Cheap is often not nasty.
E.G. Toro Loco (Aldi) is award winning in blind taste tests & less than £4 a bottle.

Funny how ones taste improves when ones see the £ signs... the more expensive it is the better it must taste
That's not to dismiss all expensive wines some actually are great...but Aldi Lidl sell some excellent wines

good find op, heat added

Both Aldi and Lidl have fast became known for sourcing generally better quality wines than the big supermarkets.

I would happily put that Claret against any supermarket Claret in a blind test and fully expect it to do well - and the Chardonay's are also as good as most.

Also, happy to recommend the Ripasso in Aldi (£7.99), or the Amarone in Lidl (£12.49) - not particularly cheap, but dashed nice.

Nevertheless, it seems Lidl are now starting to cater for every type of customer, and if you insist on judging a wine by it's price Lidl do have a particularly disappointing Barolo at £9.99.

I went to lidl today to pick up a few bottles of South African cabernet sauvignon but they had totally sold out, in fact a lot of wines had sold out - hopefully making way for new stock tomorrow??

Any decent Sauvignon Blancs at Aldi or Lidl that you recommend? My kiwi ones are getting more and more expensive in Asda and Tesco

The Andara Chilean sauvignon blanc at Aldi punches well above it's weight at £3.89. IMO it's an excellent drop - if you don't like it, you've only wasted < £4.

Aldi do a very nice French one for around £4.50 - not as good as Kiwi (which they also do) but better than most other new world ones (Chile usually the exception).

two weeks off with the family......now I can get w#nkered to help me through it

The claret at £2.99 is good. Well worth buying a box or 2. Don't listen to the wine snobs on here. We all have different tastes. Merry Christmas and bottoms up!

hot , thanks OP. is it just for one day? as will pop into lidl friday x thanks

I think its one day only. The leaflet is showing "19 December" but not "from the 19 December" if you know what I mean.

Many thanks to OP. Made a special trip to Lidl Swindon Barnfield store this morning and managed to get one of each on the list ( + a few extras of the claret !) all at £2.99/bottle. Xmas wine sorted Cheers!

I am glad it helped. Merry Christmas!

Grabbed a few Riesling and 2 bottles of Cepe Lebrel Rioja Reserva while I was there.

it's appeared that Claret was the most popular wine to get on that day!

Update - just been to Lidl again and this wine's offer is still on if anyone is interested.
