The game is now F2P up till 20 (with restrictions)

If you buy the Battlechest (£5 now in Blockbuster!) You also get WotLK free: just type in the codes and it is added.

Thought so, cheers guys

Didnt realise WOTLK is free with battlechest, bought it separately like a plonka.

The WOTLK wasnt added until lately. Even i have battlechest from last year, and didnt include that.

Fantastic deal for dweebs

My 9 year old is bugging me for Warcraft.
Is it still a monthly subscription? Or is it like DC Universe where it's free to play but with optional extras?

What does the Battlechest give me and for how long?

Thanks in advance...

Yes willshatswig, it is a monthly subscription. It's less than £10 a month however and very worth it, though I would not say it's for a 9 year old. You'll probably want to sign up for free yourself to try it out and see if you think it's suitable.

It is free to play with restrictions, including only up to level 20 out of 90 levels, but the subscription is well worth it if affordable.

Set him up on the free trial, it will let him get to 20, if he likes it then get the battle chest. That would give you a months gameplay. After the first month that comes with the chest its 9 quid a month.

@WillShatsWig it's on a monthly subscription fee £8.99 per month

definitely not suitable for a 9 year old! honestly I think wow should be an 18 as its so disruptive to kids schoolwork, I played wow for about 2 years and racked up 60 days game time... I've known many people in the game who failed GCSEs , a levels and even degrees because of it. seriously don't let your kids play this game!

60 days? lolol

You have a valid point however but those times are very low for 2 years of warcraft

My nephews been playing it since he was about 11 if that helps, and he loves it, just like I do. 9 is a bit younger but I imagine they will get the hang of it. Younger people seem to learn faster, I know I certainly did when I was that age lol

This will be the control method, you can set times/days/hour timeslots or even total gametime per week all set and blocked by password if needed.

Note however just dont relent when it comes to giving more time on it, its a very good punishment to take it away

If needed I can also refer you for a trial which will give you 30 days playtime just drop me a message with your email address you will be using and ill send it

Guys, I played this game for over 2 years and the game is fine and you can control it as long as you never reach the top level.

When I used to play the maximun level was 70 and until i reached 70 i had a life and I enjoy the game and my real life as well. Once I reached the top level is when the game changes, you probably would want to join a guild, and if that guild does hardcore raids then you had it. Your real life will dissapear.

I used to play 9pm-11pm most days before reaching top level, after that it changed to 8pm-11pm everyday then 8til 12, then 7til 12, then 6til 12 then it got to a point that it was 6pmtil 1am only doing raids at maximun level, having dinner in front of the PC, weekends became farming time to afford potions and get money to be able to afford going into raids during the week.

Be warned this game can really suck you in big time. I had to stop playing, I stopped over 4 years ago now and never went back, it could be very bad.

As long as you do not Raid or do not hit the maximun level your should be fine. Do not make the same mistake I did and lots of people did. Do not join a raiding guild unless you want to stop having a real life.

Hope my advice help.

You're also talking from TBC style raiding which is now non existant, the whole philosophy has changed in game to be more "new player friendly" and you dont need to do top level raiding to see the fights since the introduction of Cross Realm Raiding/Looking for Raid.

Times have changed TBC was hell for that kind of thing but now not so much I do 2 raids per week between 7pm and 10pm and thats it I chose to but I enjoy my alts and other challenges

It's no longer like that.
Also, that is your own fault, you do not HAVE to play that long. I spend a lot of time on it but mostly solo or smaller dungeons / raids. So long as you do it in moderation it's fine.

Any time not spent on this will likely only be time sat in front of the TV watching repeats anyways or going outside and "hanging" out, in other words doing nothing.

These games? more than likely he is playing the new(ish) craze league of legends, warcraft doesnt take much these days to get anywhere you want to be and you can see all content if you chose at a basic level.
