It's an SD production. What's the point of the Blu Ray!?
The ultra cheap DVD set is much better value and just as good visually.

It wasn't an SD production though. Originally shot on 35mm but aired as SD. The first seasons are way better now they have been re-edited. They quality is very good. Worth the price? Nah.

The complete series has been remastered from the original 35mm film stock like the Star Trek Next Generation release a few years ago. The press release is online if you google for it. More info on blu-ray.com, too.

The set also includes the extras from the DVD release.
This works out at about £13.33 a season which is a great deal - I can't understand why it's so cold

Now it's been remastered in HD, it looks amazing and I can't wait to binge watch my favourite tv show of all time again!

Erm, nope, as others have stated, it's nice and ready for bluray!

I was lucky enough to get it for £99 from Zavvi a while back with a code, for pre-order. I think people vote cold, because it's past £100 just for a TV show.
Well people suck and don't know a great deal when they see one!
As always, you're paying top price for a new release. Give this time for the hype to die down after the new series release, and this will be £60-£80. Most fans will already have the DVD set, and £120 is a lot for an upgrade.

Well, maybe £13.33 a series is a great deal for the first 5, but not such a great deal for the last 4!

I have the DVD boxset (currently on season 5) as well as every season saved to a memory card to watch on my tablet

Please do your homework before commenting, you look silly and have no idea what your talking about, and "just as good visually" rofl not even in the same league
Why is this cold? It's cheaper than everywhere else at the moment. And it *is* full HD as it's already been show on German TV.
I had no idea they had released this on Blu ray?! One of the best TV shows ever made, hot vote from me for the heads up alone...

I think it's because zavvi were at £99 after voucher plus it recently been confirmed that the movies will not be included so there's that extra cost and the what were they smoking when they came up with that decision issue, since now it's not complete even though they had the foresight to include a spacer for s10 but not the movies when one of them ties the two seasons together and is referenced throughout the series?

For me that blew it i'll wait till it's cheap as hell or get a used copy with the additional expense of two movies them the purchase of the new series to even be complete. £120 is too high maybe if they had included the movies defo 1st day buy at £99 with the two movies, that would have me sold. xmas or not.

I'll definitely pick this up down the line. I'm currently rewatching the HD remasters on the American Netflix to catch up in time for the new event series
I do hope this comes down in price but seriously, 9 seasons of anything for £120 is really cheap. Also the films are in the Aus release, are we certain that they aren't in the UK one as well?
Yes, confirmed to me by Fox UK Marketing, no movies, just an obscenely large number of discs in an oversized box to try and justify the price tag. I'm not buying until the price comes well down. Currently £149.99 at Amazon, but only £95 from Amazon France, which shows how the British public are being conned again.

A decent price, but if you're a in the US you can pick up all nine seasons from FoxConnect for £55 with their 50% off sale, that makes the Zavvi deal look expensive!

It's 4 episodes to a BD melanie789, with the potential for deleted scenes and commentaries added to those discs as well, so the disc count is apt. We'll hopefully get healthy a bitrate unlike other TV sets which try to cram as much as they can onto the BDs.

The only downside is that they're not in their original aspect ratio, the first four seasons will have their effects shots cropped and we're losing a lot of height to get the extra information on the sides with all the other shots, it's such a shame that they haven't given us 4:3 options when they've got the HD masters for them.

The movie rights aren't the same as the TV rights though so I doubt anyone had any choice in the matter. It's basically £12 per season which insanely cheap for a Bluray that has never come out before.

yet fox Australia incudes them fine, big let down imo, enough to stop me buying the set new anyway.

As for the disc count I agree with the 55 discs (would prefer 2 extra for the movies) why people still count discs is stupid it doesn't matter what does is the quality and the bitrate, I don't care if it's 1000 discs as long as the episodes have room to breath, also I hear things like oh this set is to big it will take up space, omg really that's what worries you shelf space geez, then there my fav, oh but I have to change the disc, well duh, are you telling me after sitting for 3hrs watch 4 episodes you can't be bothered to get off your back side to change a disc ? my god were turning into American couch potato's, lazy much, then there's oh no digital copies I'm like well good who wants a hugely inferior product, I mean with x-files they went back to the 35mm print but sure lets just have digital copy's that will pretty much make the new master a waste once its been re-coded with in a inch of it's life and had 90% of the audio sucked out of it, sure why not oO.
As for the format debate I prefer what's going on to the left and right not the dead space above, usually what happens above and bellow does not change what's going on in the scene however several scenes have shown that extending to the left and right does add to the scene police officers investigating the scene, that we never saw before, a wider context of a room or home showing more of the personality of a person, now weather it looks good squeezed or stretch is another perspective from what I've seen it looks very good and I'm happy with it but that's just me, on a simple note though people are of the opinion that 4;3 is an old dated format and should no longer be used, I agree, everybody want's there t.v. filled and I'm good with that as long as it's done properly, which isn't always the case.
