I made a right pigs a**e of the last one I bought from Asda...rather pay a bit more, and have it filleted for me.

I find the larger the fish, the easier it is to fillet.

Just chop the head off and run a sharp knife along the bone on each side. Then use a fish bone tweezer/picker (around £2/£3 @ Amazon) to remove the small bones along the middle of the fillet. Takes me about 20mins per fish.

Have asked 3 or 4 times over a period of time....they always say they don't fillet them.

Nice one i've been waiting for the whole salmon deals to start.

Not at this price they don't, and when it is this price, they usually pack the fish and put them in freezes away from the fish counter, so, if you do walk upto the fish counter with a packed full salmon, they're like we got nothing to do with that fish, it's not from the fish counter.

I bought one last year we asked and they said they don't fillet them because they are pre packed in sealed bags it was an absolute nightmare doing it ourselves

Wait for Tesco to do an offer, they will do whatever preparation you want.

Nice find; there has been a salmon shortage due to lice infestation and the available salmon were going into prepared fish (fillets and pieces) as these are higher value items. Hopefully things have got back to normal.

we do fillet them (I also work for asda). I have been doing that today. I hate whole salmon!!!

Well the miserable git in Asda Walton nearly through a wobbler last year when I asked him to fillet a whole salmon and after a lot of nasty snarls he finally 'butchered' it in 20 seconds leaving most of the flesh on the bone.

If you live near London or Hastings then Billingsgate market run intro courses on filleting fish. I went to one a couple of weeks ago in Hastings -- it was very good - was only £8 including two whole fresh fish to take home.

how do you book the class?

Wanted 3x and the miserable cow behind counter said she didn't have time to fillet any.

Asked again politely and she said she could do 2x but not 3x...

Hopefully next customer didn't want one

Just had phone call 24hr Asda #Blyth have had delivery today - same price £5/kilo

I have been to few ASDA in London.
WHat they do is they normally already seal the whole Salmon in the plastic bag and they will tell you porkies that they are not allowed to open it due to health risk ....

Just bought a big one @ Ware Asda. £13.72 for a 2.74kg fish. Same weight fish @ Tesco would've cost £24.66 oO

Also, use by date is 6/12.

Just bought a couple of big ones which were reduced by a further 50% and still look very fresh (eyes are still nice and shiny!)

One of the advantages of living next to Asda.

Hot, why is Salmon so expensive?

Very cheap compared to HK. I was in ParknShop in Sai Kung and they were selling a tiny slice of Norway salmon for £9!
