"Nothing beats the feeling of riding a tandem. More sociable and fun than just riding two bikes with the added advantage of being faster, Tandems are the perfect bike for two.
The benefits of riding a tandem include:
Faster average speeds on flats and up hills
Rear rider can ride with no hands, eat/drink, and take photos
No more shouting to be heard or having to ask the other to repeat what they just said
No drafting behind the front rider required
One less bike lock
The bike will be less likely to be stolen because it is so big
No stopping and waiting if one of you rides faster than the other "

According to Ruland.
Apparently 80% off
"Ex Hire Bike Lovingly Prepared for Re-homing.
This bike is an ex-hire bike and has served one season on our Rutland Cycling hire fleet. During this time the bike has been maintained to a high standard by our Cytech accredited mechanics and prepared for resale by our workshops. The bike has been prepared and set up to the same level as our brand new bikes but may exhibit some cosmetic damage in the form of scratches and scuffs. This in no way will affect the safe operation of the bicycle"
I can't find this exact model on the Orbit website and the bike is only available in 18"/14" frame size directly from their central depot.
Going by the pictures, it appears to have an alloy frame and rear disk brake

Ex-hire = framework. paintwork & handlebars battered.

If not the above why would they sell them?

I welcome being corrected.

Strip down & respray & assemble = circa £200-£250 with a margin (being very generous with that figure.)

So why sell a £2500 bike for £500 when it only takes £250 MAX to put it in mint condition?

I've emailed them to ask about the condition of the bikes and provide an actual photo, their last reply was only " the bicycles will have some cosmetic damage in the form of scratches and scuffs, but will be in full working order.
You will receive the full manufacturers warranty on the frame. We will offer a 3 month guarantee on the component parts."
Which is pretty useless (of course they'll be in full working order, that wasn't what I asked)
