Be grateful you didnt ... it was a lot worse than the original and not one of Burton's best. Yet oddly I liked his Alice In Wonderland despite the crap reviews. BUT I never liked this film .. it was an odd mix of old and new(er) footage for me. And the ending seemed abrupt and plain out of place. WIllie Wonka was clearly high on something and those kids meeting the fates they did means that Social Services were lamentably found wanting throughout! Seriously though I always found the whole thing a tad unsettling and threatening rather than enjoyable. But then again I thought Pee Wee's Big Adventure was cinema gold! (_;)

This original is far better than the remake.

I can't imagine the original master tapes being in good condition, and the transfer being up to scratch.

If anyone has watching this blu-ray, please comment of the video quality.

For a 38-year old film this 1.78 Blu-ray transfer is impressive. I doubt … For a 38-year old film this 1.78 Blu-ray transfer is impressive. I doubt this niche classic will be looking any better than it does now in 1080P - and that is fine as the presentation is an enjoyable one with brightly-colored candy that makes your mouth water.

From here

Tim Burton is turning into M. Night shyamalan.

Sounds like they did a good job on this one. Just wish the same could be said for a few other older "classics" Ive seen in 1080p

Looking at the images supplied on that site it don't look so great.

Oh bollocky **** thawt it was the horrid remake please forget my first comment, heat added!!!! LOL
(_;)

Every classic film I've bought on Blu-ray seems to be the same quality as the DVD versions, will give this one a miss.

I LOVE this film!! Love it!
I hate the new one though - Charlie didn't have a father -what was that all about - that's the whole reason he went with his grandad and why they were so poor. Burton ruined it. I believe the only thing true to Dahl's book that wasn't in this original movie from the 70's was the squirrels - but back in the 70's they didn't have the same special effects and found it was nigh on impossible to train them, so switched the idea for golden geese!
I shall be buying this (apologies to my bank manager!!)
