Wizz Air flights London-Luton to Athens Return in May from £21. (Use in conjuction with WizzTours 50 Euro Discount Code if book flights and hotels)

Since the demise of Monarch Airlines, Wizz AIr has purchased a number of landing/take-off slots from the bankrupt airline and will be basing up to seven aircraft at the airport this Summer and means they have launched a whole host of new routes and increased frequencies on others...

Many of the new routes are not just to their bread and butter counties in Central Europe, they now fly to Tel-Aviv, Larnaca, Split, Bari, Reykjavik and Athens. Think there is now like 60-70 flights a day just by Wizz alone at Luton...

Athens is one of the new routes to be launched from the end of April, and was having a look through the booking engine and there are flights a whole host of flights in May for under £40 and on select dates can get this down to £26.

Could be ideal as its the start of the summer season and Athens is good starting point to travel to the quieter islands without an airport, and hear Athens is a pretty cool city too!

Also if you go to WizzTours and book the flights and hotels together for a minimum of three nights, you are entitled to a 50 Euro discount per booking, using code EUROPE50. The prices for the flights on WizzTours will be the same as Wizz Air's website.
The code works for single travellers and groups, but is only one discount per booking.
Wizz Tours Website
(If you are booking more than one room in the hotel, make separate bookings for each room and use the code each time to get the 50 Euro Discount!)

Dates with cheapest flights:
LTH-ATH
£10.49 - 30/04 and 13/05
£15.49 - 29/04 and 16/05
£17.49 - 01/05
£19.49 - 07/05, 08/05, 09/05, 10/05 and 15/05

ATH-LTN
£10.49 - 30/04, 02/05 and 03/05
£15.49 - 23/05 and 24/05
£17.49 - 01/05
£19.49 - 17/05 and 25/05

Plenty for £25-35ish too in both directions!
(Don't moan if the flights go up, that's the nature of the airline business!)

Not bad for a four hour flight, if these dates can fit in with you!

If you can travel on the dates where the flights are rock bottom, you can easily get hotel and flights together with the WizzTours promotion for £80-90 each for a two or around £115 for a single person.

Luton Airport and Wizz Air to some are a little like Marmite...

It's my local airport and convenient... Also things are dramatically improving, only took 10 mins from getting off the rail-link bus to clearing security and been in departures, and that was in the morning rush when all the easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz, Vueling and TUI flights are departing on their first flight of the day.
I usually only head to security about an hour before take-off, just get a drink in Pret and head straight to the boarding gate.
Also from landing and if you don't have hold luggage, I am on the bus in 10mins to the car park or railway station, especially now Border Force have added more automatic gates.

I find Wizz no better or worse than easyJet or Ryanair, you pay for everything...

They have recently dropped their charge for larger cabin baggage, and can now take a carry-on suitcase up to 10kg for free like the other low cost airlines. If you want to select a seat, check-in hold luggage, have priority boarding, extra leg room or food, be prepared to pay for it, but I'm the tight kind of traveller that airlines hate!

They have recently introduced the new 230 seater A321's and these seem more roomier, with more room to walk around, bigger seats and more legroom. I think it is due to the new slimline seats. The crew are usually very pleasant and never been more than 30 minutes late.

TIP
If you check in around four hours before departure using the app, and happy to sit wherever allocated, you have quite a high chance of getting an extra leg room seat, as travellers are unwilling to pay the high prices for these seats.
The way this works is, because nearly every flight I go on with Wizz is 95-100% full, and the earlier people checked-in are allocated the bog standard seats. But as the seats are allocated and the plane fills up it only leave the seats by the emergency exits to be allocated and the airline is forced to allocate them to the late check passengers and cannot charge for them if no other free seats are available.
Just remember on-line/app check-in closes three hours before departure, otherwise you'll have to pay to check-in at the airport.

After visiting Athens, you don't need to head to the islands to find beautiful beaches. Some of the best beaches, areas of outstanding natural beauty and sleepy villages in Greece can be found on the mainland within 2 hrs of drive from Athens. They tend to mainly cater for Greek tourists with a more authentic Greek environment / food / etc. Prices are considerably cheaper and much more welcoming than some of the tourist traps on the islands.

Cool, where exactly?

As mentioned in Bobbins comment above, southern Peloponnese is an absolute gem. Not only pristine beaches, but ideal for hiking, sight seeing and all sort of activity holiday. To get the most, you really need a car (quite cheap to hire from Athens airport outside peak periods)
Take a look and if its something that interest you, PM me & I can give you more specific places to stay / visit in this region.

Just done a test booking now and there is NO fees!

If you don't select an allocated seat, choose online check-in, only take hand luggage, avoid priority board and not take out their insurance, the price is just the ticket price, as you choose when selecting the date you want to travel.

There is NO fee for credit card and that is now illegal under EU law.
(How dare I mention those two letters E U !)

The Admin fee is part of the quoted ticket price when you select the date and time you want to travel...

It just breaks it down what the fare is made up of.

Come on, the final price is the one that's quoted at the beginning. There's no admin fee added on top nor other fees... stop being a child...
Been there, it’s an absolute dump, going to Athens would be great though

Have some heat.
Swizz Air and Ryanair will find more ways to extract more dosh out of you.

Admin fees ???? We are not ringing up a booking clerk to process this transaction, It's all online !!!!!!!

Did they do this a few years ago? Of course they didn't,

It's like the Amazon market place sellers the product is £1.99 plus £7.99 shipping
Even when you spell out the obvious, some people still can't see it. There might be an admin fee, but that's part of the original price you're quoted, not additional. If you don't want to fly with them then don't, but don't make out that the price they give you is misleading. Some people just want a reason to whinge.
Booked last night
3 nights at Royal Olympic hotel
29-04 to 02-05
£460
BARGAIN
Flights and 3 nights at a 5* in the heart of Athens & breakfast just £230 per person!

It’s not the same. Your living in a era when air fair it’s he cheapest it’s ever been. Stop moaning about a £30 return flight.

Yes strange fees are present. Just be wary and watch out.

Absolutely agree. Been visiting the Peloponnese for years which is the other side of the Corinth canal, and a new motorway whisks you to Kalamate in 3 hours. Fantastic beaches; Pylos, Finikounda, Methoni, Stoupa. Great culture; Olympia, Mystras, Mycenae. Beautiful scenery; Taygetos mountains, The Mani, Monemvassia.

Hire cars cars from Athens are cheap, so recommend a tour of the Pelop

I find the mainland is more family friendly or suited to the maturer type. If your youff, get yourself down to Piraeus and get the boat to the Cyclades (Paros, Naxos, Ios etc.)

We’re off to Stoupa in May half term with the kids. It will be our sixth trip. Late May is a perfect time as the sea is warm enough to swim in, the days are long and the weather is reliable and wam enough in the evening for a t-shirt

We will will be doing more day trips this time as the kids are now teenagers and past lying on the beach for too long. So will be off to Monemvassia, Porto Kagio, Aeropoli, Gerolimenas etc.

Feel torn about mentioning it here as it feels like a secret hideaway only a selected few have found.
Hoping the wizz tours discount from last year comes back. Flew to Vilnius for a long weekend and stayed at green hotel for about £60.

Great to see a helpful post from someone offering good advice on the area. Good effort.
I wish Wizz flew from Manchester
All good except the 6am outbound departure time.
