You can't. Cheapest is around £8 each delivered from some Australian websites - do a search on here, there are plenty of threads.

Still a good deal voted hot.

Great deal - not sure whether to get one though

My first few batches of HD DVD's have started arriving from dvdcrave.com they cost around £17inc P&P per THREE films

The HD-DVD drive itself does not upscale DVD's, the xbox 360 does via HDMI or VGA and does this even with the built in dvd player.

How many times are we gonna have to put this on threads before we manage to quash whoever started this rumour in the 1st place

Still a good deal though now that Amazon don't have any left at £34.99 which in turn PCWorld were pricematching and having an instore price of £114.99 were ending up with people paying £26.99 for them

lol, tongue in cheek can be funny to the right audience

go hd-dvd!

sooooooold out. I want one but my 360 is currently being used as a doorstop, chopping board, step and rear light for my bike.

Voted Cold as only can be used with the current selection of movies. Will be the next VideoDisk player if you remember them. No more movies are being produced in HD-DVD so be warned!

I don't think you understand the voting system.

my xps vista machine seen it straight away and recognises it as a HD drive, the only thing it doesnt see
is some HD memeory thing in the device manager it doesnt affect the player i think , but if you either use windows update after you have plugged the drive in or search for the drivers from the device manager itll find them,,,

but seriously its no trouble start to stop in 5 mins max ,,,:whistling:

Don't know about external, but internal works fine.

You'll need to get a decoder seperately.

so if i connect this via my laptop which has vista it should be ok? can i then connect that to my Tv, my tv has VGa, dvi. My laptop has vga and s video

I'd just like to thank all those who voted this cold, and mentioned Blu-Ray.

There was a reason I put:

"Dead format... blah blah blah..." in the initial post.

I am well aware of its shortcomings. That doesn't mean some people, myself included, don't mind forking out a few quid for one.

I don't know the ins and outs but HDCP protection might not let you do that. Depends on your laptop and tv I think. Might be software around to get past that, I haven't looked in to it.

why expired its still available....

just because YOU dont want to buy it...doesnt mean you have to spoil the deal for ppl who do

Don't bother with HD-DVD unless you have a unit already and want some cheep movies for a while ............ the plug has been pulled for making any more of them in favour of Blue-ray.

To be honest though, unless you've got a 50" widescreen tv or bigger, you hardly get value for money for either format as the human eye below this size of screen or at a certain distance (depends on the TV etc but assume your chair is 3m away from the box) cannot clearly define the extra definition of the formats unless you are very close to the TV.

The first part i think everyone knows and the second well, if you cant tell the difference between a hd signal and an sd signal on say a 20 inch hd tv, then you really should visit an optician.

SD DVDs can look stunning upscaled. With a 20 inch TV you need to visit a doctor if you feel the need to buy a blu-ray player.

All this rubbish about betmax v vhs, does anyone remember there was no other way to watch home movies in those days apart from reel to reel projectors?
We still have SD DVD totally dominating the video market, Blu-Ray owners shouldn't be so smug, technology changes too quickly, they want our money, this is a bargain forum dedicated to getting entertained on the cheap.

Correction: The first part not everybody knows, and it is not being highly publicised by retailers as they don't want to be left with dead stock like they have been with VHS and as happened with betamax.

Secondly, if you could tell the difference at 3m on a 20" Tv then either you had a terrible TV beforehand (black and white?) or you should come and see me so I can examine you as you're a medical prodigy - i'd be sure to walk through my 'DO' finals year in a year or so from the BMA if you would like to be my case study!
