Possibly one the most harmless things around (certainly more harmless than poison powder), remove the food source they will leave under their own steam. I am working from the point this is for ants in kitchens. If they are outside then why bother they actually do a good job.

Dont get how and why they keep coming in

They've probably got their own key cut and come in because it's nice & warm and they can watch a bit of telly

Completely agree with you. We live in an era where the big companies, likes of unilever, p&g who will give you products which will claim to kill 99.99% of bacteria good or bad ((99% are good) which they find under their microscope. As a result we have less immunity these days.

Not sure 99%are good, but very sure ants are harmless and are actually good for the environment and are a crucial part of the food chain/ ecosystem. And this junk does eventually gets into the water table, so to those who buy it enjoy

Have to disagree with you ants are awful if they get in the house there can be lots of them and they get everywhere.

I can definitely understand people wanting to put powder down to prevent them entering. This is a great price

I know you don’t have to use chemicals the best thing to use is icing sugar and bicarbonate soda to poison the ants but it’s harmless to pets and kids.

You can get powder and sprays.

Google woodlice killer

I think they attracted to damp. Is the house dam?

Of course it is so much easier to pay 40p and throw poison around the kitchen (hey it was dirty to start with the only reason they showed up).
I am Just stating a fact remove the food source ie clean the place they will leave. They only get wherever they find a food source not everywhere, so very simple clean up, bag up, and they will leave. But why am I bothering poison at 40p is obviously better than cleaning up and buying a few freezer bags for anything sweet. Probably got in there in the first place because of a sugar tin bought at wilkos that has a crappy seal on it

Only been around 100 million years or so, but hey lets get rid for no apparent reason than eeww , again remove the source, in this case moisture they will go, throw as much poison as you like they will still return. Also another vital part of the ecosystem they are a part of. Flogging a dead horse i know so will leave you to it.

Use diatomaceous earth FOOD GRADE . It's mechanical not chemical kills all insects, doesn't harm inquisitive pets or children. Since discovering this, any powder is history. Not as cheap as 40p but you don't need to worry about who/what might ingest it, apart from bees. Eat some yourself it's good for hair and nails apparently....

All sorts of ways and reasons and yes... damp is a factor.
If your brickwork pointing is poor externally they may be coming in through the brickwork and wall cavity. Also slugs too if the brickwork is bad.
Could check you external doors and see if you have any gaps anywhere around the frame etc.

Mr Gove tried to ban them but the ban was lifted by a court before being implemented iirc. Try independent pound shops.
I do get alot of condensation on the windows i have them open all the time and still the same on all windows in the houe

I totally agree cleanliness is important with ants, leave a drop of anything sweet and the little buggers will have a field day.

I honest feel some properties are more prone to them than others. I never had issues until I moved in my current property which is much older than anywhere I have lived previously. I think there’s so many tiny cracks for them to sneak in. My neighbours in the adjoining house have the same issue.

Thankfully I got the upper hand this year using ant powder early around the outside of the property and not a single invasion this year.

I’m sorry if you feel this makes me a bad person for poisoning them when they are harmless.

It might be worth investing in a dehumidifier as leaving the windows open doesn’t help with condensation when the temperature is cold outside.

If the house becomes damp you will find you have other issues like black mould which can be harmful.

Just something to think about.
Leave the insects alone. As already stated remove the food source.

The conventional stuff is possibly the worst thing you can put in your garden. Most likely responsible for loss of hedgehogs, birds, and it also costs a lot to remove from the water supply so increases everyone’s water bills.
Packets of seeds 30p each at West Quay retail park. 4 left as of yesterday (reduced section at point of sales)
