Oh what a big smelly fish fill your boots!

Good price but make sure it's fresh from Asda. Some days their fish really looks a bit past it!

Old trout!

something smells fishy about this deal

Something smells fishy in the panties :-0

Good for the central Europeans for Christmas

I believe carp is their traditional fish

To ensure the fish is fresh, look at the eyes. If they are murky and grey, it's definitely not fresh.

Come on ladies, this is not a one pound fish!

cold... I know a guy that sells these for one pound.

Not always the one for making a song and dance out of deals, but why not - link

Good deal but the only problem with it is they were pre packed and no one to cut the head off of the fish.

They like carp not trout

how do you get the head off?

Banned

Sharp knife.

Slit the belly, throat to **** so to speak, be careful not to cut more than skin deep or you'll pierce the stinky gut.

Firmly grip all the innards - gut, heart, liver, kidneys etc and pull them out from throat to ****. Dispose of them.

Now, depending on your wishes, cut off head, tail, fins and chuck away.

Give it a wash and make sure you pulled out all the innards.

Some fish need scaling, pull knife along body against the grain and they'll flick off.

Ready for cooking.

good to know, but can''t you just get the fish monger do it instead?

I wondered why these were reduced at 8pm tonight. Therre was loads of them for 32p so I got two. No had trout for a while and I wouldn't bother again.

Just bought this fish from Asda yesterday and cooked it with the this recipe: bbcgoodfood.com/rec…lic
Fiancee totally loved it. Fish was clean and gutted upon purchase and tasted very fresh.

Just got a couple and look really fresh - Thanks OP.

The 2 weigh 735 grams - so pretty good I think for £3.

Does anyone know if these can be frozen?

cheers

hollymia - you are fine to freeze the trout bought from ASDA, they are all sold from fresh, and kept chilled from farm to fish counterso very suitable for freezing. Squillion you are correct in how to gut a trout, but not needed as all ASDA trout come pre-gutted and cleaned, this is not the case at Tesco or Morrisons though so watch out if buying from there.

Thanks for the info RBT. Think we will get a few more whilst the deal is on and whack in the freezer.

Wasn't sure so decided to cook and flake this morning which I knew could be frozen.

For some reason I was too squeemish to handle and cut the head off the first one I cooked and cut it off with a knife and fork!

Dunno why cos have never had problems before handling raw fish or eating fish with the head on.

Word of warning though - if you steam whole fish, as I did, DO cut the head off before as it does very strange things to the eyes if you don't!

Got 350 Grams of edible trout after cooking. Gonna make a nice pate with that.

Cheers
