Android box with 2G RAM and 16GB ROM + Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Cheapest I could find for these specs.

Supports 4k and kodi pre-installed. Also has good reviews. Only down side, no 5G WiFi connectivity.

The 2G/16G spec with just the standard remote should be selected.

Link shows dollars, recommend using the app.

Wondering the same thing. Firestick doesn't seem to cut it for the HD live streams.

It does seem a good spec and actually thinking of upgrading my current android box for this one. I would personally buy it from amazon for a few quid more. you would have to load your own repo wizard. I use The beast build which i really like.

Finally bit the bullet and bought one just now from Amazon- thanks Bradley.

In my experience Yes, also not Kodi but rather SMPC.

The firestick's loading time is also very slow compared to my 1gb quadcore android box, so the cpu is also very important, and this has 2gb ram so it should be faster.

I prefer android boxes over amazon stick/tv, there are no walls.

the only thing amazon tv has that android boxes dont is the native bbc iplayer . ATV version is designed for remotes, the android version is designed for touch so it doesnt work well, this used to be a problem for youtube but there exists a youtube app for tv so its all good. I use smpc for iplayer too to get around this,

There are several iPlayer add-ons for Kodi, not as pretty but they work well, including directly choosing any regional channel variant.

I find the X96 remote has a really poor range and is very directional. The WiFi needs a good signal, if you cant guarantee that or hard wire it, another box with external aerial might be a better choice. Mine is also astonishingly sensitive to EM interference, WiFi wouldn't work usably with it near a mains extension cable.

Otherwise it's a nice little box.

Yes I use the iplayer www add on for kodi. Apparently there's a shield iplayer but I never managed to get it to work on my Android box. And the atv needs Amazon app store to be logged in. If a kind soul was to have an nvidia shield they might be able to clone the app using appclone or extract it using es file Explorer

No, definitely 16gb on Amazon- the price has gone up to £39.99 since I bought it though.

The original 16gb is currently sold out by the looks of it! Def was a 16gb

My order from Amazon was delivered this afternoon- that is certainly very quick!

And how have I lived without one of these things for so long?I'm blown away by how it categorises all the films and TV over the network on my hard drives. Genres, covers, descriptions, cast, etc.

I put The Beast repo on as advised above, but absolutely hated it- I lost all my library information from the stuff on my hard drives and couldn't work out how to get the library going again. Also, it seemed to be missing loads of settings options that were available from the standard Kodi install, even after enabling expert settings mode. So I did a factory reset and had a scary moment when it hanged at the logo screen for some time.

Is there another easy way to get all the various channels, films & TV that The Beast offered, but without disturbing all the settings and video libraries with a hideous interface?

BTW, it's definitely 2gb RAM, 16gb ROM. Thanks so much for this recommendation and link to Amazon!

Someone else found the Amazon link and I'm not exactly sure what problem you are facing but I'm sure you know there many other add-ons. Exodus is a good add-on.

Yes, thanks to Bradley for that- I thought it was obvious where the thanks were going!

If you want Kodi do yourself a favour and buy a decent microSD card and put libreelec on it, runs a million times better, full audio passthrough, display rate switching and generally a much better experience.

I have a couple of the A95X S905X 2GB/16GB boxes that pop up at gearbest/banggood from time to time for about £26. The Nexbox A95X also is pretty good for android updates, I'm not sure who makes/supports the X96 if anyone at all.

A decent Micro SD card is the Samsung Evo + (plus) 16gb is generally more than enough. Don't be fooled by cards claiming high read/write speeds, it's the 4k speeds that matter for this. Sandisk have cut corners in their latest range and their cards perform pretty badly now despite claiming up to 80mb/s read speeds.

Glad you are liking the box. There are so many different builds so its just about finding one that suits you. I also got mine yesterday and been really playing with it hard. Had to find a fix on youtube as it kept crashing when i was going fast thought the listing, but hopefully that has all resolved since the fix. Sportsdevil and UKturks are very popular for sports.

Wookie > The Beast imho

I had a look at libreelec, but can't see any benefits to me just to switch OS. I have a very forgiving plasma HD 3d TV, and my main motivation for getting a box was after the windows 10 upgrade killed HDMI on my laptop so I can't watch 3d films anymore (unless the files are under 4gb so I can use a USB stick).
I don't have any fancy audio setups, just a sound bar- and last night I threw a 15gb 3d film at the new box which it handled fantastically once I plugged in an Ethernet cable between the box & the router. Even on WiFi it was doing pretty well apart from very highly textured fast-moving action scenes.
The only problem I had was that I couldn't get a remote working on my Android phone, but it turned out my router had stubbornly assigned identical IP addresses to TV box and phone for some reason.

So out of genuine interest, what benefits would I see from libreelec?

And Bradley, what was the fix you had to apply which might be useful to know if there are any issues?

I think I'll stay away from builds & repositories and just build things up gradually!

youtube.com/wat…sxY is for a fix if you get sudden error and kodi switches off. Not sure if it happens as i put the Beast build on and its causes crashing issue.

Enjoy setting up you own profile and who knows in a couple of months we might be downloaded your build! Lol take care and happy new year

Is more than 8gb required if you are purely streaming?
