Summary in the vain hope that this doesn't descend into the same discussion loop of every other deal for the all-digital edition:

No, it doesn't have an optical drive.
No, you can't wire one up (well, without an awful lot of complex, warranty-destroying modding that is both a tonne of delicate work and no cheaper than just buying the version with a drive is that's what you want.)
But Yes, external hard drives do work for adding storage above the 1TB built in.
Yes, the Xbox Online Store sales are pretty great value that unless you're a person who regularly sells their games you'll manage.
Yes, this is an ideal purchase if you're going to just get Game Pass and not bother owning titles at all.
Yes, launch prices for AAA titles from the likes of EA and Activision are pretty expensive on the online store if those are the only games you buy and you won't wait for sales.
Yes, once you've bought a game once you can re-download it later, even after you've replaced the console with a different one or the shop has stopped selling it for new people.

edit - one other useful question came up, not regarding All Digital vs. the regular One S, but instead to the fancypants X version. Only the X will output games at 4k resolution, even these cheaper versions of the Xbox One S can use the HDR colours of a 4k TV; it's only the sharpness of the pixels you're missing out on.

As a PC gamer I haven't bought a game on a disk for over 15 years, you can redeem games from cdkeys.com & other online stores, the CD drive is redundant IMO. Simply buy a game code/key and do the following:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select Home. ...On the Home screen, scroll right and select the Microsoft Store icon.Select Use a code.

More and more inclined to think that the UK isn't going to see these prices now.

Use a browser with a translator. Chrome has a translate tool in the address bar on desktop, or in the menu on Android.

Yes, absolutely, language is selected on starting up for the first time. Equally, languages can be changed in games if need be, however I'd imagine English may well be the default on redeeming on an account set to the UK/English language. I'm sure kids in this day and age can figure this out on Xmas day

A disc drive for a console is not plug n play and adding an external disc drive would not work. It isn't possible to add an external disc drive to the xbox one all digital

I can't see it getting any cheaper, I would order before stock runs out if I were you. I've ordered one ready for xmas, it will just need a figure of eight lead swapping.

They do actually sometimes ship out stock from UK warehouses depending on customer location, availability and demand, so getting a box with info in English isn’t out of the question

I've already got a huge digital library and have Gamepass til early 2022 so should be ok really but if you're new to Xbox then could be a struggle

This console is really designed for Gamepass

A PS4 version without a drive would not work imo. Ps now isn't good enough

Good price if you want to go the digital route, but personally not for me. The beauty of these older consoles is that you can pick up games on disk for next to nothing as they age, you can build up a decent collection over time and sell the whole lot on without incurring a significant loss. With this you're locked into purchasing all your games at MS prices, and when it's time to sell, you have nothing to pass on, exchange etc. unless you want to give someone else your MS account!

I've still heated as this is a good price. Do have a think before you buy.
