This seems to be the cheapest I can see.

If anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate as I'm thinking of ordering for XBMC.

Is this better than a rapberry Pi with XBMC loaded? I need something that I can plug and play as i'm not great with these things! Perfect feedback for over 2000 sales and UK based

Does XBMC handle distributed clients well? I currently run plex and have 7 clients outside my network, and it is handles brilliantly. People keep going on about XBMC though, last time I tried it was probably 3 or 4 years ago and back then it was useless for accessing things on a different network.

Raspberry Pi runs XBMC (RaspBMC) very well, but it is by no means plug and play. Yeah you can buy one set up with RaspBMC on the SD card already, but when things go wrong, you need to know what you're doing in terms of SD card image writing etc. Depends how you are with computers, if you're computer savvy it's fairly easy, but it depends if you want to spend the time with it, over something that "just always works".

Or something like this, check the Minix site but i'm sure they have XBMC running on this now. Minix are great for customer service/support, and they have a strong forum community:

Raspberry Pi with XBMC are fine for small library's, but struggle with large ones hosted on a nas

Ask them which chipset it has in it.

Rockchip chipsets are notorious for not being able to handle true 1080p video out of the box and need Custom Roms.

Amlogic tends to handle it better out of the box.

This is only a dual core box and I would do some more searching for a quad core.

The Minix NEO X7 mini is £78.30 through Amazon Linky

I'm really looking for something plug and play that will "always work" Seems the Raspberry pi is out! what benefits would the futeko.com/pro…php (MiniX NEO X7) have over the one I have linked?

Sorry to be a pain, I'm ok with computers, but not great, so would prefer not to get involved!

u can get it 4 free download it from xbmc website

Any that you would recommend? Not to bothered about full 1080p as they would still stream, just at a lower format wouldn't they?

Stick with Plex!

I'd avoid this. No mention of what chipset therefor you don't know that it will support XBMC .

It comes preloaded with XBMC and seller has over 2000 positive feedbacks, So i would assume it will be ok?

The Sumvision Cyclone X2 will likely do what you want for a cheap price.

Here is a previous thread on here about it Linky

Preloaded does not mean that XBMC will run efficiently unfortunately.

To get the best out of XBMC, you need hardware acceleration enabled.

AMLOGIC chipsets support it natively but Rockchip doesn't and would need a Custom ROM.

I suspect I will, hard to complain when a 720p client box costs £8!

Can only find one with XBMC preloaded on ebay for £265.00 not looking to pay anywhere near that, and don't fancy setting it up myself. Assuming this isn't the same? ebay.co.uk/itm…738 Or is this any good? I literally just want to watch live football and movies from their archive.

xbmc out the box has no access to anything. it has to be configured by the user. so no xbmc box would be suitable for you. in order to access streamed movies and sports etc, you need to know what you are doing. especially since UK isp's are blocking all the streaming links on most of the xbmc plug-ins. your best bet is paying for Netflix.

£265?

As has been said, you do need to set it up but if you go to the official XBMC site, you can find instructions on how to do it.

The add-ons are really easy to install and with a bit of research, you will find whats best for you. Got mine off eBay for just over £100!

According to the Gbox site, it only comes with ICS, not JB.

What did yours come with?

On that basis, it sounds good with the OP wanting most functionality out of the box.

One here for a reasonable price, fully loaded so to speak.

Do you have a link for that?

I can see an X5 clone but not an X7.

You would still not see consistently smooth 1080p playback because it's a Rockchip chipset.

Even the official X7's need a Custom ROM to get the best out of them.

I've bought a couple of MK808's which do the job very well, works great with XBMC in my experience.

I initially bought one of these (example only not actual vendor):

geekbuying.com/ite…tml

Used it for around 8 months then gave it to my mother with all sorts of apps installed in the UK then I bought the MK808B which has Bluetooth. I had thought that Bluetooth could be used for mic/audio function but this isn't the case. You can use BT for audio playback but that's not something I required. I wanted to use the MK808B with a BT headset for Skype through the TV.

The MK808/B seem to be generally reliable low cost solutions that perform pretty well and have quite an active modding community.

The negative is usually low signal strength on WiFi but this can be resolved with a cheap USB to Lan adapter from eBay for just over a quid.

The MK808's are OK but out of the box you will be very lucky to get smooth HD.

I had one and then moved up to a MK809ii but even that struggled at times with the RK3066 chipset, until I tried and had to further tweak a few Custom ROM's over at Freaktab.

It really is the best decision you will make, we got rid of sky 4 months ago and we can stream almost anything through xbmc and the add-ons. You can even watch live freeview channels through it!
