I thought there were only 3 versions:

Standard
Standard with 3.5mm jack
Bluetooth enabled version (with the single plastic body even around the Xbox button)

Is the last one was V4, what was actually V3?

Elite could be considered the third iteration here I'm assuming..

Could Day one Controller be considered V1? It's workings were different to the standard one that came after.

I believe so but their is different colours on offer which don't come with the Xbox one S
Note: if you're looking for a controller to replace your a broken controller then their maybe a easy fix If you take the controller apart, if it is a button issue then it's a easy fix

Just thought this might help someone

Easy to take apart and take a look, maybe some dirt on the button sensor? Plenty of videos on YouTube to show you how to do it if you are unsure

I don't think you'll be waiting that long given how quickly they're doing revisions.

This is correct. There are only 3 different model numbers for the Xbox One controller. It's possible there will be a v4 buy considering I can't find any information on a new one being released and it doesn't actually say v4 on Game's website I'm going to guess this was added by the OP and is simply a mistake.

Were they? I can't find any information on that either, except a thread where people are arguing both ways. As far as I can tell the only difference is they had Day One written on them, there doesn't seem to be a different model number for them.

No, as it's got a different name - Xbox One Elite Controller, as opposed to just Xbox One Controller. Out of all of the standard controllers there have been 3 versions. Not sure if there have been any revisions of the Elite controller - I think that's still on v1.

I have to say, of all the controllers I've ever taken apart to repair or mod (which is a lot, and just about every type from the last 20-25 years), the Xbox One controller is probably the least easy to take apart, and even worse to reassemble, especially the v1/v2 due to the separate piece of plastic across the top. Getting everything to stay in place while you clip it back together is maddening. Not saying it's too difficult, just be prepared to spend more time on it the first time as there's a knack to it.

Pushing that clip over the guide button still makes me think I'm doing it wrong. Terrible design.

Yeah, makes you feel like you're going to break it. Then the sync button falls out for the 100th time...
