Xbox One Digital TV Tuner £5.95 including free 1st Class Delivery. I know this won't appeal to everyone but at this price is a worthwhile accessory or stocking filler. I bought one a few months ago at a slightly higher price and use it more than I thought I would.

You could always pair it up with the PDP Talon Media Remote: hotukdeals.com/dea…591

Are these any good

I've got no complaints, seems to pick up all the channels and picture quality is good. I don't use it as my main source of TV but is handy when my other half is watching something terrible like Housewives of Orange County or some other mind rotting dross!

I'm not sure as I've never tried. I can check when I get home from work and let you know.

Yes, you do.
I keep seeing this drop in price but am still slightly clueless as to it's actual use.

Aside from me connecting my digital antenna to my TV, what benefits do I get for £5.95 by connecting it to this device and then into the Xbox.

My slight understanding was the benefit of the snap feature but with that going, is that the reason for the price drop?

Yes, just plugs through. Madness not to get one at this price.

Sounds like you may be better getting something like a NowTV box or Amazon Fire Stick. Although you can't watch Live TV through them, they do have the catch-up apps/channels. They are a little more expensive but I think somebody posted a deal recently for NowTV boxes for £10 at Asda.

There is no reason not to. I have a aerial running to both TV & Xbox Tuner. I like the way the Xbox integrates TV with my Xbox dash.

Get the flat tv ariels on amazon or ebay for like £6.sticks to the window and picks up free view HD.

Everytime I see this product. This is the question that I think of automatically
Microsoft scrapped snap with the last update

I may be wrong but it sounds like your son is using a PC monitor to display an image from his xbox.
If this IS the case then this tuner is EXACTLY what he needs to be able to watch TV as the fact that his xbox monitor/display doesn't have an ariel on it is unimportant as the arial connects to the tuner being sold here. (Monitors do not contain TV tuners which is exactly what this IS)
Handy for me as my XBOX connects to a Projector so I can put TV on if needed without using a separate freeview box (which will also use another HDMI port on my amp).
For those running Libreelec there's work being done to get this working with tvheadend. If you have a raspi there's a version with modified drivers that people have got working. Works with dvb-t1/2 (which is SD and HD over the air broadcasts) and also dvb-c (though you're not allowed to bypass your cable box to use a PC as a PVR).

It's handy when on the Xbox just see what's on TV plus integrates well with the guide. Not my main source but for a fiver very handy.
Can't stream though when streaming Xbox to laptop unfortunately.
This is yet another thing I have bought via hukd in the past that I have absolutely no need for because it was a bargain. Heat. Lol

Thanks, but its definitely a TV not a PC monitor.

Thanks will have a look.
The main benefit for me, because I rely on freeview, is the ability to pause live TV when that kid should be in bed but his face keeps appearing at the living room door.
Ordered one for my son. Thanks op

Works fine with a portable aerial.
I have this. I don't know if it's my area in Lincolnshire and hence the choices I get when setting up. But itv hd and BT showcase hd do not appear in the main lineup. I have to scroll right passed all the channels (and radios) and there they are with no information next to them too. Haven't been able to resolve it in the settings. My only gripe with it.
is this purely an xbox device or is it just a usb tv tuner that I could use with my PC?

I am still annoyed by the removal of this feature, the joys of playing Forza while streaming YT or Netflix on the top right, now all gone.

Personally, no.
Constantly blocky, glitches n freezes.
Mine's in the drawer.

I don't believe so. You can pause but not record. As of early 2016 Microsoft decided not to develop the recording functionality.

It's entirely down to drivers. I couldn't find any for Windows (though someone might release some) but I think there are some for Linux. As mentioned in my previous post there's people working on this for Libreelec, which is a stripped down Linux operating system with just enough to run kodi as a front end. It runs on various platforms, one of which is PC.

Assuming you use your pc for other things you'd either need to set up a bootable partition or drive that you swap to as required, or run it in virtualbox or VMware.

I have it on an HTPC and when I last tried it showed up as a tuner but I was unable to scan any channels.

That sounds like a poor aerial signal.

I'd have presumed that. But plugging the aerial back into the tv means the problems stop, so defo something with the unit.
Just something to consider.
It is a noted problem on the MS forums, one without answer.
Luck of the draw, I guess.

Perhaps these require a slightly stronger signal for some reason. When I use an inside aerial it's a fine line between a picture and what you describe. And if so they may all be like that or just some. On the TV tuning screen it often tells you the signal strength if it's something you were interested in ruling out or in.

Correct I bought one of these after Microsoft announced a recording feature would be coming but Microsoft cancelled those plans as part of their strategy to focus almost exclusively on games rather than making the X1 an all in one games and media box. You can pause TV but not record.
Last I read about this it had no Linux drivers, anyone know if the situation has changed? Would make a great cheap tuner for PC use and expanding tuner options on Enigma 2 based Linux boxes via USB.
