Seems hot to me... Normal windows 8 is £99!
Just saw this on PC Pro - hot price if you want to start using Windows 8. Big 'if' from what I've heard!
Voted hot for the price but windows 8 is a nightmare just deleted it off myself and went back to a dodgy version of windows 7 even though ive got the paid for version of windows 8, I think that should say it all
Great price considering you're getting a much faster Windows 7 for half the price. People are being too harsh on this OS because of the interface, which I admit doesn't quite work with a mouse but man it is a beauty with touch, makes me wish my monitor was touch enabled. If you don't like the 'Metro' interface you don't have to use it, you can still use the old desktop, but don't let that put you off as underneath it is was faster, more efficient and smoother version of windows 7.
good find
I've been using W8 for a while. I really do not understand why people hate it so much, other than an unwillingness to learn. If you have W7 and you like it, then stick with it. If you need a new OS, grab W8 at this price, it is great value.

A couple of bits of software seem to fix all the problems people have:
Classic Shell makes it into W7 (pretty much)
Obly tile allows you to fully customise the new new UI which means you can avoid using software to make it more like W7.

It is a great OS either way and I seriously think the haters are misguided.

Hot, but only just. Its £48 at Amazon and the same at many other places. Windows 8 Pro hasn't been £99 since launch
Worth noting this is an upgrade:

To install Windows 8 Pro, customers must be running Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, or Windows 8 Release Preview.

Yes - I picked up 2x for average £7.50 each on the upgrade offers (1 free and the other £14.99).

I figure if you wait a bit, you'll find another £14.99 upgrade offer round the corner.

No you don't, I did a fresh install with mine. It's well documented online how to do it and it's very simple

"How to Do a Clean Install of Windows 8 with an Upgrade Disc"
If you do that it's not much different to getting hold of a hacked/ pirated copy then.

Thought this site was meant to be about legitimate deals not how to rip off brand owners.
A decent price for a really good version of windows (can't believe I wrote that) though the tablet interface is superfluous and readily bypassed. I ordered the upgrade when it was £15 but the download was the full version and I loaded it onto a formatted hard disk without requiring an earlier version to be present - think it was required at purchase though.

Worth noting that, with a free download from microsoft, and virtualbox, you can run a virtual xp machine for any legacy programs or hardware eg my umax scanner has no driver software for vista upwards.

A quirk of how microsoft did the initial offer gave me two licences for £15 so I can confirm it Win8pro 64bit breathes new life into a relatively vintage dell m1330.

I'm not saying W8 is bad but I have a few gripes... If like me you're using mostly applications that run on the traditional desktop (e.g. Office with full macro capabilities, image manipulation software, a bit of Calibre and MP3Tag, to name a few) most of the time, then the touch-tiled interface really gets in the way, even with a touchscreen.

Quite why Microsoft didn't allow users to make the old desktop the default interface and did away with the Start menu is simply beyond me. I wouldn't downgrade to W7 but I strongly recommend you think twice before you upgrade to W8.

Still, regardless of my experience, this is a good deal so voted hot.

I know I mentioned Classic Shell Earlier, but have you tried Start8? It is only $4 and it makes all of this perfect. You can boot to desktop if you wish. You can change the function of the windows keys (I have my Right Windows Key open the old start menu and the Left Windows key open the new Metro screen.

It really does make W8 a pleasure to use. I ended up getting a few other bits of software from the same company (Stardock)

The one tool EVERYONE needs with W8 though is Obly Tile. It really is a very useful piece of software, and it is FREE (which is my favourite price)

I love windows 8 on my desktop. Its fresh, colourful, fast and a delight to use now it all works properly. No more third party virus software, nice bit of music on the Xbox screen which is free for most of the time. Beautiful HD wallpapers that I update everyday and instant updating on Sport, weather, news etc.
Everyone will be using this shortly and those who don't are the old school diehards. I have gone through DOS, Windows 3.11 and all the way up to 8 and I say open your eyes the future is here (_;)

Of course any software can be used without paying for it, but there are always situations where you may, have put a new HDD in or reformatted your current one that had a legit M$ OS on it originally and this is the only one way to upgrade.

Not everyone knows how to recover or store there activation keys etc....before removing legit owned OS's and the 'link' is a good easy way to restore your working PC without any messing, you'll never stop people who don't want to pay but for those that do, this is an easy upgrade option.

It's nothing like a pirated copy; you are buying a genuine key.

Correct. What a completely stupid statement! How can it be a pirate (or similar) when you are paying Microsoft for the key? I did the same thing and it was really easy to do - and Microsoft seem happy to do all the updates etc.

Less of that. I have Windows 7 Pro, and changed to Windows 8 Pro. You cannot upgrade that way so even Microsoft say it needs a clean install so thats what i did.

Dont assume that everyones a scrote thank you:(

Did you try Classic Shell?
I really don't like the metro interface but once installed Classic Shell makes it a very good OS
If you have a copy of the Win8 pre release hanging round you may be able to upgrade from that to save your old licence.
It worked for me a week after the pure release expired.
Just a quick heads up, think it was £40 a week or two ago.
Does this get 30% off on Quidco? What's iWin 8?
HAte Windows 8 and seen cheaper so cold from me, sorry OP
Bought the upgrade licence from XP to Win 8.
All I can say is I gave it a chance

So glad I left my desktop on 7.
Fantastic price for a non upgrade edition. Heat added, thanks OP!

I agree, it's a class OS.
Windows 8 dared to be different with the UI and it got panned unfairly but the underhood improvements make it an essential upgrade. Personally love it to bits..
I would not get this if you're using a laptop with a dual graphics solution. I have the 5560g Acer and there is no way to get the 7670m working with 8, I'm back on 7. Thankfully I got it for 14.99 and can upgrade again whenever I want (when there are more drivers), I would progress with caution...............

why should you have to buy the next gen of OS and use software to make it more like the last one, just buy W7

When you do a fresh install and use this registry trick can you just put in the supplied Win 8 key and then use it? Or do you still need to put in a key from a previous version of Windows then the Win 8 key?

If you put in a Win 7 key and then the Win 8 key, can I still use that Windows 7 again? (i.e is it just to check you bought win 7 before, or does it "upgrade" the win 7 key to win 8 permanenty)
Do I need a prexisting verison of Windows for this to work or can I straight up install this?

(wanting this for Boot Camp on Mac)

Thanks x
Good value for those who like their operating system to look like they're meant for people still using crayons...
