Introducing The Wii U Premium

Discover a wealth of exciting new ways to enjoy home entertainment with Wii U, Nintendo’s next home console. With a revolutionary new touch screen controller, precision motion controls, and full HD graphics, a whole new world of play styles and gaming possibilities is on the horizon. The time is coming to truly expand your idea about what a game console is - and can be.

A New Wii Console Experience
According to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, “Wii U redefines the structure of home entertainment by fundamentally changing how the TV, the game console and the Internet function and interact together,” he continues, “The experience enabled by Wii U and its new controller takes players deeper into their games, while reaching out wider than ever before to be inviting to all kinds of gamers.”

Wii U combines motion-sensing gameplay with the ability to support full HD graphics. Each Wii U console will be paired with a new groundbreaking controller, with its 6.2-inch wide screen. Previously, video games played on a home consoles have been confined to the TV and offered identical viewpoints to each player in a multiplayer environment. The Wii U controller enhances that experience with different viewpoints available in-game and in differing games/game situations. Also, watching TV and playing console games have been completely separate experiences. The new controller removes these boundaries, creating a more dynamic and fluid gaming and entertainment experience.

Examples of this new functionality include:

Within Single Player Games:
While in-game the new controller can display information on its screen that does not appear on the TV
The information and viewpoint can also change in the new controller based on the orientation of its gyroscope
Within Multiplayer Games:
The player using the new controller can have a different experience than those looking at the TV creating a wider variety of competitive and cooperative opportunities
The New Controller
In addition to its 6.2-inch screen, the new controller also features an accelerometer and a gyroscope, a rumble feature, an inward-facing camera, a microphone and speakers. Adding these features to the Classic Controller button scheme — two analog Circle Pads, +Control Pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons and ZL/ZR buttons — will enable a breadth of gameplay experiences while appealing to both casual and dedicated video game players. The Wii U system can also use up to four additional Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus controllers and is backward compatible to all Wii games and all Wii accessories. The Wii console has sold more than 86 million units globally and greatly expanded the overall audience for video games. Wii U aims to expand that audience even further.

Features:

Console Size - Approximately 1.8-inches tall, 6.8-inches wide and 10.5-inches long.
New Controller - The new controller incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button controls, including two analog circle pads. This combination removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world. The rechargeable controller includes a power button, home button, +control pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons and ZL/ZR buttons. It includes a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, a sensor strip and a stylus.
Other Controls - Up to four Wii Remote (or Wii Remote Plus) controllers can be connected at once. The new console supports all Wii controllers and input devices, including the Nunchuk controller, Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro and Wii Balance Board.
Media - A single self-loading media bay will play 12-centimeter proprietary high-density optical discs for the new console, as well as 12-centimeter Wii optical discs.
Video Output - Supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i. Compatible cables include HDMI, component, S-video and composite.
Audio Output - Uses AV Multi Out connector. Six-channel PCM linear output through HDMI.
Storage - The console will have internal flash memory, as well as the option to expand its memory using either an SD memory card or an external USB hard disk drive.
CPU - IBM Power-based multi-core microprocessor.
GPU - AMD Radeon-based High Definition GPU.
Other - Four USB 2.0 connector slots are included. The new console is backward compatible with Wii games and Wii accessories.

Great console, highly underated. Or you could wait and pay triple to play all it's best games on the Switch ;-)
The Wii U has a piano black finish, imagine how scratched up these units are. Also imagine the sweaty hands of dole heads touching it, covered in weed and p1ss

I bought one from cex a while back and it was exactly like this minus the p1ss! But the air vents were blocked by pubes and the like though, so it took a bit of cleaning before it was allowed in our house!!!
I must admit I'm tempted by this just to play Zelda

Some great games, but a horribly mis-managed console.

From its very inception to its bitter end, the Wii U was an obomination.

Heat for the price. And yes... It does have some classic games.
I must admit I'm tempted by this just to play Zelda
This was once the nation's favourite console. Still worth a go if you haven't played on it already

Was it? I thought most of the general public didn’t know what it was (many apparently thought it was a Wii add-on) and that’s a big reason for why it failed.

If you're going to give your new console such a similar name to the last, you better market it heavily to make sure people know the difference!
This deal is ok. But would probably pay the £25 extra for the game deal which has 2 games Mario Bro u and smash bros.
can this be hacked and games installed like the old Wii?

