Hello, My dad went to B&Q and found this. It feels rather solid for £1.

This was B&Q Stockton.

Bright enough to dazzle.

Anticipation of this joke being made was the only reason i bothered to post the deal. So thank you.

heading to my local b n q in my lunch time tomorrow.....hope they do have some in stock....
thanks for a useful post.

Also 89p in B&M stores!

these things are ok for an emergency I guess, but really they are pretty crap. They just dont give out enough light for long enough.

I have one, I left in on all night to see how long it would last - still working in the morning and after a minutes 'wind up' it was as good as new. The three LEDs are as bright as the average torch. I bought it from Home Bargains, went to buy another for my parents and they were sold out in any store I tried. - Great Buy IMHO.

I think you have been duped. The only reason it was still working in the morning is that these things contain non-rechargeable batteries. They last long enough for people not to bother to take them back when the batteries go flat and they become next to useless. I don't know why there hasn't been a big scandal about these things, because they are scandalous.

These were on the same offer in B&Q at Durham. They also had the lanterns for £6, the bike sets for £4, and the solar/wind-up combos for £1. As for the comment about them containing non-rechargeable batteries, once drained a quick spin on the charger leaves the light running for several minutes, so just because some makes are dodgy doesn't mean they all are.

Good - I'm glad to hear it, because all the ones I've seen have been dodgy. I am particularly suspicious about the comment that the torch lasted all night.

If only this could be used as a keyring.

I've gone to the bother of taking this thing apart, which took forever. I'll post the picture of the insides later. Didn't dare take it apart full because of all the cogs etc.

To my eyes i couldn't see a battery, there appeared to be a large green capacitor but not a battery. I couldn't say 100% there wasn't a battery but if there was it was small, like a watch battery.

It has a similar arrangement to mobile phones where you can attach a string to it but i wouldn't put it on a keyring as it is a bit too big for that.

Well done for that. In my experience the fake ones contain those large lithium coin cells (2p-sized). If it's genuinely got a supercapacitor in it then that's good, but I think it's more likely to have probably three small NiMH cells in series. You should be able to see that the green lump is divided into three. If it's a capacitor it should have its value marked on it.

I've taken it apart again. lol The Green thing does have 3 lumps so looks like 3 Cells. My dad thinks that this is necessary... but that taking apart the torch he bought me yesterday isn't.
