Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (New 3DS or New 3DSXL) for £29.95 @ TheGameCollection

Found 4th Feb 2015
Release Date: 3rd April 2015

Rerelease of the Wii RPG that ended up being pretty rare. To reiterate this game will only work on the New 3DS's that release on February 13th.

Don't see it being much cheaper than this at launch.

Tempted, wondering if there's a limited edition in the wings.

Will only work on the new 3ds? **** you Nintendo, you money grabbing wallet bleeding ***holes

The game wouldn't run on the current 3ds, how's it any different from the DS to 3ds model change?

Exactly. Nintendo fanboy try to damage control, but this is a successor to the 3ds no matter which way you try to spin it.

I honestly am not convinced many people will move to it though and it wouldn't be unfair to call me a fanboy. I'm also sensible with money and I've not upgraded yet. Not for one game and better camera controls in majoras mask...
Still, not a bad price, so still heated while adding to discussion

Remember buying this (wii version) game from Argos, when they were selling it for penutes.

It's either New 3DS gets it or no one does, the original can't run the game so seems brilliant to me.

Mehhh, if you are going to put a 100 hours plus into one of the best rpgs if last generation, I think I'd prefer to play it on a big screen. That said, good price

Quick someone get Fanpages in here.

One of the best JRPGs ever, makes me glad to own a New 3DS XL and I'm hoping more great Wii games get ported to it. I would love to see Metroid Prime Trilogy or Skyward Sword get reworked for the N3DS. And I've played massive RPGs on my DS before, I played FF 3 and 4 as well as The World Ends with You and loads of others. In my opinion long RPGs on a handheld are a great match.

Ideally played on Dolphin.

No need to call me that really was there. Obviously not keep the same console forever, that would be stupid, but make something new rather than a 3rd version of an already done idea. I would love to play Xenoblade again but I only just bought a 3ds xl a few months ago, I think I and many others have a right to be aggrieved that what is basically just a slightly upgraded console now outdates the current one for games going forward.

funny thing is this game looks like crap. other games on the older 3ds look more detailed and they said the reason it only works on new 3ds is it needed more power... so BS in other words, they just locked it to new 3ds to tempt people to change, yer better off getting the old wii version.

that was a complete system overhall, this is the same system just slightly faster, like the dsi was to the ds. at least with them it was only crappy games from the download store you were missing out on. not proper retail games. having said that this game looks like **** compared to the wii version and even existing 3ds games. they probably just put a software lock in on purpose.

I wonder what will come up when you put it in a 3ds! "Coming to a new 3ds we know you don't have!"

anyone notice that it's availability date is 3rd April - good friday. Do Royal Mail deliver on that day?

Raiku

Ideally played on Dolphin.

What do the gfx look like upscaled to 1080?

Don't bother. Dolphin - while good - is never as good as good as playing a game as intended, running on the original console. Besides - and look it up if you like, the difference (graphically) between Dolphin and Wii for this particular game is near enough indistinguishable. As for the deal itself...hot! I hope with this 'remaster' more people get to play what is a near flawless jrpg.

Playing the game at 640*480 stretched to 16:9* is not the best way to enjoy an open world game (speaking of which I'm skeptical about 400*240 too).

Likewise playing at too high a resolution only reveals how low resolution some of the textures and models are but I think people can make up their own mind rather than have unnecessary views imposed.

*-Anamorphic widescreen is how the Wii outputs 16:9 resulting in lots of jaggles and playing Xenoblade in 4:3 results in some of the 640*480 resolution being wasted in drawing black bars because the game is 16:9 only.

Not bothering with the new 3DS, which is a shame, as I really wanted to play this again. Maybe in a few years when cex is selling them for £30

I would get this game if they made a special edition version tho

Did I really just read the Dolphin doesn't look any better than playing on a Wii? Wow.

It looks massively better. It's only the textures that are unchanged, but all the geometry (including characters) look great. Btw, it doesn't just take a 480p image and rescale to 1080.

Even if it wasn't better, it's worth using Dolphin just to avoid the annoying disk load noise every time you open a chest after a battle :-) Oh, and you can patch it to run at 30fps instead of the hideous PAL'tastic 25fps.

Great game, just don't get bogged down with sidequests if you are playing this for the first time.

It's more than a slight upgrade. As someone that's had one for a month the biggest difference isn't the faster clock on the CPU, the console having more memory, the extra shoulder buttons or the C-Pad. It's the Super Stable 3D. It makes a HUUUUUGE difference and is worth every penny.

Yup, I'm the same with my old metallic red 3DS. Going back to it is a real step backwards. It also helps that they seem to have changed the panel manufacturer (I say seem to have because I haven't seen a proper Teardown of it yet, I'm surprised the iFixit guys haven't taken one apart yet) because the display has more vibrant colours and is clearer and sharper. The sound quality has also improved.

Think it's time for a 3DS with a higher resolution screen and games to be fair

You can do that on the wii u tho can't you. Mine upscales my ahem, backup game to 1080p, which runs from HDD so loading is speedy ,too. Trying to understand the advantage of dolphin over playing via vwii if there is??

Dolphin uses some form of magic so everything that is drawn is at the resolution chosen, what I was referring to as geometry. However, the textures stay the same so they look just as poor as they do on the Wii. But the other geometry is really sharp, eg characters, grass, tress, etc. In fact, I think I have it running at 2160 internal resolution and then downsampled to 1080.

If you are playing on a TV, the TV is just upscaling the original image to 1080p - which is completely different to what Dolphin is doing - textures aside.

I have my Wii connected to a 32" CRT and my PC in the same room and there is no comparison. Dolphin makes it look like a modern game, whereas the Wii made it look old even when it was released.