Yes. Which is why I'm now interested. Love my old modded Wii. Still gets a lot of use. I do own all the originals too as a collector, before anyone says. But the convenience of playing from the HDD is amazing. Would like to upgrade but this price is still a little high for me.
Great console tbh. Loads of fun games made with gameplay as a priority, and the console my other half always wants on so she and friends can play too.

Zelda was amazing, and if it wasn't for the Switch arriving at around the same time was reason enough to buy the Wii U.

Having said that they shouldn't have bothered with the gamepad/screen, that part was a gimmick that just made to console more expensive than it should have been.
I keep looking at this at the moment because I want a Switch but it would all be for mario kart and zelda, when I could just get the U ahhhhhhh

Let's be honest, lots of people will jailbreak this anyway. It's a great deal. Hot from me

Sold my switch for this reason, as I already have the Wii u. Don't buy discounted though, always go for the unboxed option. You'll also save money on extra controllers and games. The Wii u pro controller is £25 on cex too,
Why are these still so expensive? I have one, don't get me wrong, I think its a reasonable machine - but let it be clear, its a failed machine - why are they still getting such a high price second hand?
Honestly a better console to play than the Switch with a better library of games still at present.
I have owned a Wii U and I think, even at £95, this is a hard sell for me.

Most of the best games have been or will be moved over to the Switch (albeit at full price) which kind of renders the Wii U's library a little obsolete? I also found the Wii U to be a messy set up with loads of bits everywhere (especially if you use the Wii backwards compat.) and a second screen that was, essentially, always on even if you weren't using it.

I know it's a lot more expensive but the Switch has a much better form factor, is way more convenient and actually feels like it has a future..

I sound negative here but I really enjoyed the Wii U's library while I had it. Some standouts were Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker, Mario Kart 8 and ZombiU.

Just my thoughts.

This is a lesson to all those people who constantly moan at Nintendo "rip off prices".

THEY HOLD THEIR VALUE.

7 year old console, the biggest console flop in Nintendo history, terrible design, terrible marketing, £250 original price new. And just shy of £100 is a bargain for this console currently. That's Nintendo for you.

Xbox one in comparison, sold 3x as many consoles as the WiiU, and is still considered I'd say a big flop(that's how poorly Nintendo did with the WiiU) it cost £429 on release and is currently worth £140 at the same website, and is also a year newer.

If you can be sure of something, it's that in in 10 years the xbox one will be barely worth £20. The Nintendo anything will always be worth much more. I suspect the wii u may actually hold this value for the next decade or so.
Asking for a friend... How easy is this to homebrew?

My friend says to tell your friend it is easy to homebrew.
Be careful of the condition of these in CeX.

I went in a couple of days ago and there grading system is all over the place. It seems that as long as the console has a box they consider it the best quality, even if the actual console is a state.

I genuinely don’t know how they grade consoles. I picked up a majoras mask 3ds console In store yesterday that was “discounted” (the worst grade I believe). Console is mint and fully boxed

Being completely hacked is probably also partly to blame for prices still being around the £100 second hand. Consoles with firmware that even a 8 year old can hack always hold in price, look how much early ps3s with 3.55 firmware go for.

The high price of a console is more to do with the fact they are rarer to get hold of. IE, there aren't that many Wii U's going and demand isn't high so therefore price stays up. The Xbox one has shifted a ton of units, so 2nd hand ones are readily available and at cheap prices.
Brilliant console. Heat. Bought the preowned one from Game last year.

That was just because there was a strong trend at the time to generic shooters and that was all the fashion. The non-sheep though know a good console when they see one.

Surprised they go for anything these days after the latest webkit exploits. Needing 3.55 is a thing of the past.

Yes, but it's not quite as straight forward as the old Wii. There are a few pitfalls to be wary of, but if you follow all of the guides to the letter you should be fine.

Now you have 3 Wii U's... one original one and two of the new style 'ultra portable' versions.

Same games.

But at least you get minor DLC and reversible game covers for the extra £30 per game on the Switches
Sold my original first party games before the prices crashed, they held up at £15 - £20 for a long time.

I don’t get much of an opportunity to play on it, but it’s the complete Nintendo console. I don’t condone piracy but with homebrew you can emulate every Nintendo Home console (other than the Switch) all from one machine
Might as well if you don't need portable...switch is just a bunch of wii u games for suckers anyway lol

Not in any I've been in. Try a different store cause usually it's pretty good grading and top grade is as new!

I've prettty much got every game on a HDD. Never play it! The hours it takes to download and install though, chew. Will be good when a few people are over though.
