That's because everyone's garden is under 2ft of water

Lol true. Also best time is April/may or sept/Oct. When growing strongly
I have a similar version of this and must say using it (at the right time) has helped my lawn no end. Just a word of warning the 'grass' box fills up very quickly. I have to have a waste bag on each side of the lawn and empty it at every turn.

Can you explain in more detail why... I'm new to gardening but managed to somehow buy petrol mower, grass spreader, 5 in 1 petrol saw/trimmer/cutter, electric cutter, electric trimmer , petrol chainsaw, 2 rakes (plastic and metal) large lawn flattener and now feel I need this...! How useful is it..?

I found last time I cut grass it all fell to the bottom of the lawn and so stopped further grass seeds growing... A year later I had to take up manually all the grass....!

Also forgot to mention have a sprinkler, 20kg or soluble iron... And wife going to kill me ..!
Thanks Op. Great timing. Mine conked out after 5 years. Desperately needed.

Wrong. It can be scarifier in August. …Wrong. It can be scarifier in August. https://www.lawnsmith.co.uk/lawn-diary

I was a month out. Sorry.

It can be very hot and and dry in August. Grass doesn't grow in these conditions. Scarifying bis harsh. You need your grass to be growing strongly

Scarifying is a spring or autumn job. The grass needs to be growing strongly or you'll kill it off. In summer grass doesn't grow much, nor in winter. I do mine in April and reseed. And again in September.

You'll be amazed how much these pick up. I have a small lawn that only half fills the lawnmower. When scarifying it fills my green bin to the brim with dead grass and moss.

You're probably correct, I was just going off what the article said. As has been said spring and autumn are the best times. Cheers

Oh man... I got Moss in my lawn. Also dead grass from months ago that's created a thatch so that new grass seeds don't grow. Was thinking of using this may be at high setting to get the dead grass off the law.. cut low and over seed. Was also going to water whole garden with soluble iron to kill the moss.....

Now you telling me that I cannot do that until October...!

You can do it now, just don't expect the grass to grow back as quickly. Although at the moment it's very wet. You want it soft but not wet.
