Looking at those prices, I'd recommend getting the 500GB model and then picking up an external 2TB Harddrive, it will be much cheaper, £90 extra for an additional 1.5TB of space, what is it with the tech companies, they seem to think it's OK charging stupid prices for extra storage. Phone vendors, console makers they all seem to do it.

I'd rather pay the extra to get the storage built in, hate having my external for my Xbox one as its just a brick
do they take cash now?

My 2tb is pretty small and I just sit it on top of the non vent side of the Xbox. It's only about 1/4 of the non vent side in size.

I have seen hard drive attachments out there, clip onto the side, looks quite OE.
Have they said when the 1tb/500gb will be released ? I've preordered the 2tb for now but may go for 1tb if much cheaper.

Yeah seen them myself, they look ok but dunno about the reliability, my external is. 2TB seafarers and it's not massive but a bit of a minimalist!

big advantage with an external is load times is a hell of a lot faster

how come? I am suspecting you mean that you can get a disk with faster spindle rpm or ssd. But thought it would be negligible once
going over the USB port versus the internal.
After the Scorpio announcement it makes absolutely zero sense to buy this. Don't know why MS even bothered releasing it considering they themselves made it obsolete an hour after announcing it. Plus they haven't even reduced the RRP so aren't passing any savings onto customers. This is a poor investment IMO.

like the awful external power pack
Cold, it was made obsolete less than an hour after it was announced. It will be outdated within 6 months, this is money down the drain, better off waiting for the scorpio, or getting the original version cheaper.
So what advantage does this have over normal xbone? Has it got more powerful cpu/memory? Will games upscale to 4k or is there absolutely no point in it?

Not really, plenty of people don't have one and will appreciate a slimmer model with increased storage space and uhd bluray drive. I reckon I'll swap for one for the form factor and large internal drive rather than plugging in a an external. For me it's the uhd bluray though, think the Samsung player is around £400 so this is a no brainer imo

Only really useful if you want to watch stream netflix in 4K or UHD discs.

Technically all consoles upscale or your TV does, otherwise you'd have a small windowed display on your 4k screen. I've got numerous consoles connected to a 4k display. There nothing really new about this apart from a uhd bluray drive. The controller is now Bluetooth as well which is handy, the console is 40% slimmer and has larger internal storage options. If none of that matters, get the normal version.

Thanks, Ill stick with my current xbone then and wait until the next gen or this scorpio comes out.

Not true at all!
The Scorpio won't be released for at least 17/18 months or so, will cost a hell of a lot more, and this officially the cheapest 4k BR player in the UK.
Not to mention the improved 4k streaming apps, the improved visual fidelity by the bumped chipset, the smaller, more power efficient unit, the improved controller...
Oh, and don't forget, that when the Scorpio IS released, this unit will in fact, continue to work just fine.
Honest.
It won't burst into flames or anything!!
How did it take Microsoft 3 years to release a slimmer console, that Sony have been making for 3 years?
As for the OP, the 1tb model looks a bargain!!
Think I may be in there... was contemplating the 2tb, but I suppose I can make do with 1
You need at least 2TB. I've used 650GB already.

I'd imagine Scorpio will be quite a bit more expensive.

Oh dear, MS are giving out free chips for that salt during E3.

Thats true, but it would seem more sensible to put the money for this towards the scorpio, I can imagine anyone spending £229+ for this in August will have a huge amount of buyers remorse just a few months later.

My thoughts exactly. Get a cheap uhd drive and watch 4k content on my uhdtv. Plus I'll off set the cost by selling my xbox one.

I have a Toshiba 2TB Canvio drive plugged into my XBO, the thing is tiny, easily sits behind the console out of site and out of mind. Takes up a heck of allot less space than the power brick. I'd much rather have an external drive personally, mainly because in case of a drive failure, it's allot easier to replace a external drive than opening up the whole system to replace the internal drive. Maybe MS will go back to their 360 days and make it easy to replace the drive.

I wasn't planning on getting a slim, but the slimmer design and the UHD Blu ray drive does sound appealing and I am interested to see what that HDR gaming malarky it all about, though I would need a HDR compatible 4K TV to take advantage of it so probably will never get to use those features. I also want that new controller.

Though I should probably save the money for a 4K TV and the Scorpio for next year.

Its all about choice, I have no need for an xbox or 4k capable xbox, but if i did want an xbox i would be going for this slim one, im not paying extra for scorpio and ts 4k capabilities when it is zero use to my interests.
I am sure plenty will be the same, not all of us care for 4k and def would not want to pay extra for it, plus the original xbox one is horrible ulgy and huge, so this slim one looks more appealing for me if i ever decided to get one.

We shall see, I reckon it'll be a huge hit, already a few mates of mine (not gamers) are gonna buy it just for the 4K capabilities. The "s" is a brilliant console and a day one purchase for me as will the Scorpio !

exactly, horses for courses. I like my Xbox 360 for quick to get into games and use my pc gaming rig for my more graphically intensive multiplayer games. for me the appeal of the Scorpio is less so than for the one S as I already fork out a lot on the rig. With the addition of play anywhere for some of the AAA titles this will be perfect for me (one S and pc). Everyone will have a preference, Microsoft are just being smart in expanding their product line to capture more market share.
back up - rude to ignore the 1TB for that price
If you dont have an Xbox One and were thinking of getting one this year - go for the Xbox One S but anybody already with an Xbox One will see no reason to go for this and may just go for the Scorpio in 18 months time
I had a small western digital external 2tb plugged into the side usb for about a year but it bricked recently on one of the updates. 500gb is definately too small, many game installs are 50gb+. Battlefield 4 / COD is nearer 60gb if i remember with the dlc. Too little 4k content to warrant buying this over a standard black bundle or the elite one with the ssd.

Damn! That's exactly what I wanted. A smaller factor of that thing... Does anyone want to buy my white xbone? I'd switch for this little guy.
