearest competition...what am I making up :whistling:  You are losing the plot, I do not lie. If the original poster of this would have stated the deal was between 4.79 and 6 quid odd at several retailers and the next nearest price is then 11 quid, would that have made it a hot deal in your opinion? I just don't think you get the fact at all.

I would much prefer to be into alternative music than Michael Jackson the king of pap, who didn't write much of his own material, great performer, yeah...great songwriter...I don't think.

Absolutely I would have!! But the OP didn't, did they??! The OP posted it specifically for Play - I pointed out it was available for similar prices elsewhere so the Play deal wasn't particularly hot. You seem to be missing that point entirely and think I should have just bizarrely voted on it's price at different retailers not mentioned by the OP. Ridiculous.

And I'm not into Michael Jackson for what it's worth. I just posted a deal on one of his CDs.
