In my opinion it's probably not worth being born. Death is painful, horrid …In my opinion it's probably not worth being born. Death is painful, horrid and it's better to be never be born than to experience. Imagine that.... Holding your breath now but not being able to take another breath like it will be like in death, drowning. Or going yellow as your liver and kidneys fail. Choking up blood and so on. The even crazier thing is the more you put into life, the more you actually lose so the harder it is to accept the incoming death. If you sat between 4 walls all your life doing nothing at all, then it's easier to say bye to life than it is if you have built more of one. I'd rather have never been born than experience death for the price of being alive..... It just isn't worth it, there's more to lose. Can you remember what it was like before you were born? No? Well if it had stayed that way and you were never born then it would have remained like that. Instead you've got to go through pain and suffering one day when you die.

If you don't believe in an afterlife then it's pointless to have lived as you say.

No matter how hard you work nothing will go with you and your worldly goods will be left for your inheritors or the government to fight over.
Some people lie, cheat and steal all the way to their last moments knowing that they're going to die any day/minute and they can't take anything with them but they still do it.
As painful as death can be... If you arrive at your last breath knowing that you have made a positive impact on people's lives (parents, children, neighbors, friends, etc) then it will be a lot more bearable.
If all you've ever done is cheat lie and hurt people then when your life flashes before you in the last moments it will probably be all regret and sorrow but it will be too late.
Bottom line ....treat others like you'd like to be treated and you will have a better death.
Death is inevitable... Not maybe/possible so think about it often so it stops you treating others badly for the sake of worldly gain that is never yours to keep.

Excellent timing Amazon.
Unfortunately death will not be surrounded by ones relatives now.
Spoiler alert.......they die in the end....

It's just the reality sadly. Never being born, not knowing any different, being at "peace" as such forever. Or being born, then in agonising pain one day knowing it's the end, not long left. Having to say bye to loved ones, feeling everything stop.

Apparently depending on how it happens, the brain doesn't die right away. So the body is gone and yet there's still some conciousness knowing what's happened and that's the end.

You can't avoid fate and the shocker is it can happen when you really don't expect it. Popping out to the local shop to get the bread, but never returning home.

I'm not trying to frighten anyone of course. It's just what we all know will happen anyway

Sounds like you have a lot experience in death. Living with all this knowledge everyday must be so difficult.

Some deaths are painful, others aren't. You normally don't get to choose, unfortunately. I always thought suicide was very selfish especially if you've got children but then again, who can call you selfish when every day seems unbearable and/or pointless? I'm in no position to offer advice but it does/ can get better. Don't give up just yet.
Ps. My husband's uncle died during a football match of his favourite team. The cousin who took him to it thought he just nodded off. He was 92. What a way to go!
Don't go into the light
I'm just speaking the truth, not as someone being depressed or anything like that.

There's a lot of uncertainty about death and how it will happen but what's for sure is there's a lot of painful ways to go. Everyone wants to go in their sleep but it doesn't always happen like that, although would be great if it did.

I've seen death in people and it's horrendous. Complete suffering, eyes rolling back, screaming, turning yellow and losing half their body weight in less than a week.

Even though in that sense, it's possibly better to have never been born, none of us have that option now. We are all alive, hopefully for many years to come and when the end happens, without any pain or suffering and perhaps being at peace with it.

Enjoy today and every day but I think at times it's ok to reflect on the situation of life.
Excellent book
Paying 99p to read about death...think I’ll stick to the free sample and move on.

A philosopher. Thank you for your ideas., But surely it is like love and better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?
Blame the science...

Morphine. You will most likely be high as a kite at the end so not worth worrying about mate. Just enjoy your life.

That depends. If you were never born then you wouldn't be aware of the good happy things in life and thus wouldn't miss them. While being alive and conscience means you have those experiences but also the loss surrounding them.

A bit like if someone goes through life never having any experience of pizza. They wouldn't know what they are missing out on having never had that experience. Then one day they try it and really enjoy it. That then goes from something they were none the wiser about and it didn't matter to them to something they would really miss if they could never enjoy again.

Things only become important when you have experiences of them or at least have the chance to. Over time we experience many things that we will miss when we can never experience again.

Very true (depending on weather it happens in hospital or not), but then there's the things that aren't pain related. Never being able to have a pizza again, a beer, log into HUKD's, etc.

Had we never had those experiences (such as by never being born), we'd never be able to miss them.

With that being said though, like I put, we all have been born so although it would have been better perhaps to have never been born, it's not an option so indeed we should all enjoy living to the max.

Indeed Epicurus argued for pleasure, and not to worry about death as the thought of it is one of the primary drivers of discontent. However contemplating death can lead to people changing the direction of their lives; which must be a good thing.
