Poor chickens

Elmwood used to be a good 1 to buy but they are now been mistreated & the coop R hiding the legs/shins undr the skin overlap a sure way to hide the burrn marks

I know, but lets not let them die in vain eh?

Sharwoods Tikka Massala imho is just as nice as some takeaways, and Im sure the chuck would be proud.

Anyone remember the £2 whole chicken from Tesco?

Mega Cow Prison Farms are coming for Bovines, producing milk and meat like battery hen eggs.

Give it a few years, £2/£3.33 will be expensive

£1 chicken? Not implausible given the plans in place for new mega cow complexes on the way.

If you can't afford meat become a veggie (_;)

Not really whole,as I bought these and they had no heads or feet.
Title is a bit misleading:p

mine also had feathers and beak missing!!! refund!

These chickens know exactly what will happen to them. And they know the winning lottery numbers. And they can contact their already cooked relatives. And they make pottery.

The elmwood chickens ARE higher welfare compared to the poor suckers that end up on the shelves of Tesco Adsa et all... if you can't afford 3 for a tenner to at least slightly ease your conscience, then yes, you should be a veggie.

"higher welfare" doesn't always mean what it should, This run down on chicken labels might be helpfull if you want to check what your buying....

What the labels mean

Stop worrying about the chickens and concentrate on your use of English - it's more important!

These deals make me sad

The Co-op elmwood range reflects the values of the RSPCA Freedom food, out of any of the major retailers i think the Co-op is the only one i would trust, in regards to higher welfare standards.

They're constantly being awarded for "Green Activities (I believe they won an award last year for being the greenest retailer in britain) and they're contribution to the likes of Fair-trade, Freedom Foods, the list goes on,

Heat added.

Breed them, feed them, slaughter them, eat them.

Have you seen what these things do to each other?

I'm personally vegetarian, but I can't really afford free range eggs so I just cut down on my usage, not just try and come up with an awful excuse and buy eggs from tortured hens to make myself feel better.

By all means, buy from farmers that abuse their chickens while it's still legal - I'm not going to attempt to "convert" you like so many people get stroppy about - but don't make up a terrible excuse to try and excuse your behaviour. For you to have to do so means that you know it is wrong, so just accept it and move on or actually do something to make it better. Either way, don't lie.

Attack each other? I'm pretty sure it's only caged chickens that do that due to being in a constant highly-distressed state. I've never seen any issues with chickens attacking each other while in a decent environment?

Yes, first hand. I have a flock of chucks, they socialise, tell each other when food is available, know their place in the pecking order. Stick them in a tiny cage or cramped 'barn' on the other hand and all that natural behaviour goes straight out of the window. Therefore, don't try to rear them in too small a space!

not a veggie but couldn't eat battery eggs, the cruelest food out there!

re the cow/chicken factory apologists, are you seriously saying that you don't care about the quality of the food/fuel that you put in your body? I'm not vegetarian but I wouldn't want to put anything in my mouth that has been filled with more drugs than an GDR female athlete and more than likely been forced to live in its own faeces.

Think I'll stick with free range and leave these for the chav class council estate brigade

Can't you adopt some hens:-

Lets hope they are Halal , because having a recording of a few arabic words before you are slaughtered makes it all better.
Heat --Kentucky and Nandos use the same meat --your local curry house uses pet food grade chicken

Looks like something I'd do in the future but I'm not allowed pets and don't have a garden at the moment.
