I know I am going to get slaughtered for this, but the various pound shops do a version of VDE, s for a pound and a voltage tester for a pound. And they would not be allowed to sell them if they we're not up to the British Standard.

I know, would you trust your life, etc, etc.

Actually the Chinese quality has come on leaps and bounds. But they are still touch and go - Wiha are NOT. In a Pounshop is where they should be. These are ridiculously overpriced, but almost worth it.
There used to be British factories producing at least as good quality spanners and screwdrivers as the Germans before Thatcher the milk snatcher and factory closer

Safety aside the pound shop versions will be made of cheese steel and round off/snap in no time. They're essentially landfill waiting to happen. Having said that, i can't recommend these either as the insulation isn't very hardy and will soon become damaged. In contrast, wiha's slim vde screwdrivers are much more hardy.

Both excellent screwdrivers. I have a Wiha interchageable set, and they're great and a couple of Wera screwdrivers, which are also great. Must admit I do pay over the odds for name makes, mainly German. But I wish there were British makes up to that standard, not just Draper Expert (British company made in Germany)

Actually there are similar Wera screwdriver set similar to this for around the same price at the moment at Amazon, and while I like Wiha - Wera are a great addition - both German (and they aren't very original with their names, are they ?)

If you're willing to pay a premium for British tools, try King Dick. Don't know about the drivers but the spanners and sockets are UK made and of excellent quality.

Have a look online, but for example on Amazon (not the best price):

Yeah, I have a few King Dick tools and they are and always have been good
I wonder which bright spark thought up the name "King Dick"?
