Improved farming methods are now allowing for cheap legs of lamb.

leg of lamb is my favourite roast dinner.Cheapest ive seen it at but ive had it from aldi before and not as tasty as morrisons lamb which is £5 kg at the minute.hot fo price though.

Dinner sorted, thank you op, heat added

cheaper than the big four!

Where did you manage to find the price? Website still says price coming soon and probably won't be announce until tomorrow. It was £3.79 per kg last year and I am hoping it will be this year too. I will be there in the morning to try and buy some.

Fair enough. Well spotted. Thanks.

excellent!! cheers!!

Don't waste your money, it's awful. We've just had some and most of it was fat, hardly any meat.

This offer starts tomorrow (Monday April 10th) - and the legs of lamb for this promotion should arrive at Aldi stores tonight

Good British Lamb, have some heat!

Is it bingo? Legs eleven! Or is it eleven legs?

Agree with earlier comments. It is a good price, however, not worth it as poor quality. Most of it is fatty.

lamb IS fatty

gives it flavour, obviously you cook it out mostly so that you don't end up with much fat in the meat on your plate

Thank you Gordon Ramsay. I was completely in the dark until you enlightened me.
So you are saying it does not vary in quality? It does and what I was commenting on is the large amount of fat that ran through the middle of the leg. I have cooked many times and I can only comment on my experience and this was poor quality by far in comparison. I wouldn't buy again.

Sounds like a threesome I had. And maybe it was just me.

Thanks for posting.
Just bought 3 legs of lamb from my local store.

Hopefully those will be better then but the one we had from there yesterday was awful and really not worth the money. We only got it because my 90 year old nan won't eat beef and prefers lamb. Won't be so cheap next time and will get it for her from Morrisons as usual.

Picked up one today, seemed to be alot of water in the bag, and they didn't feel very firm. Then went over to Iceland and noticed they were on offer for £3.95/kg, so picked one up there as well which looked much better quality.

How does a leg of lamb "Look much better quality" ?

The Iceland lamb offer is from NZ - and the Aldi lamb offer is British (and cheaper) - so perhaps an "independent" taste quality review would clarify the HUKD Supermarket Lamb Wars argument

Haha, i think we do need an independent review after reading through all the different lamb threads! I'd pretty much always buy meat from Aldi over Iceland, but the lamb i got today from Aldi is very soft, pale in colour, hardly any fat, and all slimy due to the amount of water it was sitting in, might've just been the ones in my store though so can't comment on what is being offered elsewhere. The Iceland one looks and feels much more like a good leg of lamb should do. I'm guessing due to the time of year the British lamb is much older in comparison to what is being offered from NZ.

As you've purchased legs from two different stores - HUKD members eagerly await your unbiased opinion on the taste/quality of the meat/value

Sorry but I would have left it on the shelf if it looked like that !!
Maybe I was lucky with the ones I bought.

I found a lovely large leg of lamb last night. Cost only £10.79 for 2.84Kg.

Have to say I spent a good 15 minutes foraging as a lot of the packages contained ridiculously large volumes of blood and as a couple of previous comments note, fat!

Happy to say though that the foraging was worth it as I have a lovely large joint that cost me less than half the price at my local butchers.
