Are the Morrisons / Amazon deals still on? both seemed a little hotter...

(although, that said, this is the best widely-available price I've seen for the console on it's own)

this is a good deal for the 250 gb i paid nearly this amount for the 4gb ......but had to in the end buy extra memory as lots have been added to the x box such as youtube channel 4 od etc so its a good deal

Cheers mine just got rrod and was looking a new one . This is better than any price I could find
Just have to figure out how to get info from old hard drive onto new one

Ugly textures, capped at 30fps and not even directX 11 support & disc swapping? What is this, 1994? Why do people buy such old technology?

I've got an Xbox, I didn't know much about PC gaming, but when I got into it, it's just amazing!

Because when I'm gaming, I prefer to sprawl out on my couch and be comfy instead of hunching over a keyboard.

I prefer the superior world of PC gaming too, which I also enjoy whilst sprawling on my couch but with better graphics, sound, all round experience and would you believe the same 360 controller!... however the missus likes Fable games and some crappy developers decided to not to release the 2nd game on a proper gaming platform.. so now she's played fable 1 and 3... she wants fable 2.. so I have to buy this crappy console.

That's my excuse for having to buy this junk anyway. I'll probably find some other semi decent xbox only titles I can play to make most out of the waste of cash.

Edit: forgot to say voted hot because it's a good price if you need this console.

Money? Poorly optimized ports? Bug ridden messes? No guarantee that it would even run on your system? Until the next generation of consoles comes along then all that hardware will rarely get taken advantage of.

Ah right, because its not possible at all to have a wireless controller connected to a PC which is connected to your TV.

While PC gaming will always be superior, the cost is the only thing holding it back at the moment.

No doubt there will come a day however that either AMD or Nvidia (most likely AMD) will pull out of the PGU game, at which point their GPU line will be streamlined and, due to less GPUs, better optimization/less time needed to optimize games, or so it should in theory.

Every game can run on my system at max settings 1080p, spent about a grand on my pc about 2 months ago. Built it myself, I didn't have to buy it all in one go, first the core components, then gradually started adding onto it.

I hate keyboards and use the xbox controller for everygame, if a game doesn't support the xbox controller, I manually map the keys and controls to it.

I would hope you can run shoddy DX9 games that barely look any different on a PC on highest settings would run smoothly. There are a few exceptions to this rule but the majority do not warrant a constant investment on hardware upgrades for your PC so you can brute force crappy coding and optimization.

As much as I hate PC elitists, I wish there was one here to put you in your place.

PC ports will always look superior due to the huge bump in resolution, AA, and mods. And thats as a baseline. You also need to take into account that console versions are stuck at the rather sluggish 30fps mark.

Where did I dispute the fact that PC versions didn't look any better? I simply gave reasons to why people would purchase a console instead of a gaming PC, one primarily being money, lack of support, ports, ect ect. Also.. where are the mods for BF3? Oh no they cut that out didn't they. There are only a few games that were ported from console that were given mod support and that is Skyrim. The average person couldn't give a toss about the things you mentioned and simply want to play games and have fun.

erm, capped at 30fps? funny that all the call of dutys run at 50fps and so do many other games, the xbox is also smaller, quiter, more portable, more handy then a large chunky overpriced raditor that becomes half as good by the end of the year.

Most importantly, when you spend your money on an Xbox, you're guaranteed a bunch of new titles that you can actually pay for the next 4 or 5 years without having to keep forking out on hardware upgrades. I used to be a PC gamer, but got tired of having to buy a new GFX card every couple of years...

PC gaming is superior end of story. However you cannot be a technical idiot to benefit from it. You need to be able to maintain and configure a PC. You don't need to upgrade GFX card every few years, if you buy the right one it'll last 5 years too. It can cost more than console gaming but it will do more than just game and will be far better experience. Console gaming is fine for some people who don't care about having the best graphics and experience etc and just want to put CD in and play. Hot deal for people like that.

It is a fair point on how crap this xbox hardware is though. It would also be fair point if people were to say PC gaming is dying/ not what it used to be.. more and more games being released are just crappy ports and killing PC gaming. We are all being forced into console gaming (which first person shooters are crap on - keyboard mouse is only way to play these games) and rubbish inferior graphics and sound compared to what they could be if games were properly developed for PC. Sad Times

I completely agree. This generation of consoles has already lasted too long and has stagnated technological progress but if it's only about money these days, only a few game devs understand it's about making great games with equally great graphics. This is why I've still got my GTX 260, I'll upgrade once there is a significant performance increase in the games that I play.

Why do people buy such old technology?

Perhaps because they can play the same games - admittedly with lower quality graphics - for about a sixth of the upfront cost

Not to mention the upgrades...

Yea like I said for casual gamers with no technical/hardware/software knowledge (or 12 years with just pocket money/poor people lol) who don't care about having games with graphics/experience it's supposed to have.

Any real gamer would be frustrated with the way games are going on consoles. Especially FPS games like battlefield/COD... on a controller they are tripe. The accuracy of a keyboard and mouse is unrivalled. Hence why difficulty levels are reduced on console games like that. I'd like to see them open up xbox/PS3 games multiplayer games against PC gamers... If you've ever played games like battlefield 3 on PS3 and then played on PC.. the difference in the flow of the games is unbelievable.

I don't agree with the cost either, I use a PC everyday as I need one so would have one anyway. My motherboard is 6 years old, so is my case. My sound card and speakers are probably older and is 7.1 sourround. My CPU lasted 5 years and I upgraded to quad core few months ago for £55 second hand as Black Ops struggled and demanded more multi-threading and cores.
Only thing that costs for gaming on PC is the graphics cards but I have GTX 480 currently which I can assure will last for years yet, which I got about 1.5 years ago for £180 on offer.

No idea what I'm talking about? Stick with your consoles, but know this - you don't know what real gaming is like and you're playing your part in killing real gaming.

And yea I'm **** I have to buy this xbox junk to play a game that plays best and should have been on a PC.

If the PC versions of COD and Battlefield are so superior, why do the console versions outsell the PC versions substantially with every release?

It's unbelievable how people will still buy inferior stuff isn't it? Obviously no one really understands true gaming.
