Ok, so this is another post from me about the 120gb hard drive but I have been thinking of getting one recently.

Found this on play for £79.99 use the current £5 in you get if the price it was at Toys R Us. Hurry though, the £5 voucher ends tonight I think.

I just ordered mine and can confirm it is still working. Don't forget 4% Quidco!

How on earth do microsoft get away with such ridiculous prices.

Someone just posted a deal for a 1tb external HD for £99...

Yes, Microsoft is ripping off the Xbox360 owners with these HDD, but this is probably the cheapest around if you need one.
So in context of the post, I think its hot.

Number of PC in the world: 1 Billion

Number of Xbox 360s: 20 Million.

I guess it's economies of scale.

Voted Hot.

I didnt feel ripped off when Microsoft charged me £27 for it! :-D...

Trust PCWorld to be stamping down on prices!

Thanks, been toying with the idea of buying the same drive thats in the enclosure and doing a DIY job, drives are only £40 (inc postage, could probably get it a couple quid cheaper if shop around) but then need to get a cable off ebay to transfer data over so thats another £10. Will do it this way and sell my 20GB drive to a friend for £30 (they arent that good a friend ;)) which will be cheaper than the DIY route

I haven't got around to doing it yet, but it's a easy 10 minute job. The model required is the Western Digital (thanks gary_rip) WD1200BEVS (only this drive works).
scan.co.uk/Pro…184 - £30. 54 inc del (Hexus free shipping)
ebuyer.com/pro…273 - £31.75 inc del

Is the DIY upgrade easy to do? Can a complete novice do it?

So this is from PlayTrade then shipping from the USA? Wont this get hit by customs?

\Never used PlayTrade before

Sold out now.

Maybe not a novice.
Open HD casing. Take drive out, connect to PC.
Hardish bit: Boot into PC using USB Key (HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool) which has the hddhackr tool copied onto it. Run hddhackr to extract security sector.
Boot windows - extract partitions from drive.
Connect new drive. Use hddhackr to save security sector to drive.
Boot windows - copy partitions to drive.
Seal up the 360 HD case.

A more detailed guide on the software bits here: beta.ivancover.com/wik…ade and a guide on opening the drive: xbox-scene.com/tut…php

@MoneySavingG

Yeah .... too complicated for me. Plus I use a Mac, so even less likely I could do it.

Cheers for the explanation though, greatly appreciated

I'll just have to save up, buy an official one and let MS rape my wallet!

Bought it at this price some time ago.

It wasn't Play trade at first. I guess it needs expiring now?

Probably a great price in the grand scheme of things, but generally a ridiculous price for what is a 120gb external drive that can be had for less than £40rrp. Typical 'custom part' rip-off.
I won't vote, as i'll stick with the 20gb HDD that came with the premium. When M$ start feeling like charging the same as WD, Seagate, Maxtor, Freecom et al then i'll go for one.

I got a 120gb OEM Xbox 360 Harddrive for £62 delivered from Hong Kong through ebay just before christmas 2007.

Works perfect.
