Real talk, this is a great price for a drink of this quality. I can just about understand why there are people snobbish about the basic Wild Turkey (they're wrong but I've made my peace with it) but the 101 is a smooth, sophisticated and lively tipple. At this price point basically nothing can touch it in terms of bourbon.

Quite mild when you've got Rare Breed, Blantons Straight from the Barrel, Jack Daniels Barrel Strength and Stagg Jnr in your collection.

Love this. Great deal.

Ordered. Always a decent low priced bourbon to have in the cabinet
The best Christmas preasant for a whisky lover. Completely eclipses Jack Daniels, Jim Beam and Woodford Reserve in my opinion that usually get deals posted at this price point.

Although they show what good value this is I think. Decent bourbon is so expensive in this country! Stagg Jnr one i’d like to try but looking at best part of £100 a bottle
£31 in my Tesco yesterday so good price for this
The daily goto drink for John Wayne.

You can pick up Stagg Jnr for less than a £100 a bottle (I paid 75 for mine), EH Taylor will be around the £100 mark here.

Stagg Jnr has ruined Wild Turkey rare breed for me.

And attempting to get the allocated Bourbons such as BTAC, forget it unless you are really well heeled.

Even Bourbon which were fairly inexpensive not too long ago like Weller Special Reserve or Evan Williams Single barrel are now pricey.

They tend to go a little bit further because you can add water that proofs them down slightly but can bring out more flavours in the bourbon

The basic WT is literally the same whisky as the 101 but watered down.

However there are drinkers who prefer the higher proof.

The 101 is much better all round. It's nice on its own but the option is there to add a bit of ice/water.

Its hard to even find a place that even has stock of the Stagg. Cheapest I can see is £85, but not looked everywhere admittedly

Got my Stagg Jnr ( Batch 12) from House of Malt for £85, just looked and its out of stock now.
Great price. 56p higher than the November 2019 sale.

Indeed it has gone from the place I ordered from and that was less than a month back.

Batch 14 should be reaching these stores shortly, I purchase a set with a dram in that happened to be batch 5 it was rather good.

I did read that the earlier batches were a bit harsh and not as good as the later ones, each to their own though.

This or Woodford reserve?

Both.

Let's say... You had to choose. Like choose or its death. Which one?

101.

I think the best value bourbon, I prefer Eagle rare and makers 46 but only just and this is much better value.

Woodford is a good drop but I'd take 101 any day.

Really didn't like wild turkey 81 though. Not sure if I had a bad bottle but it was like night and day with the 101. Want some rare breed but it's a bit rich when this is such good value.

Woodford only because it is a consistent return purchase and a fine daily drinker, for Wild Turkey it is rare breed although if I could buy Kentucky Spirit (even though they no longer use the classic bottle) it would be that.

I only wish that they would sell the Russell's reserve 10 year in the UK (At a decent price), same with Heaven Hill and Henry McKenna 10 year.

What's a good bourbon around the 50-60 quid mark in folks opinion? Have the well known ones like eagle rare 10 already, and the largely discussed here already, like Woodford, Buffalo Trace, WT101 and makers mark, that I rotate between drinking straight and old fashioneds, but feel it's time to step it up in quality.
If you like this then the Wild Turkey Rare Breed is a good step up. Four Roses Single Barrel. If you can get a 1792 Full Proof you'll be rocking Michters, Rowans Creek.....there's a very long list at that price point and not normally much need to go much over it.

If you've got a sweet tooth try the Ragtime Rye BIB.

The flavour at £23 for 101 is quite frankly almost impossible to beat
Edited by: "yimpster" 30th Sep
What do you like at present?

There won't be any BT products in that range, Stagg Jr/EH Taylor's all over that the only mash bill 2 in the UK is Blanton's not sure you will pick that up.

A WT product then Rare Breed, Woodford double oaked is fine and Marker's have a cask strength product or Booker's for a Beam product.

Keep clear of the Evan Williams single barrel was fine at 23-30 pounds, the 45+ it is now not worth it same is true of Elijah Craig.

+1 on the Four Roses Single Barrel
Not a fan of Michters
1792 might be a stretch to find in that price range

I don't believe it is a blend, however it cannot be classified as single barrel as they don't clean the bottling plant between barrels (they did in the past, and you can still buy stocks of single barrel I suspect US store picks will be single barrel).

Any barrels that are duff will go into BT or Benchmark.

Noah's Mill is a good shout, £71 for a 75cl bottle at masterofmalt. 57%. You may be able to get it cheaper though, think I paid £55.

"Noah's Mill is an outstanding old small batch bourbon, containing whiskeys between 4 and 20 years old. Quite rare this, and very enjoyable in an old-fashioned."

Also Bookers Bourbon 63% at around £60

"Booker Noe first released his signature bourbon in 1992. Using 200 year old traditional methods, this is bottled straight from the barrel without adding anything and is unfiltered. Aged for at least six years, it has notes of vanilla and mocha."

Eagle rare and Woodford reserve are my two favourites, I find eagle rare a step up.

I'm enjoying this forum, good to hear recommendations and bourbon chat.
