I dont know whether this is technically a deal or if it will help a lot of people but considering ASDA have the Arcade for £97 instore and PC-World etc have it listed as £129 instore using the following in theory you could get an arcade for £94 brand new right there. Apparently its a better method of ensuring newer models, as asda are clearign old stock

Sounds like a good idea. Someone mentioned in the other thread that you're more likely to get a Jasper from DSG group.

I havent a clue about 360's personally, Jaspers etc makes no sense but did strike me as a good loophole for now and saves a few quid for those not really near an asda etc

obviously this is going to be one of those hit or miss deals...Hit for those that want and arcade and fancy going to PC world and asking, miss for those that dont fancy the effort or dont want a 360, but do give opinions if you vote guys?

I very much doubt it. The Asda Direct site states they have 256mb inbuilt memory which makes them all Jaspers I think? From reading the threads (current and deleted) a lot of people have been getting Jaspers from Asda and the only guy who price matched got a Falcon from Currys.

As far as I can see online at PC world these arcades have 256mb memory in built which is the "jasper" description on ASDA's website...doesnt that make them the same or is it a lottery

The Jasper and Falcon thing should not make any difference to you. In summary Jasper is the latest model and in theory should be better (less noise, less chance of having the RROD, problems, lower power supply, etc)
Some people have been waiting ages to get hold of a jasper, but now that the Jasper has got a built-in memory of 256MB instead of a separate memory card it seems to me at least that is not such a good deal.

When I bought a second Arcade for my bedroom I only needed the box which I got from Marshall Ward using the £50 voucher at the time, so it cost me £80 then I sold the controller for £15 and the memory card for £10. Now if I had a Jasper I could not have sold the memory card so in my case it would have been £10 more.

Also if you have 2 XBOX or if you want to take your save games, profile, etc to play with friends with a Jasper it looks like you would not be able to do that.

So at the moment in my view the Falcon sounds better, but overall I think they are the same thing.

Cheers dude finally an answer that makes sense. Well I hope the deal helps some of the less serious gamers out there etc...The other reply about jasper wasnt exactly helpful, but you've cleared up pro's and cons etc

Currys dont seem to pricematch asda?

Who does the Currys price promise apply against? The Currys price promise applies to the lowest price offered by these retailers, whether that’s online or in-store:

Argos Comet Tesco John Lewis

It was confirmed in another thread that Curry's had price matched this, but my main emphasis was on PC-world....and as they are past of same trading group I guess you wont have any probs

hi all just to let you know i got an an xbox from asda and then had to take it back as it was a falcon. i then went to comet and asked for an xbox. one came out and it was a jasper. i then got this for £97 on the price promise.
you have a much better chance of getting a jasper from pc world, currys, comet and dixons using the pricce promise because all these shops are not trying to get rid of old stock.
the guy in comet told me they only keep a cuople of each model and when one is bought in the shop they order a new one in, so therefore you have a better chance of getting a jasper and one of these other shops using the price promis.........i did and im loving it!!

Cheers for the update pulsaruk!

got a 360 arcade delivered from asda direct - it is a falcon with a separate 256 mem card - quite happy.

The one I found instock at my local Asda was also a Falcon so I left it - Went across the road to Curry's and found theirs were Jaspers and price matched + 10% the difference.

You can check without opening the box if it's a Jasper - In the box window that shows the serial number, if you look to the far left side, it should say 11.2A 5V. You may need to jiggle the box and lift the cardboard opening a bit to see it.

Just to add heres W1zz's explination of how he got the price match

Think this thread needs bumping! Someone is a little ticked off they got a Falcon from asda today.

asda dont have the console available for immediate dispatch anymore, so you might have a bit of trouble getting pc world to pricematch. worth a try though.

if you have a store within 30 miles of the PC world, or currys etc it should still be covered but thanks for update

Just to add to the fun/confusion.....

The built-in memory only applies to Jasper Arcades (which is fine as this is what is being discussed here) but Jasper Pro (the 60gb) models don't have the built-in memory.

The only sure way to tell is a power consumption figure on the side of the unit saying 150w and 12.1 amps.

Just called Asda Leeds Crownpoint 0844 8941234. They have a fair few Arcades in stock. So if your PC World is within 30 miles of that your sorted.

Does anyone know if John Lewis operate a price matching scheme? I've got some JL vouchers that I could use.

If you have an Asda credit card and a Asda living store near you, you will get an extra 5% off :).
I got mine for £92.20 it is a falcon but im very happy with that as its my 2nd xbox and I want to transfer my daughters game saves from my hard drive and wouldnt be able to do that with a Jasper.

The other big difference of the Jasper model is both the CPU & GCPU chips are 65mm instead of 65mm & 95mm so less heat is generated along with a redesign of the motherboard & heatsink system making RROD less likely.

Try your best to get jasper consoles guys, don't be happy with falcons !

Curry's on oxford street will only price match stores within 2 miles (the nearest asda that had any was six miles away and they refused). The policy on the web site says 'local' stores which, as far as I can make out, means whatever the manager finds to be convenient at the time.

They only had one in stock which was a falcon anyway...

Went to Currys in Keighley and just as the sales guy was going to do a price beat for the jasper model his supervisor and manager jumped on the case and did everything they could to find some discrepency between the two models. Eventually they nit picked that the model on the ASDA web site had 'Go Play' printed on the box and there's didn't. All else was same even the pac-man detailing 5 free games. Their's was definately a jasper as i checked the ampage at 12.1A

The service from these guys was absolutely appalling. I tried to argue that the price beat was like-for-like but they stood their ground.

What a bunch of t*ss*rs!!! :x

Not quite my friend.

The original Xenon mobo had a 90nm CPU, GPU and RAM.
Zephyr was the same but introduced HDMI and better air flow.

The Falcon mobo introduced the 65nm (that's nanometers btw not mm  ) CPU but it also saw the GPU and RAM come down to 80nm.
There were a few other changes but it was Falcon that finally brought Xbox fail rates down to around the industry average.

Jasper (excepting the 65nm GPU) is very similar to Falcon and is beleived by many to be more about reducing production costs and not really addressing any need for better reliability.

asda's in Reading (tilehurst) has Falcons in stock @£97 today

Well would you know......
Sent an email of complaint from the Curry's web site and it came back as UN-deliverable!

I've had the last laugh though.
Went to the Birstall Retail Park Curry store this morning and managed to get a jasper on price beat.

Curry's staff seem to do their best to find discrepencies between products when asked to honour price beat policy.

Anyone know if they will price match morrisons for the DS lite?

Ended up in Asda - they let me reserve over the phone, were really helpful when I got there and it was an unblemished jasper. Beat the pants off the Currys (lack of) customer service.
