What's the point to have these if people have android smart TV's?

No point if you have a TV already as it would have a built in tuner but if using a monitor then this gives you freeview TV viewing capability I suppose.

Can be handy for HTPC/PVR type applications depending on compatibility/drivers etc. I find catchup TV applications good enough for my needs these days but over the years have used many DVB-S/T/S2/T2 cards and sticks and would have loved to have paid only £5.95 for them.

You can use these on Linux but not Windows.

This has been the same price on eBay for some time now.
These can be found in Poundland for cheaper.
Anyone with a shield does it work in the UK on the shield? I know the freeview app comes later but Iwouldn’t mind one of these for now

Yes I guess it might be handy for some people and it's super cheap... it also lets you do basic live pause and such like.

Was £3 or something from shop to for ages, I have one but don’t use it anymore. The 30 mins pause/rewind feature is okay for the cash. Wouldn’t pay a tenner.

This might be a stupid question. But my bedroom is in a summerhouse detached from the main house. I don't have a TV aerial for my TV. If I plugged this into my Xbox would I get tv without an aerial?

Thanks in advance

No it won't work without an aerial connected.

Hi. No. You need an aerial the same as a normal TV. This is more if like me you have an aerial socket and a monitor.

If you have somewhere else in the main house with Ethernet and an aerial this might solve your problem. You can use the app on Xbox. It’s not perfect but I have it linked to plex and does the job.

Side note it’s miles better than a portable aerial for sure!
Really annoyed by the Series X lack of HDMI in, my One X still has my Sky box running through it and I use Alexa to turn the X and then the TV on I only have 4 HDMIs and one of those is a HDMI 2.0 so I can’t afford to lose another one.

While the Kinect rarely works for turning on/off I still use it for muting and pausing TV so I don’t want to lose that function either, just add a internal mic and keep the IR blaster and I’ll be happy to bin the camera.

I looked at using on PC a while ago, but at that time I don't think there were drivers. I think there may have been for ubuntu, but I'd check.
Was a much better product when the Xbox still had the snap feature. Now you might as well just watch the TV without the Xbox on.

Aye £5 in Poundland; Now if the TV license was abolished this type of thing would be popular
Or just watch TV on ur TV??? Lol

I've got mine on a projector so this could come in useful for a bit of TV watching.
If you don’t have Prime, you’d be better ordering from ebay. I got one from this seller last week - brand new as described.

Can these be used to create a device that is superior to a humax FVP 5000? TIA
Use this on my Projector.

Well there is a point, and that is so you can just use the xbox for everything rather than flit between the TV and the Xbox.
So that xbox that is plugged into your tv, this device allows you to watch tv on your tv.
wait that doesnt sound right, this device allows you to watch tv on your tv while using the extra electricity used by your xbox....there we got there in the end
I got one of these and added it to my Plex server. Worth the £6 to be able to watch UK TV when traveling for work!

What OS are you running your Plex server on? I tried this on my raspberry pi for it to feed into my Plex server and I couldn’t get it to work.
These work on Linux but not on Windows or on the Shield.

A raspberry pi has enough grunt to record live TV btw

Have Plex Docker running atop of Ubuntu and this works great. Needs to be a recent Linux install for the drivers to be included in the kernel.

THIS was the best resource I found for getting it all setup along with obtaining the firmware.

In theory yes, but it depends what you’re wanting to do. With these you could technically 24/7 record the full Freeview HD mix and have it available to stream to any device inside or outside the house.

If you’re just watching in your living room, can’t really beat a dedicated Humax box.
I have one of these, running on an Android Box with Coreelec installed. Setup Tvheadend, & use it as a TV DVR
Don't bother with these. I got one super cheap a while ago and can't even use it. They have no updates for it and it just doesn't work.
Gonna give this a go with plex for basically creating a rough dvr.
Saw one of these in my local pound land yesterday think it was £5 didn't think it was a deal

Also allows you to control TV through xbox. Convinience. Swap between both instantly. I think you can also split screen. Not my thing but more about convinience I'd imagine
