As the title states, instore only as far as im aware, Ive just been to the Birchwood Asda and got an Xbox Elite with the Res Evil 5 Game and Official Black Pad for £199.

It wasnt advertised but came up when the chap serving me on the games counter scanned it through the till!

Not sure if it was a bug or nationwide but im very happy as my old 360 died of RROD last night!!

It was the standard Elite console pack which was £199 and the res evil 5 and controller box which scanned at £29.99 but then was netted off as an Xbox bundle when the total was added up!

which store was this in ?

It was the Warrington Birchwood store.

Is it a Jaspar or Falcon console?

no such thing as a jasper elite is there, thought jasper was the arcade only

Exceptional deal if it's nationwide. but if it's just a lcoal deal then cold because i can't buy it :x. lol

Why did you buy an Elite if yours RRODd, you already have a HDD so you might aswell have bought an Arcade. (unless the one that broke was an arcade)

Anyone see Watchdog the other night?

southampton store had no idea of this offer...console is 227 by itself.

Seems to be the Pro as well. My bro got one from Amazon last week. I posted it in Misc, but no one cared.

Yeah i saw that, I'm amazed microsoft haven't had far more legal problems with the xbox considering the rrod problem & now the e74 problem happening far more often not to mention this disc scratching problem. stick with a nintendo or sony machines as at least they will work (working seems like a key issue for an electronics component to me, lol).

Every person i know including myself who has owned an xbox has had it break, I've never had an issue with a snes, mega drive, dreamcast, game gear, gameboy, nintendo ds, psp, ps2, ps3, wii, etc.

Great deal! - You can add me to that list of people you know that had a broken xbox lol... Just got mine back from germany yesterday. Oh and btw didnt the PS2 suffer from terrible disc read errors. Nothing can be perfect though, im just glad Microsoft has fixed mine for free!!!

Voted hot btw

Just found it here bbc.co.uk/ipl…09/

Segment is from 2 mins to 10 mins. All about the disc scratching like you say, nothing to do with RROD unfortunately.

In summary it looks like general household vibrations caused the old ones to scratch, whereas the newer ones are fine. But if you have an old one that scratches the disk Microsoft doesn't give a toss.

Apparently a class action lawsuit is being prepared in the states. I hope they pwn M$

You can watch it on iPlayer on the BBC website. I watched the bit about the 360 last night as I was out running when the program was on TV!

If you do get a scratched disc you can get it repaired pretty easily, had it happen to me (i did move it whilst it was on..) and it cost me about £5. They send you and envelope and you send your disc off and it comes back fixed after a few days! Super!!

+1, although I didn't have the game gear, gameboy or Wii.

I have, however had 3 xbox 360's that have broken.

Theres no getting away from the fact theyve been shoddily built, but in my opinion, they have the best games (Halo and GOW) so are worth the pain!

good deal

Hot Deal

I've had
4 x 360's all RROD
2 x PS3's (1st one the Dvd/Blu-ray drive broke, Sony said if you leave a disc in wehn you turn it off it can cause it to break?)

H+R added

Can anyone confirm this offer is available in any other asda store ?

Your disks must have looked very different to mine! With all the will in the world you wouldn't repair the ones that my friends damaged.

My first 360 lasted 10 months

I asked if they had any offers on and he said no but he then mentioned that there was a pack available for £29.99, so i said ok i'll take that too and when he scanned it it went through on the till as an xbox bundle and netted the £29.99 back off again, i think i must just have got lucky!!!

All this hoo haa about RROD..

Not terribly difficult to fix..

Ofc, you do need a little experience putting PCs together...

Find your local Geek (surely everyone these days has at least one geeky mate) & challenge him/her to fix it for you....

When Microsoft designed the 360, they chose a slightly unusual way of … When Microsoft designed the 360, they chose a slightly unusual way of mounting theheat sinks to the processors. When the console is running, there is a tremendousamount of heat build up inside the case. This causes the motherboard to flex against theX-Clamp support plastic, which in turn can cause the soldered joints onthe processors to come away from the motherboard itself. This results in the Red Lightsof Death.Due to the inefficient design of the heat sink clamping method, this is a very largeproblem. Although Microsoft haven’t (as of yet) come up with a decent design fix. On thelatest ‘Elite’ versions of the console they have used epoxy resin to ‘glue’ the corners ofthe processors down to stop the flexing that causes this error. Whethertheir fix will stand the test of time remains to be seen. What this modification achieves is to alleviate board flexing andapply uniform pressure to the processors. This uniform pressure is enough to ‘remake’the faulty joints resulting in a working console. Also, because the pressure on theprocessors is uniform the heat sinks do a much better job of dissipating the heat buildup.

a few screws, washers and a bit of thermal compound.. easy peasy..

obviously, if it's still in warranty, send it back.. Just don't get ripped off payin for a relatively simple fix..

Thanks so do you mean there was a £30 pack containing the game and an extra controller and it making it around £230 and it knocked off £30 do you have a recipt you can scan would love to have a print out i could take in as my local says £230 for console not £199

I'm amazed this has got soo hot considering it appears that only one person in the uk has got this deal.

Just had my first xbox repaired for RROD under warranty too - 13 months it lasted

Seems to be much quieter now so quite happy

Sadly "games" is a key issue for games consoles, too.

And the 360 whoops the bottoms of sony and (especially) nintendo, so well worth the possible hassle.

And FWIW, I've had my 360 for over 2 years now without any sign of rrod, (wish the thing would die, though - would like a new, quieter one :))

I would say that the ps3 looks like the system to get this year with exclusives such as: killzone2, uncharted 2, god of war 3, etc. I've had a look at upcoming titles for the 360 & there isn't really anything good thats an exclusive. Worth getting an xbox if you haven't played gears of war, halo 3, etc but if you have i would say the ps3 is looking like the best machine for games this year (price cut would help alot aswell). Plus you can watch blurays which is a bonus.

So has anyone apart from the OP actually got one at this price?

I've just read the comments on this thread and I can't for the life of me think why anyone would buy this console!! What a shoddily made piece of carp! I see so many xbox fanboys who defend their console too, idiots.
