Why is that? What do you recommend?

Any other discounts or promo codes knocking about?
Anyone after something similar but in 12mm, I bought this from Homebase and came out a treat.

We have this throughout our house, simple to lay clicks in. This flooring is 'branded' differently depending on the retailer. Although branded for Wickes it is manufactured by Kronospan featuring their 1clic2go system which Wickes call 'rapid fit'.

I think it is Krono Supernatural Classic Boulder Oak in its original form, this at Wickes is a very good price and about what we paid per pack just before Christmas.

For a generic but fairly good quality 8mm Laminate you would be hard pressed to get cheaper unless you drop on a clearance item at your local DIY sheds. We had some samples from discount flooring depot and nothing they did could match the price and quality.

Over the past 6 months we have noticed a couple of small chips barely noticeable, but laminate is laminate 'fairly' durable and this is at the higher end of quality for domestic 8mm.

We used royale sonic gold underlay and the cheapest we could find at the time was through Amazon marketplace.

Good thing with Wickes too is their return, we over ordered purposely and Wickes had something like a 6 month return policy (do check though) and check corners of packs for any signs of damage. They are simply wrapped in thin card housing plastic shrink wrap outer therefore prone to edge damage if mishandled.
Video of Kronospan 1clic2go system.

From Wickes again but 12mm and a bit lighter. More in price per square metre

Doesn’t look very good quality in the flesh. Wouldn’t expect it to be very hard wearing and wouldn’t suggest it is much of a bargain at the reduced price tbh.

Wickes’ return policy is 30days. They stopped the 6month one some time ago.

Well it was still in place earlier this year, we bought in October, stored and then fitted in December/January when we had keys to the new build, and returned excess towards end of January.

Would agree with the many positive reviews on Wickes website after fitting it throughout this house (bar the staircase , WC and bathroom), as I said earlier laminate is laminate never going to be hard wearing like proper wood but compared to what else we have looked at as far as domestic laminate goes this is AC4 rated...would be hard pushed finding 8mm AC4 rated laminate with such a easy fit system for any cheaper, can you find a better bargain?

Is it AC3 or AC4?

AC4, it is Kronospan Supernatural Boulder Oak 'rebranded'.
B&Q sell this as 'Amadeo Boulder Oak' and have a new lower price of £22.20 a pack, certainly do not think it is worth the Wickes full retail price (and yes they do sell it at that, have seen it go back up to it) of £32.61 a pack. At £7 per square metre it is very good value.

That doesn’t help people buying from Wickes now. Their returns policy is 30 days.

I am just referring to you saying they had stopped it some time ago...must have been fairly recent.
Don't think you can look much past Harbour Oak Grey. 12mm, 25 year wear warrancy ... AC5 rating.

I'd not bother with 8mm, definately worth investing a little more for a more solid feel, installation cost will remain the same...

One benefit of this range, is the fact the grain flows for a better feel. Majority are starting to do it now. An alternative to this colour would be Timeless Oak Grey.

Also, I dislike seeing customer installations when fitters fit it without randomly staggering it. My advice, don't be lazy. Laminate isn't meant to look uniform.

Random Staggered (in my opinion a much better finish)

Went into store and saw the arreton (was actually greyer with less white streaks) and much preferred it to the shimla in both looks and quality. Ordered the arreton.
regarding the coment bout the grain running through the boards, I don't like this as it looks odd, you don't see that in real wood floor generally, but each to their own I suppose.

Is it a darker grey or more of a white in colour please

It all depends really on the pattern in the laminate sections, I would say it is more of a mid grey and the grey itself has a slightly brown hue if that makes sense, some sections do have a lighter wood knot pattern running through them, there certainly are more lighter white oak laminates than this

I know what you mean, my Dad and myself fitted ours throughout...took us a good while but we totally randomised the staggering.

It's not worth the time and money it takes to fit it for the uniform look if it can be avoided. Good choice!

Also, another tip is try not to get exact colour matches for laminates. If it's slightly off then it's a nightmare. Just match your skirting. White beading is great!

Best option is to have the laminate under skirting, but undercutting boards is a labourous job. Taking off skirting boards might not be an option. The beading blends and looks part of the skirting if it's white.

I know what you mean. Beat part is you can fit them however you want. Just an option when laying. For the record, I've put mine down randomly.

I should add I work for a flooring company that's expanding throughout the UK. The 12mm Range from Kronotex is by far the best bang for buck laminate you can buy.

Dark grey is a really good seller too mind. Loft - Dark grey.

Timeless oak Grey would be my choice to rival this laminate in terms of colour. Have a few stores you can go in now too to see the laminates.

Definitely random every time the only laminate I would ev r run uniformly is tile or stone effect

Absolutely, due to the air tightness testing unfortunately could not ask the builders to leave a gap so used white scotia beading, cheapest I could find was from toolstation, does the job nicely....its a laborious job just taking the cuts for the expansion gap with door frames

I really do not understand why people would ever go for beading that matches the laminate, not only is it costly but ends up looking odd against skirting if white.
Costco are doing laminate flooring I think in 3 different colours, its 14mm thick which includes 2mm foam underlay. I paid just under £18 per box which is 1.16 m² per pack. I know its more expensive but loos and feels good

Although denser it might only be medium fibre particleboard rather than high density fibreboard, the quality and thickness of the laminate layer and 'quality' (if you can call any manufactured wood quality lol) of the particleboard is the real test in durability AC1-AC4 all are direct pressure laminated, whereas AC5 and above are high pressure laminated, more durable but have a rougher textured surface considered to be a little too abrasive for domestic households. The thickness will feel nice under foot though and can help sound reduction, there again so can good quality underlay.

More info, in somewhat bad English but informative nonetheless on the 'myth' that 12mm must be better than 10mm or 8mm [here]
