First post - please be kind

I was in my local Morrisons tonight (Petts Wood) and they had the XBOX 360 Elite 120G With Pure + Lego Batman for £100.
Package includes the 2 games + 1 wireless controller and the 120GB Elite console and SD leads.
Not sure if this is nationwide or not.

I picked one up - I know its not the new shiny model, but for this price its got to be good!

It has built in Wi-Fi
It's quieter
It has twice the hard drive space which is good for installing games on to so you don't have to play the game from the disc (just means it's a bit quieter)
It looks nicer
It's smaller
It's ready for Kinect (think you have to buy adapters for the older models but I'm not sure)

(Y)

Just don't get a 4gb one cause some games don't work on it as not enough memory.

Except it makes massive amounts of noise, is way more prone to breaking, has half the hard drive space (which is an important thing) and if you are looking at getting a Kinect, it has a dedicated port for power, unlike older xboxs.

Dont get the old version, it is only a small saving and the benefits are massive.

Sure new style is better, but a new style 360 is nearly twice this price, 120GB is more than enough space for most uses and wireless is slower and glitchier than using a cable anyhow.
I have a wireless dongle which I paid 15 quid for (N spec) and its usless for playing serious games - I switched back to ethernet cable.
I have had my old style 360 for 3 years and its still going strong, I bought this for the spare room - at this price I couldn't resist!

i've got 4gb, (traded in my 120gb elite for it and it when sainsburys had it for £150 with 2 games) plays all games fine, not a single problem on any game and 16gb usb stick you can pick one up for £12 and away you go, don't need to save games on hard drive anymore as it much quieter and safer than the elites

for anyone who bought one of these can they confirm the date on the back of the console as i think these are new old stock from October last year as that's when they had this bundle with Lego batman and pure

4gb version is ok you can upgrade HDD very cheaply

personally don't get this, the 4gb new slim is better,

if your wireless router is miles away from the TV you're gonna save say £35 on a wireless adapter as that's built in on the new one,

your kid will eventually want kinect and that's one less mains plug you need for new slim xbox slim as its plug and play,

new ones quieter as post 6 above says,

also with kinect sometime next year microsfot will stop packaging the mains cable for it to be used with the older xbox 360s so if you are not planning on getting kinect for a while that will mean buying it seperately, its what they did with newer xbox 360s

16gb usb stick from amazon £12 and away you go,

of course unless you're doing mega downloading and saving games to hard drive, new one you don't need to save to hard drive and i delete demos as soon as i've played em a few times

So what is the best (cheapest) entry level model to be able to play online and hook it up to the Kinect?

can you use an xbox 360 to play movies? (like a wd tv live?)

Halo reachhttp://hubpages.com/hub/Problems-with-Xbox-360-Slim-4GB-console

got halo reach not had a single problem whatsoever, maybe that's cus I've got a 16gb usb stick, which i think everyone should have but like i said its only £12 and if you know what you're doing there's posts on this site showing you how to insert the WD 250 gb HDD for as little as £26-£30

This may be store specific. This deal appeared 2 months back and lasted 2 weeks, but was £150 in my store. My store didn't stock the slim until after the deal expired. Those stores that had them on offer should have sold out, as there was a ton of people flogging them on eBay.

They also had the Arcades for £100.

Edited by: "bluespace77" 13th Dec 2010

That's a cracking deal, I wonder how long the offer lasts.

I guess it depends what you want to use the XBOX for - if you want to get Kinect and Wireless and dont want to download games, like shiny things and have plenty of cash.....get the new style with a kinect bundle.
If, like me, you download games and map packs, dont have a living room the size of a football pitch for Kinect and want to play Black Ops....buy this and get an internet over mains adapter (much faster and more reliable than wireless)

Yup. Plays avis (not mkvs) from disk, usb, or network.

You can't go wrong with this. £100 for an elite is a bargain.

I'm staying off the slim vs fat debate but these will be jaspers, and therefore the reliability isn't an issue. And furthermore, they can be flashed. If they have any in my local, I'll grab one to flash and sell on.

Thanks OP.

i play black ops, medal of honor, pro evo, mw2, battlefield bad company 2 all on wireless and no issues at all, also downloading map packs not an issue, 16gb usb stick is plenty for that plus the built in 4gb

Hot ! Tempted at this price

re: kinect
if you buy the retail kinect on its own then it comes with the cable (stupidly permanently embedded in the unit) which links to a supplied usb cable (connects to where the usb wireless adapter goes) and supplied power cable which goes to supplied power adapter, also comes with another cable so you can still use your wireless adapter

the new slim xbox only requires the usb cable to the kinect, no seperate power lead/power supply required

massive amounts of noise?!?? lol talk about going over the top with that comment!
Jaspers are not 'way more' prone to breaking, most reliable ones ever produced.
120gb is more than enough space for anybody.

only difference is for kinect and wifi.

if you want a present on the cheap then this will be fine. If you have to have new/kinect/wifi then buy a new xbox

I've been planning on getting the new Slim version but this deal is far too tempting. What's the failure rate and warranty like for the elite? If it's not going to fail on me within a year or two I might just have to buy one of these tomorrow!

These "should" be jaspers. So the failure rate is very minimal. Jaspers were the latest edition of fat xbox 360s and were very very reliable.

wrong

Except it makes massive amounts of noise - agree its noisy but its fine

is way more prone to breaking - agree but all xboxes are, jasper ones are better and time will tell if the new slim is same or good

has half the hard drive space (which is an important thing) - how much hd space do you need? I have about 70 games but dont play them all the time and just store the ones i play the most on the hd, 250gb would be too small for me anyway, actually so would 1tb

Kinect, it has a dedicated port for power, unlike older xboxs - no big deal, works fine on mine, makes no difference at all in gameplay...maybe a minute amount in electricity but depends

Dont get the old version, it is only a small saving - compared to the 250 its near 50% less?!

benefits are massive - name one massive benefit, i cant think of one which is why i havent bought a slim yet....it does look alot nicer though, glossy black stloen from pioneer and logitech

well my 1st jasper one lasted 5 mins, 2nd one has been ok for 6 months (if you think thats bad i had 6 fail and 1 stolen in 2009!)

the slim might be the same chipset but i think they said theyd improved the cooling

Royals you have way too much time on your hands get a life how would 1tb not be enough. Somebody is trying to sound tech proud. Please dont listen to him

We have 3 Elites in the house and none of them have broken/RROD'd/etc, nor are any of them that noisy during gameplay.

120GB is plenty of space for MOST gamers.

I have Kinect on the one in the living room and although it does take up an extra plug, the electricity it uses is minimal.

I think this is a safe bet for people looking for a cheap Christmas present or if they can't afford the 250gb Slim.

Smokin hot.... and you can make a few ££ too
