Xenoblade Chronicles is exclusive to the new 3ds and makes use of the C-Stick which this piece of hardware doesn't have

As somebody who had both the old and new XL versions, you would be better off spending the extra cash on the new version, the 3d effect on the new version are how the 3ds should have been since day one.

As a matter of fact, everything from the 3d, battery, weight, is better than the older version.

I totally agree with you. I thought the old version was so bad I actually never used it with the 3D on.

Some games aren't too bad on full strength 3D but others like Ocarina Of Time and Castlevania are terrible if you tilt the console ever so slightly. I might invest in the new 3DS one day.

buying old gen at this stage is backwards....

The New 3ds and New 3ds xl have a more powerful processor than the original 3ds and 3ds xl, which speeds up the general interface, loading and download speed. Xenoblade Chronicles is the only 3ds title at the moment that requires the more powerful processor to run. It's not simply the lack of the C-stick, although Xenoblade obviously does use it.

its a good price but considering you can get the new standard size for slightly more or xl on top of that you'd be definitely better going for one of those to future proof yourself. amiibo support starts soon another feature built into the new one instead of needing an extremal adapter.

new 3DS > old 3DS if you can afford the difference

so if you buy this brand new 3ds xl you can't play new 3ds xl games?

If you're into the Xenoblade franchise you'd be better off with the New 3DS That is, as far as I know, the only New 3DS exclusive title at the moment.

Talk about confusing naming Nintendo LOL! Couldn't they name the new one 4ds xl?

FYI from 3rd August Tesco have their double value clubcard boost, if like me, you have over £55 in Clubcard points!
