As it's an X series weekend with X3 and X3:TC available together and the latter separately from Steam, thought I'd post up their predecessor at the low, low price of 96p from GAME.

Apparently so, although I've never played Elite. It's certainly big, large scale and engrossing.

ordering one very soon. Looks like a really cool game. Heat added.

Let go of the mouse and step away from the keyboard; playing Elite is one of the prerequisites of using any computer from the BBC micro onwards.

I'm pretty sure it's part of the ECDL. If not, it should be!

:geek:

does this need a fancy controller or can you just use mouse/keyb?
(not a gamer but misty eyed with the elite references!)

It's not quite like Elite, it's certainly not as open. Each system has several Jumpgates which connect systems together.

The Combat is pretty average, and to some extent so is the trading, the real focus is on a bigger scale. Setting up stations and coordinating ships.

It can take a lot of time investment to get the most out of the X series, but there is a lot to experience.

Only needs the keyboard. If you can get used to it you can whizz through the menus quicker than you could with a mouse.

Microsoft Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP
Pentium III 800 MHz or equal (Pentium IV 1.3Ghz)
128 MB RAM (256MB)
32 MB 3D graphics card (GeForce) (64MB)
Soundcard
800 MB free disk space
4x CD-ROM
Mouse
Keyboard or joystick (optional support for force-feedback)

Found it on ]Amazon, checked with my boxed version and added the recommended in bold. It's quite a few years old now (for a game), so I doubt anyone would have trouble playing it.

remember those pesky Thargons in jumpspace, and the urban myth about huge base ships! lolol
