it was £30 at Argos before in January, you can probably get a copy from Ebay for £30-£35

Can't recommend this game enough, it's a jrpg at its core, doesn't take itself too seriously but still has a gripping story. Over 100 hours in and still only on chapter 6 (out of 12). World is a beauty . Just go and play it now!

£5 voucher is not the same as £5 off though.

Finicky is not the same as pedantic though.

Would buy if I didn't have Odyssey and BotW to finish. Barely even scratched the surface of those games yet so this would just be adding to the pile

It's a wonderful game, undoubtedly the one I've spent the most time playing on Switch.
First impressions were fairly negative but something clicked after spending time in Torigoth.

Much prefer the Japanese voice over (Free DLC on the eShop).
Should I play through the first before this?

Don't you mean in December when it was released? And it appeared to be a missprice as stock was very limited and then the price went up to £49.99. I managed to get a copy at £30 but I'm still not sure that's a fair comparison.

Nope, there's references to the first Chronicles but it's not essential to understand anything.
Nearly completed Zelda, is this worth a pickup? I don't think ive played a Jap RPG before...

no if you use the search function you can see that it was £30 on 27th January, this is when i got the game that's why i remembered
Can't recommend this game enough, 195 hours of bliss.

Great narrative, lots of engaging content and amazing characters.

Maybe the best soundtrack i've ever heard in a game too in terms of the sheer quality/quantity (I love pretty much every theme in the game) although the original game comes close

It was one of my first JRPGs. Absolutely brilliant game. Story is amazing and the gameplay is quite different too. Highly recommended it
Used to only ever play JRPGs back in the day before eventually realising they're all the same when it comes to narrative.

Is this any different to the usual JRPG tropes?

Not really, it was sooo hyped up by Switch fans on Reddit I felt like I owed it them to try it. I just could not get into the childish dialogue, and awful resolution on handheld. I'm sure people love this game but wasn't for me.
Can't recommend the game personally. It rips far too many elements from MMORPGs and gacha systems. The story scenes and voice acting are particularly grating. It's incredibly slow to get going. It's also noticeably low resolution in handheld mode.

I can see the appeal though.

Awesome, I guess I'm buying it!
One of the best RPG of last year
Octopath Traveller, that's what I'm waiting for personally.
It was £29.99 from Argos on the games release date back in December, however I think that was a pricing error as not long after it shot upto £49.99.
Agree with others, I highly recommend this. Didn't sink as many hours as others. Probably around 100. But it really is brilliant. Haven't played with the new dlc which seems a bonus too, so we'll worth it at this price
Played it for about 30 hours and went on to other things. Need to get back into it after I beat Nier automata and ni no Kuni 2
I wanted to like this game, but I just couldn't seem to get any real traction. Every fight, even with low-level enemies, took ages, and it feld like the only way to speed up the fight was to use all of the timed arts and chain techniques, which just ended up meaning every fight was the same. Maybe I need to give it more time...

As someone who play the game with Japanese voice pack free DLC and can understand most of what's being said, I can tell you the "childish dialogue" is 100% the fault of the English script/translation. Despite the translation is accurate or at least close enough most of the time, but the choice of wording and phrases used in English is so basic and dumb-down, it's almost as if Nintendo wanted to make sure that kids playing it would not have difficulty understanding the story.

I wish they had a free DLC for changing the text from English to Japanese as well, but keeping the game navigation interface in English.

Got it for £30 in January. Took me about 50 hours to start really enjoying it. Am now on chapter 9 and am 90 hours in. Pure class.
I just completed this game on Thursday, hours of fun.

I may have to give it another chance... Nia saying "I'll bash you up proper next time, I swear", made me lose interest extremely fast. If I do try it again I'd need to switch it to Japanese voices, the voices (mainly Nia) are horrific... I live in Wales and I still can't imagine a worse accent for any game, let alone a JRPG.
Amazing game.

Ha! Yes I feel as if I’m being talked at by my mum all the time. Weird choice of voice actor/accent

The game is fantastic though - well worth getting

Agreed. I got it in my local Argos for £30 at launch but I figured it was a miss price. Fantastic game, probably the best on the switch at the moment as long as you enjoy RPGs. Im 200 hours in at the moment which is the most ive put into a single game by a considerable amount and im still not bored of it. Will probably buy the expansion/DLC content too.

I guess I wasn't paying that much attention in January because I already had it, but it looks like it was available for literally just that one day, 27th January, and then back up again, so maybe another missprice? Still don't think it's a fair comparison if not many people were able to get it and this is now a permanent price reduction.

Haven't actually had chance to play it yet - thought I'd better finish X on the Wii U first - but am really looking forward to it.

Another vote for this game, great soundtrack, the voicing not too bad - Nia is great, and awesome visuals (even if the res is sub-par even for the switch). You'll end up putting in more hours than Odyssey or Zelda.

I chose to turn off all battle and background dialogue in the audio settings menu. Then you only have voice acting on the cut scenes and can choose between English and Japanese for those, i alternate depending on my mood. This also allows you to enjoy the amazing soundtrack much more too.

I am not sure exactly where you are in the story, but i made the mistake of trying to do sidequests around torigoth using only Rex. They were my level but the the level indicators assume you have a full party. Don't go wandering around without a full party. Leave side quests and exploring until you have the personnel.

If you are still struggling then re-visit your battle tactics.. have you been paying attention to the tutorials and using the level 1,2,3 element chains correctly? Maybe try some youtube tutorials? It's an unusual battle system but once you get the hang of it, it just 'clicks into place'.
