I bought a plain white one with no games, for £264.99, a few months ago.

No regrets! Now have ultimate gamepass until August 2022 with plenty of games to play.

It's out of stock as it was on here with an extra controller for that price so I don't think it's that unpopular as you make it sound

Dread to think of the rrp

Let's hope it's not another PS3 like launch were the RRP is ridiculously high and still selling at a loss

I think both consoles will be either £499 each , or £549 each. (PS5 and Xbox Series X)

As long as both are similar price, sales wont go down.

The One X sold very well at £449 due to how powerful it was, these new consoles being even more powerful can easily sell for a bit more.

Either way, very excited for E3 2020!!

Based on the rumoured specs I can see it being £599...it’s looking like it’s going to be very punchy specification wise!

Still a year left to go though? Support for the X won’t dry up overnight either. I think we will see a lot of cross generation games for the first few years so the X could do quite well out of it.

Punch a gaping hole in my wallet as well

Can't see the PS5 being more than 449 so if MS launch at 599 they are in trouble
That looks genuinely terrible... Reminds me of those loo blocks in urinals....

No one is saying it wont be but if you can afford this the now isnt it better to put it towards the new gen.

Not sure, I think MS know that the X was at a fairly high price point and they had success with it. It seems like they are happier to have the more powerful system regardless of that means they come second place in sales. But yeah I think Sony will smash it with the PS5, they will hit the sweet spot in terms of pricing.

I get that but it’s still a long way off, lots of gaming to be done between now and then. You could always sell the X later on or keep it as a second machine for another room. Anyway, happy new year
It's the American market that matters most. They simply won't go over $499 on a console. If the Xbox is more expensive, there will be an entry level edition as to meet the $499 price point.

£600 for a console? Lmao. That's gaming pc territory (tower, not laptop). Anyone willing to pay £600 for a console rather than a PC needs their head examined. Fortunatly both Sony and MS know this too.

I think consoles are turning into gaming pc's anyway. I miss the old days of the Sega megadrive where you put the cartridge and away you go. Now I turn on my console I have to wait for it to load, then update (insider program), then put game in, then wait for it to load, etc. Then you have all these apps, internet, etc -0 starting to see no difference beetween my pc and console except for sitting in the lounge?

Why? You will struggle to build a PC that offers similar performance of a Series X for £600. Not to mention the fact that it will likely have a 5+ year shelf life. A hundred pound a year over its life cycle seems like good value to me. I would rather have a Series X at £600 than a £600 PC. The PC won’t be anywhere near as well optimised when you look at the SSD implementation they will be running on next gen consoles.

Next gen should combat this with their use of SSD. It seems like they are trying to get back to the original plug and play concept.

To be honest consoles biggest advantage is the optimization that is put in by game developers for the specific hardware and that's why it is hard to build competing PC's at the same price range as consoles, in the end giving them the edge in terms of families or people on a budget.

Your statement assumes we all just buy a single console during that 5 years and never need to replace breakages too. Consoles break, controllers get replaced, consoles get upgraded yadda, yadda, yadda. This gen, I have bought a normal ps4 and a pro. I've also had to buy 2 new controllers for various reasons. The notion we only ever fork out for the initial outlay during any given generation is a complete fallacy. Now, I'm not saying we ALL upgrade consoles or even buy a second one, but the fact remains, hardware costs are incurred by almost everyone that regularly uses a specific console. That's also ignoring the second paywall we all have to pay during those 5 years compared to PC users if we want to play online. Then the extra £10 or so pounds we pay for the equivalent games. Console gaming over 5 years is probably more expensive than building a £900 PC if you play more than 2 games per year.

I’ve owned pretty much every major console from the SNES onwards, and have never had a single console die on me. Guess I’m lucky. These days you don’t have to pay launch money for games if you are prepared to hang on for sales, use cd keys etc. I get the PC argument - I’ve been using PC’s for 25 years, I’ve spent small fortunes on SLI setups, water cooling the lot. It’s fun, but it’s expensive. And ultimately I prefer the integration of modern consoles and their ease of use. I think at £599 if the rumoured specs are correct the Series X will represent good value. Especially compared to the price of mobile phones, PC GPU’s and so on these days.

Phones are usually paid via instalments (plans), consoles are usually purchased via a one off transaction. Plus, most youngsters don't walk around with +£600 phones. They're usually hand me downs or previous models of more expensive phones. Youngsters make up a large portion of console players. So they're not really comparable. If you've never had a console die, then you are indeed lucky. Especially if you owned a 360.
