Bruce Robinson's semi-autobiographical account of his early years as an actor has become a cult hit of massive proportions, inspiring countless numbers of young men and women to quote stars Paul McGann and Richard E. Grant and their booze-soaked dialogue. The story follows these two unemployed actors in 1969 London, as they take a holiday in the country. Trapped inside a dank, empty cabin with each other, an endless downpour of heavy rain battering their roof, the two men form a complicated bond fuelled by booze, disaster, and nihilism. Though not much happens in terms of plot, WITHNAIL AND I is one of the most subtly hilarious films to come out of 1980s.

Thanks, ordered with The Goonies, looking forward to seeing them in HD.

I don't believe this will be any higher quality a reproduction than the DVD.

Blu-ray will have a hard time becoming established, even at these prices, as new commissions are cut, budgets tightened, and disposable income falls. I remember in 2003 when the new Star Wars came to the cinema, on 25 DVD's and Blu-Ray was fighting HD-DVD. Older films seldom maintain such high definition archives.

The code is one use per customer. I will certainly be considering newer DVD's, though the HMV customer reviewing this reckons it's truly high def. Thanks OP.

The review of the transfer reminds me of my first impressions when I watched it on TV, namely: "this format has so much more potential- the film must have been shot on a budget". I think "The Cottage" brings many of the concepts of this film into the 21st century.
