Too expensive for what it is. Should cost no more than £100.

Yesterday Nintendo finally admitted that they've had massive issues with the Wii U and misread the western market. They've lowered Wii U sales estimations for year from 9m to 2.8m and their financial forecast from a ¥55B profit to a ¥25B loss. There needs to be massive changes at Nintendo and I think one of them will be further price drops in the US and Japan, which will be reflected by EU retailers. Either way, it's good to see Nintendo are finally living in reality and hopefully it takes their rabid fanboys down a peg or two.

At the end of the day this is overpriced, underpowered and has very weak third party support. They're going to get cheaper because no one is buying them. Great news for Nintendo fans like myself who want to play 3D World but aren't going to spend 190 bones for the privilege.

He said the company needed to change and "propose something that surprises our customers.""The way people use their time, their lifestyles, who they are—have changed," Mr. Iwata said. "If we stay in one place, we will become outdated."

Notice how I bought a Gamecube for £60 with the Zelda collection and a Dreamcast for £80 with half a dozen games and a keyboard, both less than two years after they were released. Shrewd moves and both consoles were better than the Wii U.

We love ours. Super Mario 3d is amazing and there are some great games coming. If you love Nintendo games this is a great price.

When the Wii U was released everyone was like..... make it £199 and I will buy it...

Nintendo made it £199 and now people (like yourself) are saying make it £99 and I will buy it, people just want Nintendo to fail, and of course these are the same people who port beg for the games to come on PS4 et al

Great deal. Had the wii u since launch and i love it. The first party games are worth the money alone.

If the Wii U hits 100 bones and it's still selling as badly as it is, I'll wait for further price drops.

My wallet is following the market.

Great price, best value new console and available games ATM. Games like Batman Origins and Splinter Cell are knocking around at decent prices and amazing exclusives like Pikmin 3 and Eurogamer's GOTY, Mario 3D World.

You shouldn't let internet loons who try and use Nintendo's recent business blips transitioning into HD gaming put you off from owning a prestigious gaming experience. The worst 'fans' (I use that term loosely) in gaming. Like Major Nelson said the other day, there's too many weirdos in gaming spreading hatred daily on forums around the internet.

I snapped the Wii U when it turned £199, went for the Super Mario Bros bundle.

Personally i love the Wii U, sure hardware wise it's weak and if i'm brutally honest i dont like the OS UI and think the way the console is built / looks is pretty uninspired.. However, titles like Zombie U, Windwalker HD and Super Mario World are fantastic..

Also, my 4 year old absolutely loves Super Mario Bros. Within a couple of weeks he's managed to get to the first boss and kill him.. Amazing how quick he's learnt it. Even if i didn't like the Wii U, i wouldn't get rid of it because he adores it.

I've got an Xbox One also, personally think the Wii U is the stronger of the two and will be for a good year until Microsoft pump out some quality titles.

If you have children between 3-10 years old, having a Wii U is a must if you're into your gaming.

I agree there is a price drop coming but based on how much money Nintendo is sat on I cannot see a £99 console this year.

IMO its worth £199

The controller it's self must be worth £80 on its own. Doubt it'll drop to £100 or under for a long time.

the problem always with Nintendo consoles is there is no real point in buying the system early. You are much better waiting till all the blockbuster first party titles are out and then picking it up cheaper.

To be fair, the Wii U isn't competing with the PS4 and Xbone, it's competing with the PS3 and Xbox 360, both of which are infinitely better consoles and I'd recommend them over a Wii U.

They should get rid of the touchscreen controller then and replace with with the pro controller. Oh wait, that's the one thing that differentiates the machine from the PS3 and Xbox 360 (other than everything else being inferior).

Overpriced, underpowered console with a gimmick controller. Almost sounds like the Wii but at least they had the decency to release that at a somewhat compelling price.

True but it's still better than ps3 or x360 for kids. We ended up paying only 150£ for new premium one so I can't complain about it...but it should be standard price, not nearly 200£. Don't get me wrong it's great fun with kids but lack of 3rd party support made me to get xone when fallout 4 comes out

Great price got one on the Mario 199 deal before Xmas. Lovely console shame idiots who probably know. Nothing about it label it weak sure it's not a heater like the ps4 and xbox that have more power but it's more powerful than last gen and perfectly capable of running visually great games at good fps

You think it's too expensive and wouldn't be buying till it's something stupid like 1p, that's your choice but no need for you to post it over and over and over.............And no I don't own a wii u, just sick and tired of reading the same crap from you in every single wii u thread(and putting you on ignore isn't going to help due to the quote system).

