Picked one of these up at the Friern Barnet store this afternoon.
Only a 20gig version bit still better than a basic arcade version.

Since these were discontinued some time ago they'll be fitted with the old motherboards which are prone to failure. IMO You're better off buying a Jasper Arcade with 512MB built in memory. Buy a cheap 20GB hard drive off eBay if you really need it.

Great Deal and dont forget if it does go wrong (i still have my launch console) your covered for 3 years from the date of purchase through Microsoft. They will pick it up by Courier and get it back to you in about a 7 day turn around if it does go wrong:thumbsup:

Agreed. Although these have like a 1 in 3 chance of breaking down, it's a good price considering the 3 year guarantee! Heat from me.

Hdmi?

I have had my Xbox 360 since Nov 2005 and not had a single problem with mine. Still going strong with 5+ hours a day use between movies/gaming etc for the family.

Everything electronic will eventually break if you use it regularly, but since I've had mine coming up for 4 years now I can't complain if it were to break. Obviously it will break one day.

Also extremely true and agreed

Im voting cold because if you buy one of these then your end up getting a million replacements, - because it's old with an old motherboard which will epically fail on you and cause you heartache. Your much better buying a new xbox with a jasper chipset. Though it might seem a good price and you would get a 3 yr warranty, it would be much better imo to pay more for a better version.

(I have an xbox, and I love it)

Got one nearly a year ago, this era (the final 20gb models) and it's been fine

nice price heat from me

or you could save your self time and money in the long run and buy a PS3!

If this breaks (which admittedly, is very likely), the replacement you get from MS will be new Opus (?) motherboard, the same design as Jasper just still without HDMI. So it should break once only.

The turnaround time for me was 10 days when I had mine replaced, including shipping both ways.

These almost certainly won't have HDMI for anyone wondering. But on most TVs component cables (included) give a HD picture just as good, if that's what you're worried about.

Adison - I realise you're a xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx fanboy, but unfortunately paying over the odds for a console that developers won't support and are threatening to drop left right and centre (because how expensive and how much of a pain in the **** it is to develop for) isn't a good idea either.

How will you save money in the long run if the repair is free?

If you're really unlucky and not convered by free repair, you're going to need at least two paid repairs before you even meet the retail price of the PS3.

If anyone watched the one show, they had a piece on the Xbox 360 and under trading standards law all electrical goods have a possible 6 years shop warranty covering malfunction of goods

Not so much true. 360 Component = 720p, HDMI = 1080p (on compatable source material).

Have to vote cold on this. For the following reasons.

1. The 20GB premiums are guaranteed Xenons. Xenon Xbox360's are the absolute pits, and seriously defective and run hotter than the sun (good luck playing one for any length of time in the summer your room will feel like your inside an oven).

2. The Xenons are also the model without an HDMI rear port.

3. When it breaks down, not if, Microsoft in Europe will only ever swap it for another Xenon, you will never ever get a Jasper, Falcon, Valhalla or anything else. Also the Opus motherboards are only being put into 360s in America, not the German repair center which handles Europe, they give out Xenons and that is all.

My strong advice would be to buy a Jasper Arcade with a free game and then get a 20GB Hard Drive second hand from Ebay or CEX.

The Jasper 360 is good, and would recommend it, but the Xenon is not and would say for you to burn your money than pay out for one of those.

Hope this is some use to anyone.

i'm sorry, but this is not better than an Arcade.

these will have the old Xenon motherboard with a +30% failure rate,
& the new Arcades will have a Jasper motherboard with an extremely low failure rate.

unless you like playing games - in which case you're going to be better off buying an Xbox.

and it would be cheaper unless you buy your games second hand - most PS3 games are more expensive... on the rare occasion you find one worth buying of course.

Sorry but thats just not true. Anything electronic which is well designed, well made and used and stored in the correct manner should last a lifetime if not forever. Most stuff on the market is varying degrees of shoddy. But if you can't tell the good stuff from the crap in the shop, price is usually the deciding factor. Therefore more profit in cheap crap.

Much fairer to say anything with moving parts will eventually fail. Anything that moves will wear out eventually.

No offence intended.:whistling:

u cant vote cold for that. can u get it cheaper? no, so its a hot deal. if u want one buy one, if not no ones forcing you, so its a good deal for whoever wants one.

personally I've had a 20gb since launch and bought an elite for the rest of the family on its release, and havent have a problem with either (have a 80gb ps3 too with no probs)

maybe im just lucky...

I said the same thing, until mine went for the first time at christmas. Then again. Then again.

Anyway, you seem to need educating. This site is about VALUE. Not about price. If something is crap, but cheap, that doesnt make it good value, and hence not a good deal.

IE. If I sold a bag of human sh*t for 20p - you can't buy it any cheaper than that anywhere else, but its still not a 'deal'. At the end of the day it might be the cheapest, but its still a bag of human sh*t.

If you can buy something for a tiny bit more, but has huge amounts more value, its a far better deal.

no i dont need educating. if weve both bought one along with millions of other people then theyre not that crap are they. if its the cheapest you can get and you want one , its a good deal, and trust me there will be plenty who want one. just because they have a high failure rate, doesnt mean any deal is cold!

fool.

Just because the new ones may be better doesn't guarantee anything. Brand new Elite, barely used, died after a month. The repair time is good though, they pick it up next day or the day after, and it takes 2-3 weeks and it's done.

And if anyone wonders, I also have a 60gb launch PS3 which has never broken down, but I've been extremely lucky that no Sony console has ever failed on me. 360s may be more likely to but doesn't mean PS3s/Wiis are immune.

Yes you can. It's not a matter of personal preference as nobody can legitimately claim to prefer the old faulty model, it's only worth getting if you manage to get it dirt cheap. £99.99 isn't dirt cheap enough, hence cold.

Uh... not wishing to distract you all from flaming old xbox's/PS3's/each other, but has this deal been confirmed in any stores yet? No offence to the OP, but if it's a one off in one store then the whole thing is basically moot.

I`ve had 4 of these [email protected]!! Last one cemented my change to PS3! Not saying the 360 is *****, it`s juxt so unreliable!
Still voted HOT, becouse it`s good if you`re lucky enough to get a good one.

As far as I'm aware nobody in the UK has ever reported getting an Opus as a replacement. Only a few have ever been spotted and I think they were all in America. People I know who've recently had their Xenons replaced got refurbed Xenons in return, just with the new heatsinks attached. So Microsoft are still recycling the same crap which will only fail again later down the line.

I don't understand why P33 fanboys are so obsessed with posting in Xbox threads to defend their beloved consoles. Like the PS3 has anything even remotely to do with this deal . Besides, all your figures are totally inaccurate, biased and show you to be nothing more than a stupid fanboy. For someone who simply wants to play videos games you can't argue that the 360 isn't better value for money at nearly a third the cost of a PS3.

To those saying their launch consoles are fine count yourselves very lucky. The early 360s all have the same design flaws so it's just a matter of time before they die on you.
