i usually avoid games consoles but damm thats cheap!

new or pre-owned?

Original Poster

its new, usually £119.98 but reduced a further £20.

People keep taking about Jasper, what is good about it?

A Jasper is a motherboard revision. They keep improving the design of the motherboard. The Jasper is more efficient and runs cooler than the previous versions and as such is less likely to fail (red ring) on you.

At this price this is the best value console on the market.

Does this have HDMI?

That's a great price! and hopefully available in a store near me!
OK, perhaps not as good value as a bundle deal, but then they're only worth buying if you happen to like the games.I'd sooner get the console on it's own for a good price, and then choose a few games that I'd really want.

I can see the flames now lol

Well i have all 3 , the wii, ps3 and the xbox 360 (elite & normal) and a zx spectrum (yes I am that old)

In my opinion if the xbox had a blu ray player the ps3 would be dead in the water as it is about £100 too expensive. Still the PS3 is a very good machine.

The PS2 was better than the Xbox but the Xbox360 is better than the PS3 for games.

If anybody bought orange box for the PS3 they know what i mean.

£100 for a 360, grab it while you can.

Great deal. I`ve got both consoles as well, but i prefere to play on Xbox 360 (better online services and controller), however there is a few games on PS3 that you cant find on X360 (God of War, Uncharted1&2, Heavy Rain...)

About multiplatform games - they look pretty much the same on both consoles.

I agree. PS3 maybe has a better exlusives, but developers keep you waiting....and waiting....and waiting....some of games was announced at the console launch and didnt came yet!

You went from a ZX Spectrum to a PS3/XBOX360 Elite? That's some upgrade!

You can still play games I believe, just not install them to the hard drive or download extra content on live. Note you can save as the new Jasper Arcade and Elite units have built in memory.

That's not entirely true, you only need the HD if you're downloading stuff. I've only ever used my HD for "playing from hard drive", I generally save games on the inbuilt memory.

bargin, im getting this to flash and keep as my offline xbox

seems to me they are selling the consoles cheap, getting people on xbox live, as modded boxes aren't safe on live anymore.

going to check out maidstone store now

voted cold not better than the rescent Amazon offer where for £120 delivered you got a wireless entertainment pack and Bordorlands or Fifa10.

Great price, voted hot if it's confirmed nationwide.

PS3 vs. Xbox 360 is swings and roundabouts. PS3 is pricier but has Blu Ray and includes built in wifi, HDD and free online play (latter are payable extras for Xbox). Both are great consoles. Xbox has an awful hardware failure rate history, but that shouldn't be a problem now if buying new.

The current deal on Amazon is £119.98 for an Arcade and for an extra £10 you get the WEP. If you buy the WEP from Argos, this deal works out 10 quid cheaper, but either way, this is still the best current deal for an Arcade on its own.

yeah but you can't download demos, or extra content or games (such as the amazing Shadow Complex) and some games have huge patches (e.g Burnout).
its ok if you want to play games offline with a memory card, but that really takes away most of the benefits of having an X360 in the first place.
I guess what I'm saying is although £100 is a good deal, it may be worthwhile looking for deals with a hard drive too if the price difference isn't that big otherwise you may end up regretting it and have to get one later at some stage.

Football Manager 2006 and Final Fantasy XI are the only 2 games that can't be played at all without a hard drive. Burnout Paradise is (AFAIK) the only game that can't be played online without a hard drive. Title updates have an 8 MB limit so internal memory or a memory card gives you plenty of room for those. Burnout's ~1.9 GB update is the single exception rather than the rule. If you want to get a console as cheaply as possible to get into gaming, you can still get online with this and play big titles like MW2, GTA IV etc. although I agree that to get the best out of the 360, you do need a hard drive, but not everyone uses their console in the same way that I do.

Original Poster

You can pick up a 2nd hand hard drive for less than £20 which is still cheaper than the other arcade consoles on the market so is pretty good still.

I bought an xbox 360 on a great deal for £90 about 18 months ago. All this time later it is the most successful console I ever owned. As someone else says, the controller and the online service are excellent.

I bought a PS3 more recently and it has become a white elephant except for blu ray playback and a couple of exclusive games.

At £100 it is a definite buy. ALso, they still have loads of sports games in Game and Gamestation for 99p (Fifa, pro evo, Tiger Woods golf etc) and some adventure games not much more (Beowulf for £2, Quantum of Solace for £5) - so for £120 you can be away and playing some great games.

You'll need extra controllers, hard drive, wireless adaptor etc eventually, but you can pick these up over time at bargain prices...

I say buy buy buy! And get yourself Halo 3!

If you must have blu ray, don't they still have those £50 region free ones in HMV?..

THis is the killer price point. When the basic 360 or wii retails at £99 / 99 Euro / $99 thats where you will see the mass market sales.

For this sort of money its just unbelievable value, huge back catalogue of AAA HD games for little money. Worth Getting one for The Gears Games, Mass Effect and Halo Franchise alone let alone all the other great titles.

Why keep it offline just coz its flashed? I've had my original 360 flashed for 3 years now, no idea what version it's flashed with but i'm sure it aint stealth and I use it online all the time! As long as your not stoopid enough to play a backup while logged into xbox live, you're ok.

lol your one of the lucky ones
best be safe and have 2 after last time i got banned

can somebody confirm this in other stores ???
