Don't buy if you aren't prepared to pay a possible customs charge, pay with credit card, expect long waits sometimes, but decent service in general from aliexpress, check the returns procedure in advance as well.

Ordered. Sister-in-law was after a new phone for about £150. Managed to stretch her budget for this 128gb model.
Hopefully this will last her longer than most phone tend to
Ordered 64Gb version a week ago for 172 GBP with 15-20 days delivery with DHL...
I hope to receive it soon er
Nice! Its got more RAM than some peoples PC's
Decent phone for price
Try Promo code JAREK1111 to bring it down to £158.80.
Have been considering getting the 8T. Is the pro much better?

Much? No! Would I get it over the 8t? No! Is it better, yes, slightly.

Why would you get this over the 8t if this is slightly better?

Processor basically. You know what you're getting with a snapdragon 665

MrSwitch I am unsure if I should get this phone or the Xiaomi k30 256gb 8gb ram which is selling for around £239 on AliExpress with the use of 2 codes. What would you buy would appreciate your advice if possible.
Thanks

Depends if you're OK with flashing a rom or downloading Google play services to the K30?

The k30 which I was thinking of buying is a global ROM and I think already comes with Google play unless I have it wrong. Here is the link
m.aliexpress.com/ite…c=N

Also says tariff paid. With the 2 coupons it works out to be around £234 which is a lot more than this phone you posted but what do you think?

Good deal that one, and thanks for the kind words
I have one of these, fast and smooth but a bit big and heavy compared to my old redmi note 5!
I bought this from the same store on AliExpress for £124 (previous Singles Day deal posted here on HUKD). I did get hit by a customs/VAT charge (approx £15 including Royal Mail's handling fee) but it was still cheaper than anywhere else! Phone took about 4 weeks to arrive but was kept informed all the way.

The phone itself is great! MIUI takes a little getting used to if you're coming from stock Android but all works as it should. I bought an excellent Spigen case and a protective screen from Amazon too.

My only slight gripe and perhaps @MrSwitch can answer this - taking photos using Portrait mode on my Redmi Note 5 produced some incredible shots but the Portrait Mode on the Note 8 doesn't seem as good (even with the Quad cameras). Pictures seem washed out and almost blurry on occasions. Any ideas why this could be?

It doesn't make sense to me, photos on any phone whether in landscape or portrait mode should produce the same images.
Very much like the look of this or the 7 pro do they come with a guarantee?
I need one for Turkey but might have to buy it there at twice the price unfortunately

No guarantee from Ali unfortunately
Very interesting a bit of a gamble then
Re guarantee

The general consensus is that you have to be prepared to lose your money if there's a problem.

That’s very risky
Strange you can buy a new product with no guarantee and how much to buy with one?

Sorry @MrSwitch - what I meant was the Redmi models have a specific Camera mode called 'Portrait' - e.g. it produces a Bokeh effect blurring the background whilst retaining focus in the foreground. My old Note 5 produced some absolutely stunning photos but the same types of photos on the Note 8 are just not as good... and this was meant to be with a supposedly much improved quad camera. Perhaps I need to use another Camera app instead of the native one?! Thought you might know with all your hands-on experience with that Redmi's, that's all. Thanks!

Totally passed me by that one. I was thinking direction instead of mode. I apologise.

Are there currently any gcam mods available for the 8, I know there are for other recently released, just haven't looked or heard of any for that, maybe that will sort it, or maybe there is an update, have you looked online to see if there are similar experiences?
There is a YouTube video comparing 7 pro to 8 pro and quite interesting

I believe 7 pro photos are better
@MrSwitch I'd appreciate your opinion as to which would be the best buy if I'm not too concerned about the quality of photos -

a. this Note 8 Pro
b. Note 8t
c. Huawei P30 Lite
d. Other phone in that price range ?

Thank you.

I'd go for the mi 9 lite in that price range, has the best of all worlds, including a better camera