There is no need to be upset. This isn't the same stuff. Nintendo admitted yesterday that their sales and profit forecasts have taken huge hits. It's relevant to a Wii U thread on a website that is about saving money.

Where were all the angry HP fanboys when people were saying wait for the HP Touchpad fire sales?

"Notice how I bought a Gamecube for £60 with the Zelda collection and a Dreamcast for £80 with half a dozen games and a keyboard, both less than two years after they were released. Shrewd moves and both consoles were better than the Wii U."

As much as Wii respect U. Wii think U is now trying to big yourself up rather than talking about the Wii U. Wii is more interested in deals than U.

It really makes me laugh when people say things like "I'm waiting for it to be £99". If you can only afford it at that price, that's fair enough and I wouldn't knock you, but if you're waiting for it to be £99 out of principle then you're nuts. I bought mine back in January last year for £225 and I've had a load of fun with it in that time. All you end up doing is losing out on the fun of having a new console for an entire year. It's not going to be £99 any time soon, so you'll probably end up losing out for at least two years.

Strong puns. I'm just pointing out my history in this field.

Although you'd think it wouldn't take a genius to wait for products that have bombed to have price cuts, the console market has a load of childish, touchy fanboys whereas the HP Touchpad, for example, didn't.

Nintendo always try and do something different and I guess the touchscreen may have seemed a good idea at the time but I agree they should have put more horse power under the hood instead. These fancy controllers will no doubt keep the price over £100 for a while as Ninty won't want to loose loads of money.

God everyone stop feeding that nobbing troll.

These same 'fans' scrounging around like flea-bitten vermin for a £99 price point are the same fans who would hack it and download games for free and with absolutely no remorse, help compromise Nintendo's business and hence their game quality standards - as well as people's livelihoods and their family's security.

The sort of 'fans' Nintendo could do without.

I'm sure someone enjoyed their $599.99 HP TouchPad. It doesn't mean that market analysts such as myself weren't saying "wait a minute, this HP Touchpad, which is clearly a load of crap compared to Android and Apple devices, is bombing. Unless you really want one now, it may be best to wait for the big price cuts that are surely coming."

I wonder if there were any hardcore HP fanboys who'd been staunch supporters of Hewlett Packard ever since they bought their first computer mouse back in 1994 who objected. Probably not.

Never hacked or downloaded console games in my life. I have no idea why you'd think everyone who wants the Wii U to reflect its value to them (as a console that you'll only ever play Nintendo exclusives on) is a pirate.

That depresses me that your 4 year old can play it so well and at 21 I find the game extremely hard haha.

Why do people say the Wii U is under powered ? It was designed to be extremely efficient. You don't need the PS4 or Xbone's power to make great games like Mario World 3, DK arctic blast or Mario Kart.

Because it's a console released in 2012 that isn't any more powerful than a console released in 2005, with a price tag that doesn't match.

I was reading an article on flipboard last night about how Nintendo is admitting the wiiu is a "flop" after underachieving for a third consecutive year even after substantial discounts. So it is reasonable to expect further discounting on the rrp and a discontinuation of the console sooner rather than later. Now, if it had been hacked like the wii was this would be selling by the bucktful, ensuring longevity. Its a funny old world.

Tried out the Wii U for the first time at Christmas at a friend's and it was fantastic with 4 people playing. It offers something that the PS4/XboxOne/my PC doesn't offer and that's a really good offline multiplayer experience with pretty much anyone (similar to the Wii then), but I think it's one of those things where, until you try it with a few people, it's difficult to describe. I've always enjoyed Nintendo games, but the last game I really enjoyed on the Wii was Zelda: TP and that was really a Gamecube title. I'd probably pick the Wii U up for around £150, so the price it is now seems pretty decent.

Third year? You've been watch too much Doctor Who. Not sure how them already selling the console at a loss - and it being hacked so people then don't buy games - would help anything! oO
