I bought an OEM key from Amazon for Windows 7 a few years ago for about the same price which enabled me to upgrade to W10 for free and I haven't had any hassle with it at all, so heat for this from me at least.

As long as it's an OEM key and not a MSDN key it should be fine. Good find.

Windows 10 home costs around £85 and pro version somewhere in the region of £150. I've never heard SCDkey before and after doing numerous hours of research I would be very wary over buying a copy of windows 10 that is not verifiably legit

So - software that is £80 OEM and £150 Retail is available legitimately for £14 from some dodgy website?
Come on people, wake up. If you don't want to pay for your software then go pirate it yourself. Don't pay someone else to supply you with unlicensed software.

Those prices are for retail copies, these are OEM copies.

They've been approved and posted a couple of times, seem legit.

I've read enough reports about windows keys being revoked after several months to be wary. Possibly people selling volume licenses? Would these keys fall into that bracket? Also, does M$ still restrict OEM keys to a single PC? (ie you can't swap out motherboard with a OEM key as it's regarded as a new system by M$)?

ALL Windows 10 keys are now restricted to the motherboard they're first used on. This way if you reformat you just need to reload Windows and not have to use a key again.

Oh yeah, totally legit ..... it might well work but am very doubtful it's legit and adheres to Microsoft's licence agreement*. Before you all get angry and tell me that MS are zillionaires and Bill Gates has more money than God** please note that I don't actually care if you choose to buy this or not, just putting out my own thoughts on the legitamacy of these keys.

*You are entitled to not care about MS licence agreements and terms, I don't.

They're not always legit though. I bought one a while back in one of the previous deals from here. It was a VLK and not OEM.
You can check via: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/49586-windows-license-type-determine-if-oem-retail-volume.html

You can only do this once you have the actual key though. Just because they say it's OEM doesn't mean it is.

I have bought an oem key, even upgraded
my motherboard and contacted ms, who once I verified my cd key switches the license over to the new board

Obviously, but I guess I'm of the 'Take the retailers word till I have reason to suspect otherwise' school. Perhaps a bit naive.

Why not if you have win7 ?

Why not if you have win7 ?

Some people consider Win7 to be superior to Win10. Not least because Microsoft scrape a massive amount of personal data, as well as personal usage information, in Windows 10 in addition to forcing you to accept updates and using your machine to distribute updates to other computers. They also are steering people heavily towards their walled-garden store. So basically it's slicker, but hugely anti-consumer more than ever.. even for Microsoft.

You can turn a lot of this off, but most people won't even know it's happening.

Cos Windows 7 is better. No need to upgrade.

Windows 10 is now tied to your user account (digital licence) so it doesn't matter if you change your motherboard or anything. As long as you log in with the user account that you first registered it with you can install it again with a licence key..as long as you sign in with your user account.

What can Windows 10 do that Windows 7 can't? Windows 7 is a perfectly competent OS, so much so that many businesses have refused to upgrade to 10, let alone 8 when it was around...

Just two weeks ago did a full clean wipe and reinstall of Win10 home on someone's laptop which originally came with Win8. I didn't have to activate it, all I had to do was click the "I don't have a product key" during the install, and it activated itself once it completed the installation. I was a little surprised but pleased.

Note: This can't be used to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro, you would have to do a clean install.

Multiple virtual desktops
Cortana
Stream Xbox one games
It's faster
It's more secure
It has a better web browser
It will be supported by Microsoft for longer
It works better with a touch interface
It supports Direct X 12
It integrates with your Microsoft account
Free OneDrive storage

If "businesses have refused to upgrade to 10" it is overwhelmingly likely that they either need to stay on 7 as they are running legacy software, or they haven't upgraded because they don't yet need (they don't get a free upgrade like home users, I expect).

Wrong. It's because Windows 10 doesn't offer them a valid reason to upgrade at a substantial cost.

I don't think it is linked to your Windows Live user account, I reinstalled a PC and logged on as a local user and it activated just fine.
Seems like MS check for the PC/motherboard info and then re-activate the "Digital Entitlement" irrespective of the logged on/active user

Oh dear...- Windows has actually had API support for virtual desktops … Oh dear...- Windows has actually had API support for virtual desktops since Windows NT 4 and Windows 7 has it built-in. There was just no user interface around it.- Cortana is not a benefit but a hindrance.- Stream XBox One games? Are you 12?- The performance difference is truly negligible- Better web broswer? Sane people use Chrome.- I don't care if it's not supported. Just because you have decided that you don't want the features doesn't make it better.
My nokia 3210 made phone calls and sent texts, does that make it a better phone than an iPhone 7 because I'm not likely to use apps?
A large percentage of the oil and gas industry is still running on Windows XP because of the associated costs of upgrading the API to work with future versions of Windows. Does that mean that XP is better than Windows 7?
Your arguments have no note whatsoever.

There's no doubt windows 7 is an excellent os. I'm sure windows 10 is too and 8 too. my personal preference is 7. In my view 8/10 are suited to touch screens and tablets but not old school power users/admins/techy types/programmers since the crappie interface just gets in the way. mind you I felt the same when I originally went from windows 3.1 to win 95 and so on, eventually well get over it and loathe the next new thing they force upon us
