These are not the greatest, will clamp up OK at the start, but after a bit of use they won't hold anything to tight. With mine the mechanism inside slips past its stop now so have to take it apart and sort it out to use them again
Why would you bin then and not return for a refund? But binning them sounds a lot better.
I have some of the older ones. The one with two jaws on still holds ok , but you have to supply the initial clamping force as the lever snapped off . Wish I'd bought Irwin ones back then as they're not as good now.

I can confirm this issue on a couple of clamps I have, the rest of them work fine - I also got some very similar, but different clamps from Lidl - I much prefer using these.

Sorry, it's a little unclear, which clamps do you prefer?

If you're talking about the quick clamps on sale at Lidl right know (set of 2 12" or set of 2 6" plus two smaller quick clamps), please be aware that they break very easily (one gave up on first use as the construction is flimsy - using plastic where steel should be...)

Sorry, I was a bit vague there - I prefer the red/black clamps, which came from Lidl. There isn't a huge amount in it between them.

It's these ones I'm referring to - lidl.co.uk/en/…394

They sound like the ones you mention, I've not had any issues at all with them and I've used them for fairly major stuff. With that said I have had them 4-5 years, so could be a beefier version.

I did a quick test on the Aldi clamps this lunchtime and they seem fine for what they are - you pretty much get what you pay for and these aren't Irwin price or Irwin quality. Functional though. I didn't get a chance to use them with any powertools (quick handsaw) but they seemed to hold fine.

As for the Lidl set, I had a look at them yesterday and, tbh, they looked like they could have been made in the same factory as the Aldi ones.
They are OK for clamping wood whilst the glue dries, but not for anything too springy

Having just gone to Aldi, I'd take the current Aldi ones (in 150 or 300mm) over the current Powerfix ones which are just not sturdy enough and rely on plastic in places where the Aldi ones have steel.

I’ve had these , all broke with hardly any use , just used to clamp piece on to work bench so they weren’t miss used . Certainly wouldn’t buy again the pin snaps that the handle pivots on

My Aldi clamps bought at roughly the same time as the Lidl ones do the over centre handle thing, so I couldn't recommend them, but it looks like my older versions of the red/black clamps were maybe a bit better quality in the past

Basically, ignore my post, looks like the current red/black clamps are rubbish!
