....does anyone still rip DVD's ?
Paid for this software about 7 years ago, was well worth it for me as get all the upgrades and support from them. Starting to get to the stage now that I don't use it as much. But was great in the old days of Love Film rentals.....
Be aware the giveaway version is less fully featured than the purchased version: winxdvd.com/spe…ake

Surely not but got through loads of discs back in the day.
I have a bunch of dvds that I want to get rid of but first put on Plex. This came in really handy. Only problem is apparently (this isn't something I've ever done before, so have no experience) HEVC 265 is the one to have, as far as I can tell this only does 264. Anybody know of a free way to get 265?
Cheers OP

It's funny you ask, came across a dvd copying pc the other day (didn't buy it for obvious reasons) but you stick a master dvd in and it'll rip and burn it to 8 blanks at once haha

The simplest way would be to use one of the DVD Backup Profiles main title/full title to just rip the video, then use something like Handbrake to convert it to H265 or anything else.

H265 can output similar quality to H264 at the expense of encoding speed but with a smaller file size. If disk space isn't a major concern to you, go with H264.

i think with all the streaming services this is old hat really. You can get so many genuine like new copies of every film at Poundland or similar or most of the time everything can be streamed for free on line. Cant see why anyone would want to copy, unless its a rare DVD they own and they want a back up......which is the "legit" reason they used to sell this software back in its hay day.

they're called dvd duplicators but not just related to dvd you could do CDs too and can even get USB drive duplicators. these come in a Ray of different drive amounts and can even handle bluray some id say more aimed at those little stores who actually still offer VHS to dvd ect conversions as a customer may want afew made of one for family obviously not as popular no more compared to the past.
Any good 4k uhd blu ray rippers going around ... Possibly free
What's a DVD ?

Bit torrent?

Quite. If you own it and feel you are entitled to a rip why wouldn't you just download it from bit torrent? The vast majority of decent films are out there.
Will it do my old Betamax movies?

I have a bunch of relatively obscure stuff that I haven't been able to find with many seeders, it makes more sense to just rip the them and then put them on Plex. Winx and Handbrake have worked really well.
Limited features on the giveaway version, including missing copy protection ripping.
Good for some Windows discs.
LoveFilm long gone!

Seeing as this has got pretty hot, I would say the answer to your question is most certainly.
Some like to have that physical copy. That's when you truly know you own something.
Tips [IMPORTANT!]
1. The license code should be activated before October 17, 2019
2. The code is for personal use only. Please DO NOT disclose it to the internet.
3. The version you get is a Giveaway Version which will not support update.

But kindly note the full version and license key will become invalid in the following conditions:
- you reinstall your system
- you reformat your partition where the software is located
- you activate the key after October 17, 2019
Kodi
I need to do the reverse. I have an MP4 which I want to put on DVD for a friend. Which software would do this? (free preferably)

According to my Facebook Marketplace, I can buy ripped new DVD’s for £2 each and the movies are still in Cinema... bargain! (I refuse to do any of it though)
If this doesn't support copyright protection removing, and if you format your computer you can't reinstall it using the code, can anyone recommend something else that's free?

I have some purchased DVD's that I'd like to just have on my laptop without a DVD drive thanks.

MakeMKV will let you dump your DVD or Blu-ray to an MKV which VLC or any other popular video player will happily play.

VidCoder will let you encode your ripped DVD / Blu-ray to x264 or x265 if you desire to save hard drive space.

I'd use these over Winx personally.

This does support copyright protection removal but it's a bit coy about what works and what doesn't. The comparison chart with the full version says it doesn't rip "newly released" DVDs, whatever that means.

For what it's worth, I don't have any DVDs released this year but any disks older than that have ripped perfectly fine with this softtware.

Personally I use MakeMKV first and on the occasions that doesn't work properly (and that happens more than I'd like), I rip with this.
