Can you still buy £50 gift vouchers and get £5 promotion voucher back?

I did this last time the £5/£10 voucher promotion was on. Ended up buying 3 x 50 vouchers, getting £15 worth of promotion vouchers and getting something worth £165 for £150.00.

That would bring this down to £120.

£129.99 with star wars/tigerwoods 09 at game

the free halo doesnt work with the arcade model

From the T&C's;

This offer is not available with the purchase of Argos gift cards.

Looks like they closed that particular loophole. Which is disappointing, I saved about £60 last christmas on various purchases!

I'd like to know about Halo though, as its one of the reasons for me to buy an Xbox. Is it because the arcade version doesn't have a hard drive?

I saw this offer in todays Express - but when I tried adding this model and game into basket online - it didnt work either....

Best bet is to buy this in-store where you can actually show a copy of the advert which should be honoured and further you dont pay p&p

Copy of e-metro (check offer in page 25)

Silly question, is this model HDMI?

Banned

Nope, doesn work on the Arcade model online...

Maybe if you take an advert instore they 'may' honour it, but knowing Argos then basically if it dont come up on their system they say it isnt available OR available in 'that' store !!!!

All x-box consoles have gone down in price

Argos seem to be doing the free gift card with money spent at the moment. I was in there this morning and a guy got a £10 card for spending £100+.

edit: whoops, just spotted it mentions the free gift card in the heading now.

Ah, ok so it is just the online component, the same as most other games then. Since I'm not planning on going online anytime soon I should still be able to enjoy the single player content?

..we all know, but i was just saying that the Free game with Arcade model for £129 doesnt work onlone with Argos...nothing to do with the general reduction in Xbox prices:?

It was, the first line of the quote was the answer to my original question, so it was a follow on question! :whistling:

Hang on, I've just re-read it, and I think I've lost the plot. Did you say that Halo 3 doesn't work with the arcade model when playing online, or that it can't be ordered from Argos online?!

Monkey nuts 2;3003859

Silly question, is this model HDMI?

Not a stupid question they confused everyone with the recent upgrades (pro/ premium, core/ arcade!). I may be wrong but I think all of the new consoles come with HDMI?? (all adverts seem to mention arcade has it too!). If you want to be sure, it will state it on the box, just ask to view before you buy

It will have hdmi.

I honestly don't think there has ever been a better time to buy a 360.

I think the arcade has hdmi. Also, halo 3 won't work because the arcade won't have a harddrive to fit the downloads the online requires.

On a second note. Good deal. It's either this or a slim psp

Are you sure you need a HDD for online Halo 3 ?

I dont remember it downloading a load of stuff on mine the last time I tried it.

Well they will be releasing new models with the 'Jasper' chip soon that will be cooler and quiter. But deffinatly the 360 is a very good value purchace right now. It just shows how much Nintendo are milking the cash right now as ofcially the DS and Wii RRP is still £99 and £179 respectivly (I know you can get better 'deals').

i just saw this ad in the paper, the '*' next to free game actually means 'on selected lines', the selected line being the pro console so this isnt actually a deal....

Well Halo 3 is worth what £15 new so with the £10 gift card its £105 for a 360 arcade console. Seems like a very good deal to me.

It will have hdmi all stock has been for many months...

Why are people saying you can play Halo3 on an arcade thats crazy of course you can. You get a memory card with the arcade, so you can play online as well. The only thing you cant do is download the extra content, maps etc without a HD....

Whilst this is very tempting, I have no time to play my consoles, and I should be putting cash aside for the mortgage price hikes and extortionate lender fees.

Excatly its complete ****. Of course you can play HAlo 3 on an arcade console and play online. If you want to download extra content etc you just buy a HD you can pick them up for £20 - £30 on ebay. it just gives the option to people that dont want or need the hd to save a bit of cash. No HD on wii is there :whistling:

great deal

Yes, i agree. Arcade is also better as you can buy your own bigger harddrive for less money
You can prob use the remaining cash to buy an elite case, fit it on, and voila, an elite 360

Exactly, so you can either buy a vastly inferior kids toy with a 2 year old basic sports sim for £179 or a High definition console/media centre system £129 with pretty much any game of your choice.

If I didn't already have both machines then I know which one I would go for.

Hmmm.. thats a decent offer.

My xbox just broke down, for rrod. sending it away to get fixed. I have always wanted a xbox 360 with hdmi connection.

are the new xbox's quite reliable?

£129.99 is the standard arcade price now everywhere, THIS ARCADE MODEL DOES NOT COME WITH A FREE GAME! only the pro console like in this argos thread hotukdeals.com/ite…60/

No, fraid not. They are still just as phail as ever lol.
I wouldn't have one as my only console but if you had something else to game on while it's at the menders then fine! The 3 year RROD warranty is far from a perfect solution from MS but it is at least there and as someone else said this is a pretty good time to buy a 360. Although the person calling the Arcade 360 a 'media centre' is pushing it a bit. I personally wouldn't invest in a media centre that only had enough storage for 2 or 3 albums!

Voted hot anyway, I'm tempted... but probably won't bother still.

taken from my post #25

'i just saw this ad in the paper, the ' * ' next to where it says free game actually means 'on selected lines', the selected line being the pro console so this isnt actually a deal....'

its just a marketing ploy by argos, i phoned up to confirm this as didnt want a wasted journey down there to argue a non existant deal lol

lol oic, what a scammish way to get us
still, some of us might get lucky but who knows...

That is a bit c**py on Argos's part, the layout of the ad suggests a free game with any version of the 360. They should have had it as two distinct ads, one saying XBox for 129.99, then another one saying free game with XBox pro.

Edit: I'm still not convinced this isn't how we're reading it. The * is next to the 'free game' part, which is true because it is only select games. IE the two that are listed. The text then says 'To take advantage of this offer, simply order the catalogue number of your choice of console and the catalogue number of your choice of game'. It also says in the T&C's that 'offers may not be available in all stores, over the telephone or internet'.

I reckon that either;

1. They've not fully updated the website and that particular combination will start working tomorrow.
2. Its never going to be on the website and is an 'in-store' thing only, maybe limited to the bigger stores?
3. The free game is indeed only for the more expensive options.

I've got my fingers crossed for 1 or 2. Bearman, you say you phoned up, what was their response?

they told me it was just for the pro console as a promotion and whatever comes up on the internet is the same as the stores system, it is cheeky of them but as i said since they put the asterix next to free game and that leads to where it says 'selected lines only', the selected line being the pro version then its all above board legally
